That feeling you get when you don’t want to throw away the empty can because something tells you it’ll come in handy one day, but you don’t know why…….
Well. Here’s your answer.
Huh. I feel like I knew this.
Hard boiled vs steamed.
For all the avocado lovers out there! How to tell if an avocado is good or not. First remove button on end. Look and see the color. The darker it is the more ripe/rotten it is.

You’ve never seen Hunter x Hunter?
Looks pretty gay.
I watched the hunter x hunter that came out years ago, not the one that came out recently. Its the bees knees.
I have friends....see, we were in a war together 😭🙃
I guess this is why straight men don’t like to talk about their issues with friends because it always turns into a joke.

So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.
Stay woke
Is this true?
Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued “competing” charities, because (paraphrasing) their “message or branding was infringing.”
You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.
Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.
My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:
Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Cancer Research Institute
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

I'm browner than both of those frauds, but hey, makes sense.

This gave me nausea..
Yeah, this is totally the attitude of all men everywhere. This isn’t a cultural issue at all. It’s just men. All men. Everywhere. Yup.
I’d like to remind people that that UN Human Rights council you all got on Trump’s dick for leaving, is headed by someone from this country. So… These are the people you want the US to listen to about human rights, remember that.

THIS IS RACIST. SOMEHOW.
Those articles also blame millennial and gen z kids for not know but bitch who is running the curriculum in schools? Who is making the text books?
Always remember
Until I was in my 20s and in college my only exposure to WW2 was through Indiana Jones movies. There was a holocaust class in college that I took because I was tired of not being taught this. Also in middle school, I think 5th grade, the teacher skipped over the civil war so my dad asked the school for the history text book over the summer and taught me.
what utopia do you people live in where this shit isn’t brought up daily?
We watched the entire shindler’s list film in my auditorium on highschool
I was learning about WWI and II all through elementary and highschool.
I learned about the holocaust/ww2 in elementary, middle, AND high school. What kind of "school" did you go to?!?
Why are some of these black male Black Panther cast members bringing white shawties to the premiere?
It’s fucking embarrassing truly. You sharing this beautiful black success with a white woman. We gotta talk about this.
which ones brought Becky?? I haven’t seen many pics from the premier
Oohhh those guys, I mean I would expect them to bring their white wives. Idk about the guy on the right but Mike Colter stated on the breakfast club that he married his wife because she was there for him thru school and being poor. Like I’m all for black love but sometimes the one who loves you most may not be of your race. And if the person who loved me thru my worst times was non black… Imma take them to my black ass events lol
Lol dating is a choice and so he can say that she was with him when he was poor and blah blah but he chose to have her while he was poor. Lmao tf I’m poor but I’m not currently dating a white man so when I come up I’m like, “Brad was with me when I was poor.” Lmaooooo Y’all kill me with this.
Understood. Tbh, I PERSONALLY feel like a black person should never ever lay with or marry a white person so I feel you. But few share those feelings; and there’s this whole thing that ppl say about “You fall in love with whoever you fall in love with” … Idk how valid that is because idk if I even believe in love lol
Sooo what exactly them bringing white lady to premier got do with the movie? Is the movie all of sudden ruin or something? Matter of fact who cares
Spoken about interracial love like true white supremacists. Seriously, y'all start to sound exactly the same.
Let them he happy, you bitter racist fucks.
Honestly the alt right and the alt left are so in sync with each other that it’s scary.
The xenophobia of native Wakandans was supposed to be a BAD THING. As in something T’challa was trying to do away with.
“I PERSONALLY feel like a black person should never ever lay with or marry a white person so I feel you.“
White or black supremicist, really hard to tell.
Thought of this meme.

Muslim girls throughout America need to know about this.
Friendly reminder that buyer's remorse isn't rape.
Going to man's place at 2 am is nothing more than a booty call. Any woman with half a brain knows this by the time they're an adult.
