-# Storyline.
• Raikyu, or better known as his stage name, Phantom, was born into a strict family in Hearthome City. His family always followed by the rules, thus became controlling over how Raikyu grew up. Eventually, he grew bored of it all, from having to stick to watch pokemon battles because his parents wouldn't allow anything else to being taught how to be more of a man, rather than a kid. However Raikyu was always drawn to pokemon contests, even when he was much younger, he wanted to become a coordinator.
Eventually, his parents decided to give him his first starter at the age of 7, not deeming the starters fit for their 'masculine' son, a Riolu. Rare, loyal and can evolve into a strong Lucario. Unbeknownst to his parents, the Riolu shared it's dreams with it's trainer, wanting to perform in contests.
At the age of 12, Raikyu eventually ran away to pursue his dream, rather than being forced to go along with his Family's controlling wishes. Rising up the ranks slowly and steadily.
Before he ran away though, he was always a big fan of Lance(Going with my lore headcanon of him being champion at 16, however Raikyu and him met when Raikyu was already 19 and Lance was 23.), admiring the Champion's strength in more ways than one.
Fast forward to when Raikyu finally became one of Sinnoh's best coordinators, he was invited by Cynthia to join her for a visit in Johto, and that's where Raikyu and Lance finally met f2f.

- I kept Raikyu's backstory the way it was, however with how he and Lance met is more different than before. Raikyu travelled to Johto when he was around 18, wanting to get a quick break before he went out to go back to contests(Cynthia's words, she didn't want him to try and overwork himself). There, he met Lance just around Blackthorn City when he was bonding with his Lucario, he was infatuated with Lance.. which is given since he was the guy who he admired. However it kinda goes.. South? Prior to Lance finding about his love for Raikyu a year later, Lance thought he was straight, and didn't exactly acknowledge Raikyu's advancements, yet he just played along because Raikyu was Cynthia's brother.
- Unfortunately, Raikyu does find out that Lance doesn't actually like him and just wants to be polite out of courtesy for his older sister, which of course breaks Raikyu's heart into pieces, thus ending his Johto vacation earlier than what Cynthia suggested.
- Lance forgets most of that. He does however remember Raikyu as Sinnoh's best coordinator and just watches some of his performances, which started to get him questioning about his preferences. However, Damage kinda done, Raikyu HATES his guts. Lance visited Sinnoh to discuss an important business between the Kanto-Johto and Sinnoh relationships. He tries to reach out to Raikyu, and Rai wants absolutely NOTHING with him.
- Lance is now fully into Rai, Rai starts to slowly come back to his feelings... however Lance fumbles again(Probably from how he values his training, status and public image more and for more on Rai's safety)
- The way they got resolved was when Cynthia lwk had to drag Rai with her to johto for a vacation–Rai won't have petty fights with Lance because she's present, and Lance will be able to make up for the amount of emotional turmoil he put her brother too. The vacation lasts 5 months, while they aren't together until Unova,(Where Cynthia drags the both of them with her for a vacation) they are much better companions/friends compared to the first and second meeting. (Rai thought he was infatuated but he was just inlove with Lance and he was in denial until Lance screwed up)
Someone said something about Valerie, Lance, and modeling, and I think it would have been a negative experience for him, but I'm always down to put Lance in Outfits. He gets to take the boots home
Lance: Cockiness is so attractive to me in a way and it’s so irritating. But the kind of expression and body language that comes with it. The self-satisfied attitude. The smug comments. The eye rolling. The smirking. The “come and get me” hand gestures during a fight. Eyebrow raising with an air of superiority. It’s just like, fuck you, I’m annoyed right now. But oh my God, I am also so very, very attracted right now.
Lance's cape is a symbol of sorts in his family, something given/made or passed down by traditional. His cape is very, very important to him. It's a symbol of strength and respect.
