Insanity: My two month journey
Everyday for 2 months I pushed play and I dug deep. I failed many times. My arms gave out doing the push ups and I fell on my face a few times. I was tempted to eat many foods that would've screwed with my success. But I kept pushing play and I kept the will to resist temptation. I was determined to finish Insanity with a vengeance. And it turns out, I actually did it. It feels amazing and it's one of many accomplishments I'll keep under my imaginary belt of amazing accomplishments.
Along the way, I've actually learned quite a lot. Fitness has really grown on me. The feeling I get after finishing a Max Interval Circuit workout, or any workout out, is amazing. It's really an indescribable feeling, but I can't help but notice that my mood and just my overall being just feels really awesome after a workout. In addition, I think I've learned to never underestimate myself. If anyone knows me personally, I'm actually quite critical of myself when it comes to performing or playing music. This habit kind of bled into other facets of my life. There were many times throughout the 2 months were I felt like I couldn't push myself or do anymore, but you know I actually was able to do 1 or 2 or 10 more. It's a mental block these workouts and what it helped me to do was to slowly ease into the idea that I can actually continually push the envelope. As cliche and obvious as it is to some people to believe in their selves, it really wasn't obvious to me. But honestly Insanity helped me to stop underestimating myself. Not to mention I getting into UC San Diego also helped as well. Anyway, I digress.
So my plans after Insanity. Well, I've lost about 5 pounds or so which isn't much, but the most noticeable thing I've gained is that my biceps are a lot bigger and my triceps as well. My quads feel more defined too. Although I look a bit slimmed down, the thing is a lot of my body still has some fat around, especially around my core area. What I plan to do is a P90x and Insanity hybrid for 3 months to see if I can get rid of excess baggage and to gain more upper body strength. So here's to another 3 months and to a long life journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Shaun T's Insanity
First off I know that I post a lot of stuff regarding jazz and just music in general since music is a big part of my life being a musician and all. But music has sort of taken a backseat and I don't mean it in a way that I completely phased it out of my life. It will always be there for me and I take great comfort in knowing that I won't be in that stereotype of an attention whoring, pretentious, scarf-wearing, condescending, douche know-it-all musician (Seriously why do musicians always wear some sort of scarf? More on the music scene in Los Angeles and why musicians are attention whoring, pretentious, scarf-wearing, condescending douche know-it-alls in a future post or something).
Interestingly enough, fitness has sort of started to become more enjoyable to me. I know I'm not a fitblr or whatever, but I just thought I'd start posting my workouts more often just to remind me of my progress. It'll be nice to look back on. But yeah I apologize if no one wants to read this. Feel free to unfollow me if it gets kind of annoying.
Tomorrow I'll post a sort of reflection talking about my experience these past 60 days or so with Insanity, the workout program developed by Shaun T. As sort of an unofficial first entry, I just wanted to say how much ass I kicked during today's Max Interval Plyo workout.
So far this was the most intense Max Plyo workout I have had and I now understand why some people think it's harder than Max Interval Circuit. My arms were just on fire after I was done and I did all the 32 push ups and 32 floor sprints in all 3 intervals. Even more impressive was the fact that I kept great form and did not take a single unscheduled break, except for the a few of the power push ups. I just had to take a few quick breaths for those.
Anyway, I'm saying way too much. Tomorrow is the final day and I'm just really looking forward to talking about my experience and everything I've learned during the 60 days. I'll also mention some of my future plans after the program is done.

I honestly didn't want to watch it because of my burning hatred for Guitar Center, but this kit is the bees knees. I've been looking for a Ludwig alternative to the Yamaha Manu Katche. What better incentive to buy a kit than to know that Questlove himself developed the kit with Ludwig.

Thank you for your music Dave Brubeck. Rest in peace.