Ok so aside from the representation shifting the data you’re focusing on one variable which is gender. A very important and easy to explain aspect for example is age because women with a degree actually earn more than men with a similar degree between graduation and the age of 30 where it flips. May I ask what do most career orientated women think about at the ages of 28-32? That’s right, Kids. This means you effectively lose a few years of progress if they chose to have kids or a kid and diminished wages if the woman ever returns to work which a large percentage do not. Essentially the “gender wage gap” is a result of personal choice and personality not inherent bias.
The data for average wages for men/women in a given field don’t vary with representation, since it’s a comparison of the average men’s pay vs. the average women’s pay.
Moreover, I see that you don’t have any statistic about whether and when worker women take maternity leave or become stay-at-home mothers; you’re just assuming that most women will “naturally” have kids, leave their jobs, and/or lose efficiency at work in favor of taking care of the house and children. Which is exactly what many employers do: they assume the same thing, and therefore prefer to skip women when it comes to raises/promotions.
If a woman A takes a leave period for maternity, and another worker B takes a leave for any other reason, A will get, on average, significantly less pay than B (mostly due to managers “skipping” raises for A while giving them to B). This even if A and B come back to work at full efficiency and neither of them is a stay-at-home parent.
The same goes for promotions.
The same goes for getting hired in a new job.
In fact, pregnancy isn’t even necessary for triggering this bias. If a boss assumes that a woman is going to have kids, regardless of whether that woman wants to be a stay-at-home mother or instead focus fully on her career, the boss will tend to give her less raises/promotions. (Meanwhile, if a boss believes that a man wants to raise a family, said boss tends to give him more raises/promotions.)
Moreover, even IF we ignored all the above, as well as the various other bullshit (like the disproportionate amount of harassment that women in “male” jobfields face) that women have going against women… “Women’s choices” is a really lazy answer. Because it doesn’t explain why.
I think you’re not understanding statistics. A higher representation in a given field means a higher likelihood of promotions and raises for that group. For example if there are 25 blue balls and 75 red in a container and you picked one you are more likely to pick a red one because of the proportions. Also a large number of arguments around this topic rely heavily on arguments such as “they’re aren’t enough women in STEM”. If there were 5 women and 95 men on staff it is highly unlikely that a woman would receive a promotion and vice versa.
The figure is around 40% for single mothers and 20% of partnered ones and the reason a lot do not return to the workforce because it’s financially viable now. You can get more money from the state being a single mother than you can get on a lower end job. So no I did not assume I just didn’t want to give an inaccurate figure.
For a start the comparison is bad. Maternity leave grants you a year off work fully paid plus time before hand too. There is not a single other reason where you can get paid in full for a year being absent. You could break your back and be comatose for 5 years but be sacked after the first 6 months max with injury leave normally topping out around 12 weeks and having a minimum of 5 days. So yes it is very likely someone who has been off for a maximum of 12 weeks will get raises and opportunities for promotion compared to someone on maternity leave in the 40 weeks they’re still working.
That’s just business sense, not sure if it’s legal or not but I would assume if you’re handing out a raise you would prefer to give it to the person who is more likely to do overtime preparing for a child rather than the one who will be gone for a year, who you still have to pay in full and also pay for either a replacement or pay overtime from all your other staff.
It’s not lazy it’s the truth. Here have a more detailed answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54
I think you’re not understanding statistics. A higher representation in a given field means a higher likelihood of promotions and raises for that group.
Quick scenario:
There’s a workfield where 75% of workers are men, and the remaining 25% are women.
Workers can be “base” (1$) or “promoted” (4$)
20% of workers are “promoted”.
We get a sample of 1.000 workers.
What’s the average pay for the male workers?
And what’s the average pay for female workers?
So, let’s do math.
The sample is 1.000 workers.
Of those 1.000 workers, 750 (75%) are men; the remaining 250 (25%) are women.
