Written for @fessst who won me in the 2021 Fandom Trumps Hate auction. Thanks for bidding on me!
RIP Ernie. A very good cat.
Bidding is now open for Fandom Trumps Hate 2021!
Don’t forget to read our bidding policies first, then head on over to the offerings blog and place your bids!
Remember: check the spreadsheet first to make sure you’re beating the current high bid. If two people bid the same amount, or someone bids less than the current high, the earlier bid wins. Bidding ends Friday at 8PM EST, and bids timestamped later than 8:00:05PM will not be counted.
So, this is happening now. I’m offering 1 fic, either Suits or Mindhunter, and here’s the link to my auction page:
Joni’s auction page
And of course, see the link further up this post to all of the auctions. Bidding ends on Friday.
FTH 2021 Browsing Week Begins!
You can head over to the 2021 Offerings Blog to start browsing auctions now!
What is browsing week?
This is a few days (not quite a whole week but close enough) when auction posts are up but bidding isn’t open yet. This way creators have a chance to look over their listings and let us know if anything needs to be fixed, and bidders have a chance to browse and make plans for which auctions they want to bid on.
As a creator, if you notice anything amiss (or have decided you need to change anything about your listing), please email us at fandomtrumpshate @ gmail.com to let us know. Be sure to double-check that we’ve tagged your fandoms, fanwork types, and ratings properly! We cannot change anything once bidding is open, so please look now.
Potential bidders: Please read over our stickied posts to check that you understand our bidding policies and to learn how to search for exactly the auctions you want using Dreamwidth’s tagging system!
Speaking of the tagging system, remember to check out our fan labor section! As usual, we have dozens of fan labor auctions from talented people offering their skills as beta readers, translators, expertise pickers, and tons more. If you plan on creating some fandom content over the next year (whether it’s for FTH or anything else), we recommend taking a look!
Bidding opens at 8am EST on Monday, February 22!
introducing the fandom COVID memorial
We are one week out from the beginning of browsing period. While everyone waits for that, we want to introduce you to another project we have put together.
This past year has been unimaginably difficult for many of us: as individuals, as members of families and communities, and as global citizens overwhelmed by the scale of suffering and loss. One of the things that has been hardest and cruelest about COVID is the fact that it has denied us the opportunity to gather together to grieve the people it has taken from us. There’s a reason so many FTH creators struggled to finish their fanworks this past year: we are all living under the cloud of mass tragedy, with very little outlet to express or even recognize it.
And so, as a small step toward filling that gap, we have put together a fandom COVID memorial. It’s a dreamwidth comm where anyone in fandom can post about their losses during the pandemic. There are three tags on the site – 1) in memoriam: a fandom friend 2) in memoriam: someone important to me and 3) I survived COVID but it was/is still awful – and we welcome any post that falls within the purview of one of these tags.
You do have to be a member to post – but membership is open and unmonitored, and setting up a DW account is free (and only takes a few minutes.) We have also created a small library of visual tokens of mourning, gathered from various cultures and traditions, which you can leave as a response to others’ postings if you want to mark that you have been there but don’t want to write words of your own.
This memorial site is not related to the auction in any direct, concrete way. There is no fundraising component and nothing about the site is tied to our annual calendar. But to us, the spirit behind it is the same. FTH is, at its root, about fans coming together to show care for one another, and for we are hopeful that this memorial site will offer people a space to do that for one another.
Visit the memorial here.
Thanks to an excellent suggestion, we are adding a fourth tag to the memorial site: “things that I have lost to quarantine.” Whether or not your losses of the last year are directly fandom-related, we hope you will feel welcome to share your grief and your stories.
FTH2021 signups, by the numbers
Signups for FTH2021 have been open for just over 24 hours now. We have some amazing numbers to share with you!
118 (!) creators have signed up, offering a total of 158 auctions.
Listed fandoms with the most signups so far: Sherlock Holmes (28) Teen Wolf (14) MCU (12) HP (11) Hockey (RPF) / The Witcher (10)
There have been 45 write-in fandoms thus far. The write-ins with the most signups (watch this space for the return of the “Unlisted Fandom Challenge”) are: Gundam Wing (5) Bridgerton / Carmen Sandiego (Netflix) / Sanders Sides (3) A Redtail’s Dream / Diamond no Ace / Ling Qi/Spiritpact / Rusty Quill / Stand Still Stay Silent / The Losers (2)
At present, the vast majority of creators are opting to select ‘bidder’s choice’ for their supported orgs. In cases where creators are making specific selections from the list, the three most often chosen are TLDEF, the Queer Detainee Empowerment Project, and the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights. The three least often selected are Manomet, Unsilence, and the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.
Sign ups will be open through Jan 31. Come play with us!
FTH2021 -all the details
The new year got off to a good start in the US thanks to the Georgia senatorial runoff election … and then things went to hell pretty damned fast. But Trump is on his way out, Biden is on his way in, and while things may be rocky for a while yet, we’re hopeful. Still, there is work to do, and we plan to be part of it. Fandom Trumps Hate is back for a fifth (holy smokes!) year, raising money for a host of excellent organizations that are resisting the Trump agenda and fighting to protect those whom it seeks to harm. We hope you’ll join us for another year of channeling fandom into activism.

