For my lunchtime, today, I decided to drive over to Triad Park to check out the Carolina Field of Honor. I probably should have known, but didn’t realize they would be having a memorial ceremony there and I did not arrive in time to capture parts of that event. However, I did get a couple of pictures of the area.
A veteran I met who served in Viet Nam.
While there, I also met a veteran who is also named “Jon” from Kernersville. I noticed his hat that indicated he had served in the Army in Viet Nam. Since my Dad had served in Viet Nam, I walked over to him and thanked him for his service. After talking with him, I learned that he too suffered from Agent Orange exposure and has been going through several treatments to help alleviate the pain he lives with. Jon served in Phang Rang, Phen Hep, and Tuy Hoa (I hope I got these names correct!)
I would like to thank all of our veterans, no matter what branch of service, for their selfless devotion to our country and for providing the freedom for us to enjoy all the many blessings we have. I wish the best for Jon in his continued treatments and hope the doctors are able to provide some relief.
Thank you, Jon, for taking the time to talk with me!