We’re assuming that 20% of the 750 male workers are “promoted”, while the remaining 80% are “base”. So, we’ve got 150 promoted male workers and 600 base male workers.
The same goes for women: out of 250 female workers, 50 are promoted and 200 are base.
We’ve got 150 promoted male workers vs. just 50 female workers. Male workers are more. But we aren’t trying to compare how many male promoted workers vs. female promoted workers there are; we’re trying to compare the average pay of male workers vs. the average pay of female workers.
As I’ve said, we’ve got 600 base male workers with 1$ each, and 150 promoted male workers with 4$ each. This totals (600 x 1) + (150 x 4) = 600 + 600 = 1.200 $ for male workers.
1.200 $ (pay) / 600 (workers) = 1,6 $ for every male worker, on average.
Let’s move on to women. We’ve got 200 base female workers with 1$ each, and 50 promoted female workers with 4$ each. This totals (200 x 1) + (50 x 4) = 200 + 200 = 400 $ for female workers.
400 $ (pay) / 250 (workers) = 1,6 $ for every female worker, on average.
Oh, look at that: male and female workers have the same average pay in our scenario, despite the fact that the formers are three times the latters.
“But wait!”, I hear you say. “Since men are more, then that means that a HIGHER percentage of male workers are promoted, while a LOWER percentage of female workers are promoted!”.
Why? Remember - you said SPECIFICALLY that a group being more represented in a given workfields means that a bigger % of workers in that same group are promoted (while, within a less-represented group, a lower % of workers from that group are promoted). So, no bringing up irrelevant stuff like taking maternity leave etc. ONLY representation, and what is directly caused by an abundance/lack of representation.
Men in “female” workfields still have a higher average hourly pay than women. And that’s regardless of: race, ethnicity, education, age, location - and, as I pointed out: regardless of efficiency and of whether they’re stay-at-home parents or not. If what you said was true, explain why women don’t have an average higher pay than men, even after taking in account all of what I’ve listed.
The figure is around 40% for single mothers and 20% of partnered ones and the reason a lot do not return to the workforce because it’s financially viable now. You can get more money from the state being a single mother than you can get on a lower end job.
PFFFFFFFFT-
Sure. PROVE IT. And keep in mind - you’ve said that being a single mother and relying on the state is “financially viable”. So no single mothers who also work; you must bring up single mothers who do NOT work.
For a start the comparison is bad. Maternity leave grants you a year off work fully paid plus time before hand too.
Depends on the country. In the USA, for example, you get ZERO maternity leave.
I’m also cutting off your paragraph here, since how you blatantly ignored that a woman A who took a pregnancy leave is paid less and less likely to get hired/promoted compared to a worker B who took a leave for any other reason.
Even if A and B took the exact same amount of leave.
Even if A and B are both stay-at-home parents.
Even if neither A nor B are stay-at-home parents.
Even if A and B came back to work with the exact same efficiency.
And there’s that word again. “More likely”. You’re assuming - again - that a male worker will work overtime while a female one will instead leave the job. Without knowing who those workers are, or whether they’ll be stay-at home parents or work overtime. That’s exactly the problem I’m talking about.
It’s not lazy it’s the truth. Here have a more detailed answer
Again: he simply says that men are more willing to work harder and competitively, while women prefer to have a less stressful life; but he doesn’t explain why. In fact, his answer doesn’t even challenge the concept of “our society has entrenched social gender roles”.
You can’t do maths. You can’t split a group and then divide them that voids the entire point because promotions don’t work like that and you’ve misrepresented it by using a massive portion. The larger the portion you take the more likely it is to even out. If you promote 5 people out of a 1000 with that split you’re highly likely to pick 5 men compared to 5 women. 30% chance you’ll pick 5 men in a row vs like 3% of picking 5 women in a row.
Men generally occupy higher earning jobs and generally strive more than women for promotions etc and often ask for raises whereas women do not do this often.
