Asterix spent a lot of time in bestie's household when they were children, and he was always fascinated by the fact that Obelix was already carving small figures out of pieces of wood since the age of five

for Obelix it was the natural course of things (his dad was a stonemason, but with a sense of beauty)

in fact, they are both the only sons in families, but there's a nuance, Ordralfabetix has several sisters, both older and younger ones, while Cetautomatix's mother died in labor (father didn't want to remarry)

his forge and house will need a good mistress in the future!

H E A D C A N O N S

Asterix and Obelix moms were friends, and their relationship was to some extent the opposite 👀 if Asterix in more intelligent, then in the case of mothers Obelix's mom was the mentor, since by age she could have been Praline's mother herself

Praline was from Armorican tribe, but she came from another village, was very young (this wasn't unusual in rural areas), and was a little afraid because she didn't really know anyone but her husband, and Gélatine, famous for her good nature (neighbours said she was big because kindness couldn't fit in her heart and came out) immediately befriended her

Asterix is Praline's firstborn: he was born a month prematurely... and besides, six months after the wedding feast

the neighbors were practicing their wits, figuring out who was in a hurry, the child or his dad 👁👄👁

unfortunately, Praline couldn't give birth to more children (several miscarriages, all this), but her only son definitely decided to take on the life force of all her potential sons, haha

as for Obelix, he's the third of Gélatine's children

also unfortunately, he's the only one who survived: the first of his older brothers died while hunting wild boar, falling into a ravine and breaking his neck, the second was robbed and killed on the way when he was returning from a trade festival

mother was sad, but the unexpected late pregnancy comforted her to some extent (btw the one of the reasons why she's so worried about Obelix is that she doesn't want to lose another child)

if everything was fine and measured with her labor (she was a well-experienced lady), then Praline fell off the porch unsuccessfully, was very afraid when realised that labor was starting, and screamed louder than a child

however, most of all she was upset by the fact that Gélatine couldn't help her with childbirth, as she promised

however-2, when she took her son and was surprised at how SMOL he was, she had no time to be upset about the absence of bestie

women helped her with advices, but Praline almost settled in Gélatine's house and 24/7 asked her about what to do and how to do

some more thoughts, because I love these dumbasses

in general, they are friends despite the constant quarrels, they've been bickering since they were young, and not just about rotten fish, the fact that Cetautomatix is two years younger didn't help, and when Ordralfabetix started dating a girl, which is hard to hide if you live in a village with fifty people, it became the reason for a bunch of evulz

+ additional headcanon is that Ordralfabetix is one of the few significant married characters who married not a girl from another tribe or settlement, but from the same village, and when it came to the wedding feast, absolutely no one was surprised, because all the neighbors had known EVERYTHING for a long time

his wife is a year older than him 👀

a headcanon about Assurancetourix's origin: he comes from a Namnetes village on the banks of Loire, and when he was about a month or two, their village was looted and burned by a neighboring tribe, I mean the Gauls were VERY good at fighting each other without the Romans, especially if they wanted to rob and rape somebody, or if there were any claims

since it was winter, bebe was lucky that the local bard survived (he was wounded with several arrows), got out of the pit, heard the baby crying in one of the houses, cried even louder, took him and dragged themselves away, wandered for a while and soon reached the lands of Armorican tribe (our beloved village!), where he was gladly received and stayed to live, because an old bard had recently died

that's this man 🤲

the story of the burned home was treated with full understanding, + raising a child in a village wasn't difficult for communities then, so little Assurancetourix grew up in the care of all the women, lol

he also doesn't know who exactly his parents were, because the bard preferred not to talk about it (once he told him that people in village knew his mom but not his dad, that was all), so he can probably be the son of a fisherman or the son of a chief, but this barely makes sense now

the main reason why Assurancetourix is tied up and gagged during any feast: he gets drunk VERY quickly, and when he gets drunk, he starts yelling songs (very often this is bawdy improvisations) with special force

while he eats and plays music, he's absolutely tolerable

was the main toastmaster and musician not that they had choice at ALL the weddings of ALL the neighbors

the youngest of the middle generation

by origin Assurancetourix isn't from this village/tribe (Namnete from Loire river), but how he got here is a topic for a separate post ☝️

I think I've come up with a name for madame Cetautomatix

I'll name her Mettrenfren or like that, considering headcanon about her origin (horsewoman), + after the tradition of giving characters silly names based on idioms (mettre un frein à is an idiom which means to tame/to put a brake on, nuff said but at the same time she DEFINITELY needs this herself)

well, headcanons:

arrived to the village like many other women, from another tribe (in archaic small communities, it wasn't uncommon to take a wife from another place)

comes from a noble family, where she learned weaving and embroidery skills

chose Agecanonix absolutely consciously, because she had no desire to have sex, get pregnant and give birth many times, but wanted to be in the position of the wife of an authoritative member of the community

loves him btw, he isn't an ideal but he literally carries her in his arms if it necessary

fourth wife in fact (she doesn't care)

is younger than couple of his grandchildren (STILL doesn't care)