When he gives someone that cape, even just lets them borrow it temporarily, he's inherently saying "I trust you and see you as my family." It is NOT a light thing– both metaphorically and literally, his cape is heavy– so it's best someone cherishes that cape for as long as he lets that borrower have it.
...so imagine Silver's reaction when Dad!Lance removes his cape and puts it on Silver without a second thought...

Dragon pillow | Lance x Reader
Lance is a stubborn man. A stubborn, stubborn man. Sometimes too stubborn for his own good. He could be lying on his damn deathbed and still be running the league and solving every problem. Which unfortunately tends to put you in a… difficult situation. He loves you so much, and he truly would do anything for you: but even you struggle to get him to rest. No matter how sick or worn down he is, Lance will stand his ground as long as possible.
“Lance, I can hear your muscles screaming from inside the house!” Your voice cut through his training thoughts, a slight twinge of irritation in your voice scratched at his ears.
Looking over his shoulder, he smiled at you, almost trying to mask the aching feeling he was having. “I appreciate your concern love, but I'm alright, I promise you.”
“Really?” Crossing your arms with a raised eyebrow you continued, not believing a word he just said. “You’re slouched dear. It looks like someone put a crane hook in your back and is trying to lift you up.”
“I’m not leaning!?” He almost sounded offended as he answered, turning on his heel to look at you only to clutch his gut and lean even further forward, his other hand on his knee so he doesn’t actually fall over.
“Now you are.” Already standing by his side, you hook your arm around him in order to act as support, his Dragonite no longer bullying a tree, is stud by his side with you. “I love you, but please Lance, you need to rest! You aren't well, I know, your pokemon knows it, and you know it.”
Lance shook his head, making an attempt to stand up straight, placing his hand on your shoulder to do so. “I’ve got it, I’m alright it's just some indigestion.”
“I will drag you into bed by your cloak and have Dragonite sit on your damn legs if that's what it will take to get you to rest.” Lance’s Dragonite grunted in agreement with you, mimicking the current stare of determination you are giving him.
And as hard as he tried, deep down Lance knew you were right, his body was screaming at him to stop. Everything within him ached, his gut churned in discomfort, his head was rushing and the bullets he was sweating certainly weren't helping his case. “Alright, alright… I’ll take a break.”
“Good! Come on!” With a new spring in your step, happy in your victory that your beloved is actually on his way to get some rest. Seeing your smile as you carefully took his hand helping him back into the house… Now it really was impossible for him to deny you.
It was rare for Lance to let you take care of him. To him, you are his everything and he wants to take care of you, to keep you safe. So when he does let you, it's an opportunity you won’t pass up. Besides, seeing him in comfy clothes, curled up in bed relaxed is a sight too adorable to ignore.
“You stay right there and I will make you some soup and hot chocolate. There's ibuprofen in the draw, take two. I’ll know if you don’t.” Your voice stern as you point from the draw to him, turning towards his Dragonite who was sitting on the floor by the bed eating an oran berry Lance gave him. “Watch him.”
“Hold on love.” A slight croak crossed Lance’s voice causing you to contort with worry, making you want to help him even more. But then he reached out to you, “Join me, I'd prefer to have you here with me.”
“Lance…”
“Please? I can make myself something when I wake up. I may want something to ease the aching, but I need you with me.” He was dead serious, arm still outstretched awaiting you. His Dragonite makes a chirping sound to encourage you to stay.
“You are impossible sometimes.” You give in, taking his hand as he almost yanks you into his side, laying back with you, one arm around your back the other holding your hand keeping you secure to his chest.
A long, deep sigh escaped his lips as he closed his eyes, feeling your hand run along his arm and chest. His Dragonites head sank part of the bed as he tried to get in on the cuddles. “I already feel better. My love, your embrace is the best medicine I could ask for.”
“Rest now darling, I'll make something for you when you wake up.” Running your fingers along his jaw, you felt his arm tighten on your back as he took the hand on his face and pressed a long, loving kiss on your knuckles.
