Very sad news that Arnold Palmer passed away today at the age of 87. One of the greatest golfers of all time. Here’s the cover of “Easy Golf With Your Pro" a super cool instructional LP with a gatefold sleeve featuring instructions from The King!

Turn cremated remains into a vinyl record

Happy 75th Birthday to one of the world’s true musical geniuses, Frank Zappa!!
December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993
For years, Frank included the following disclaimer on his LPs:
WARNING GUARANTEE:
This album contains material which a truly free society would neither fear nor suppress.
In some socially retarded areas, religious fanatics and ultra-conservative political organizations violate your First Amendment Rights by attempting to censor rock & roll albums. We feel that this is un-Constitutional and un-American.
As an alternative to these government-supported programs (designed to keep you docile and ignorant), Barking Pumpkin is pleased to provide stimulating digital audio entertainment for those of you who have outgrown the ordinary.
The language and concepts herein are GUARANTEED NOT TO CAUSE ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE PLACE WHERE THE GUY WITH THE HORNS AND POINTED STICK CONDUCTS HIS BUSINESS.
This guarantee is as real as the threats of the video fundamentalists who use attacks on rock music in their attempt to transform America into a nation of check-mailing nincompoops (in the name of Jesus Christ). If there is a hell, its fires await for them, not us.
Weird Al posted this photo of himself pulling vinyl (Free Live!) as a #TBT today on his Instagram. This is inside the Main Control Room studio at KCPR radio on the campus of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
I spent countless hours in this same studio, pulling records from these same stacks (and most definitely played this very record on my weekly Saturday night show featuring live album tracks) during my years at Cal Poly. Still the best “job” I ever had!

If only this were a real product... ::: sigh :::
A day late but RIP Yvonne Craig who passed away yesterday at the age or 78.
This 1958 album cover features Craig many years before she donned the cowl and cape of Batgirl, and comes to me via the ever watchful eye of my former right-hand-in-vinyl-crimes Kathy Jones. Thanks Kathy!
Happy 70th Birthday (yes, you read that right) to Debby Harry!!!!
Soon to be rising from the dead, because it will be IMPOSSIBLE for Christopher Lee to rest in peace!

Greenbeans Anybody?
Happy 100th birthday to Orson Welles!!!
Yes, it’s the ELP Laser Turntable!! Play your records without anything ever touching the vinyl!
A steal at $15,000...
May the fourth be with you!
Happy Earth Day!!

Oh no!!!!
A sad, but fond farewell to Leonard Nimoy, who departed this world to boldly go where no man — well, actually, every person ever — has gone before.
March 26, 1931 to February 27, 2015
Were I to every win the lottery, THIS is what I would buy. Apparently, this is Frank Sinatra's personal jukebox, custom made by Seeburg in 1948, and capable of playing (gasp!) 200 78 RPM records. That may not seem like a lot by today's standards, but 67 years ago this was an unthinkable amount of music.
The unit is currently up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of $200,000. What so high? The storage boxes you see on the left and right have all the discs indexed... in Sinatra's own handwriting. Wow!!
Happy Birthday to the phonograph!! Thomas Edison was awarded his patent on February 19, 1878 for the invention which he called a "phonograph." (Ooooo! Ahhhh!) No, at that time it did not play vinyl discs, but it did record and playback audio to cylindrical tubes. And the rest, is Vintage Vinyl history!
Had Kanye West been around at that time he most likely would have stormed the U.S. Patent Office demanding that Edison give his patent to Dr. Dre who, of course, is a true inventor having created (well, promoted) the world's most bass heavy headphones.
Hurrah, Thomas A.!!