LIST OF SUPPORTED NONPROFITS
We continue putting our support behind smaller organizations that are doing important progressive work. This year’s nonprofits include immigrant protection organizations, education organizations that are combating racism and antisemitism, an organization helping people get abortions, a community-based environmental group, organizations working for the integrity of the press and of US elections, and more.
The 2021 list of Supported organizations includes:
Center for Constitutional Rights Chicago Abortion Fund Higher Heights Leadership Fund Life After Hate Manomet National Network to End Domestic Violence Prison Policy Initiative Queer Detainee Empowerment Project SWOP (Sex Worker Outreach Project) Behind Bars Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund Unsilence Votebeat The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights Food Banks/Meal Programs including:
The Community Pantry
Pueblo Relief Fund (Covid relief including food services)
Feeding the Carolinas
Fairbanks Community Food Bank
OR your local nonprofit food bank or meal program.
You can find more info on the orgs here. Creators may also add in one other nonprofit of their choice. You can read more about it here.
FAQ
All of your basic questions answered (we hope)! If there’s something you’re curious about that’s not there, try checking the FAQ tag. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, please send us an email at fandomtrumpshate at gmail dot com. Do not send us a tumblr ask! We’ve also added a new page on bidding policies. And here’s info on our efforts to boost fan labor with the Regiment of Fan Laborers (ROFL).
We don’t know about you, but lately, we’ve had to drag, yank, bribe, or otherwise coerce ourselves to feel ready for the upcoming election year.
That is what we said one year ago when we were gearing up for FTH 2020. Holy shit, we had no idea what we were in for. We got 2020′d, you got 2020′d, all of the organizations we support probably got 2020′d. What an absolute dumpster fire, and unfortunately for all of us, it’s still burning at the moment.
But there are tiny slivers of hope. Soon, there will be (at least a few) grown-ups running the country again! Don’t let that fool you though; there is a truly daunting amount of cleanup that needs to happen to even begin repairing the damages caused by 45 and his ilk, and we hope you’re ready to join us in supporting some amazing organizations that will be tackling that cleanup.
So just in case you need a bonus reason to look forward to Inauguration Day:
Creator sign-ups for the FTH 2021 auction will go live on January 20th.
Last year, we passed an amazing milestone; over $100,000 USD (!!!) donated across a bunch of different organizations that are doing amazing and important work. In addition to contributing a whole lot of amazing new content for people to enjoy, you took skills you already have and channeled them into activism, and that’s amazing, especially amidst the absolute clusterfuck that was this past year.
Haul yourself out of your pit of despair (carefully), dust off your “to write” lists, rinse your brushes, rekindle your passion for your favorite fandoms. We hope to see you there. T-minus 16 days.
These Unquiet Spirits - Ch. 10
Hey, what do you know? I finally posted another chapter of this Suits fic. Things are getting weird. Marley has a new name. Marcus is not brother Marcus but a refuge from The Exorcist tv show.
Here is is for your reading entertainment.
Harvey’s shirt♥
Woaw. Just woaw.
This is a very good thing to look at.
AO3′s Software Used to Revamp WWOMB!
The venerable Wonderful World of Makebelieve was started in 1999, and its host squidge.org in 1994. Back in the day, this is where you found safe hosting for your porny slashfic.
I’ve just been alerted to the fact that they’ve updated from the old eFiction software to AO3′s and WWOMB has become the Squidgeworld Archive.
I’m really excited to see a second archive using AO3′s format: there used to be countless efiction archives and all kinds of different little spaces, not just a couple of centralized ones.

Title: Faeries Wear Suits (and you gotta believe me)

Summary: Dark Fae Harvey is tasked by King Oberon with keeping an eye on the human realm, where his attention is caught by Mike Ross. Mike is a fledgling lawyer in Manhattan minding his own business while trying to impress his boss, Travis Tanner. After Harvey accidentally reveals his fairy self to Mike, Oberon orders Harvey to bring Mike back to the Faerie Realm to face punishment – for Harvey’s transgressions. Harvey must be punished as well, and sly Oberon decides this will begin with him being forced to watch as Oberon spends one night with Mike. Will Harvey be able to stand by and watch Mike suffer at Oberon’s hands? Or will he go against his own nature for the sake of a mere human?
Thank you to my very patient bidder, gentle_impulsion. I hope you like it!