“I love you… Promise you’ll still be here? I’ll drag you back here if you get up just like you said.” Lance teased, nodding to the empty and playful threat you’d made earlier on.
Gurl, I'm on my period and need Lance temper/angry headcanons. I love how this man is NOT nice- he's KIND. And that kindness comes with him going apeshit when needed. People are wrongfully calling him a bleeding heart and just a "nice guy" no sis, he's a king with a righteous temper.
IKR, he is a nice guy but he is also someone with fiery temper! He can be so sweet and kind, but he will kick ass and put someone in there place. His hair don't look like that for nothing.

Lance | Anger Headcannons
Let's get one thing out of the way first. Lance has a temper, and it's a hot temper. HOWEVER it does take a lot to get him to fully snap, he’s in control of his emotions, but he is a passionate man. Getting him to snap isn’t easy but when he does, he does.
His battle anger is not actually anger. Its more intense focus. He seems frustrated or annoyed but its just how he acts in battle to give off a more commanding presence. You'll know he's fine if he smiles when yelling a command or he moves his cloak in a dramatic fashion (we've seen the Gen 4/let's go sprites we know he got some drama in him)
Lance's ACTUALL temper comes out a little different.
His anger comes out in one of two ways: 1) Silent brooding stare. This is his most common form of frustration - usually towards someone else's attitude, something going wrong for him, or listening to someone talk about team rocket for the thousandth time. He’s annoyed but still in control of himself.
2) Pure unadulterated rage. This is rare for him. Lance only loses control of himself under VERY specific situations. Someone directly harms a pokemon in front of him, someone harms someone close to him. Either of those and he will go off. Whether it's physical violence or a pokemon battle, you will know he’s lost it.
When he’s bad, constantly balled up fists, poor man has nail imprints in his pams from how hard he clenches his fists. His face is the biggest tell. He won’t go red in the face (His hair does that already) But his eyes give it all away. Dark and focused, almost vacant to anything else around him other than his target.
He LOCKS ON
We all saw how he handles team rocket, same stare, that pure focus and commanding presence is the exact same as when he loses it fully.
Now let me make this clear, he talks a lot and he is honest. He will say exactly what he means but he will try and be polite and not offend on purpose. Unless he's frustrated:
Lance will speak A LOT less when upset but when he does, he will make whoever his anger is target at, feel as small as a Tynamo. He will never do this to someone he cares for however. He will simply leave the room and take his frustrations out on a random tree before coming back.
Whilst he is passionate he will never hurt someone he truly cares for, it would go against everything he's worked to protect.
Although he is incredibly easy to calm down. Again i must specify he IS IN CONTROL he doesn’t need anger management therapy for problems of acting out, no his is a calm man with a strong moral compass so when he defends something or someone he will go to hell and back.
To get him to calm down, if he is brooding, just take him away from the situation and talk to him about something he likes, usually enough to calm him down. If he’s locked in however, that is leave him alone and let him pace around. Remove him from whatevers getting him ready to punch someone and just let his pokemon calm him down.
If you know Steven Universe, how ruby paces around when upset. Same thing just minus the speaking, man has an inner monologue with himself.
Oh and he holds Grudges for life. He can forgive, but he will never forget.
Looking Through The Champion's Appearances in the Anime and Gosh I Forgot How Different They Looked Compared to Now
(Yes I'm counting Wallace, he was a Champion too even if it was for like one game! Plus I love Wallace. I love Steven and Lance too.... I love a lot of Pokémon characters okay!)
To be fair I barely remember the older designs because they showed up for like... 1 ep or 2 at most I think. They definitely made the Champions in the older seasons feel more mysterious and feel like the final boss!... That we only got to so many years later, but better late than never!
I prefer how they all look now but I got such a soft spot for their old designs. That could just be my nostalgia talking though, I love the style of the anime in the early seasons and always will even if we have stronger animation for the anime now.