You’re just ignoring everything I’m saying. on average 30% of women leave the workforce after having a child. Living off the state is financially viable when you have a child because the money you get skyrockets if you meet certain thresholds which you often do as a single parent that’s why 40% of single women don’t work did you just ignore the statistics?
In the USA you get a minimum of 12 weeks by federal law and many states extend that. In the rest of the developed world the period is a lot longer.
You’re trying to say it’s unfair that someone who chooses to take a year off work gets less opportunities around that time than someone who was forced not to work for a significantly shorter period of time by circumstance. You’re fucking stupid. If they took the same amount of leave and came back at the same level of efficacy there is no difference, aside from one being a choice and one not being a choice, also how can you work and be a stay at home parent? You cannot stay at home and also work.
It is statistically more likely, people are not machines and therefore you cannot say all men will take more overtime but the trend is that men generally do. What do you think stay at home parents are? I left it out on the first post because I thought it was just you getting your thoughts crossed but you cannot stay at home and go to work. It’s one or the other.
You ignored all the explanations on the psychological differences between men and women? And he does touch on that by referencing the study done in Scandinavia where gender equality is paramount in law and there are still massive differences in men and women in traditional male and female jobs. “Gender Roles” are a result of evolution just like in every other sexually dimorphic animal.
You can’t do maths. You can’t split a group and then divide them that voids the entire point because promotions don’t work like that…
Except that you weren’t talking about how promotions work.
I said that simply changing the male/female demographics of workers doesn’t change the average pay for male/female workers, nor the chance for them to get promoted. You answered, and I quote: “A higher representation in a given field means a higher likelihood of promotions and raises for that group“. I then provided a scenario that disproved what you said: women, despite being outnumbered 3-to-1 by men, had the same chance at becoming promoted (30% of workers got promoted; 30% of female workers got promoted; so 30% of male workers got promoted), and the same average pay (1,6 $) as men. And that doesn’t change, regardless of whether I change the demographics to 900 men/100 women, or to 100 men/900 women. So, evidently, just having a bigger representation in a field does NOT automatically equate “having a higher chance of getting a raise”.
…and you’ve misrepresented it by using a massive portion. The larger the portion you take the more likely it is to even out. If you promote 5 people out of a 1000 with that split you’re highly likely to pick 5 men compared to 5 women. 30% chance you’ll pick 5 men in a row vs like 3% of picking 5 women in a row.
Actually, assuming that the split is 750 men vs. 250 women, and I picked 5 people at random, the chances of getting 5 men are around 24%, while the chances of getting 5 women are less than 0,1%. However… the chances of getting 4 men and 1 women (which is the scenario that most closely resembles my “75% men/25% women” split) is roughly 40%.
And I could go on for more. Do you know what’s the chance of promoting 10 people and getting 10 men? 6%. Getting 9 men and 1 woman? 19%. 8 men and 2 women? 28%. Oh, look at that: the ratio of male-promoted-workers-vs.-female-promoted-workers tends to resemble the ratio of male-workers-vs.-female-workers. Do you wanna claim that, because male workers are 75% of all workers, then that means that, in the absence of other factors that might modify the proportions, male workers get more than 75% of promotions?
Men generally occupy higher earning jobs…
Time to dig up again that old post I did:
“Women choose less remunerative jobs. That’s why, as a whole, they’re paid less than men.”
It would be more appropriate to say that jobs that are dominated by women are considered less prestigious, and thus are paid less. Look at Russian doctors - they are as qualified as UK and USA doctors, but while the latter two are mostly male and are one of the most prestigious professions in their countries, the former is mostly made up by women and it’s one of the lowest-paid jobs in Russia. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Another example: nursing! A job dominated by women, not very prestigious. Then men started pourig in, and the wages began to raise. Oh, and a gender wage gap formed - in favor of men, of course. And it’s not the only example - the same thing happened in women-dominated fields such as administrative assistant, teacher, and babysitters. In fact, literally EVERY SINGLE workfield that became female-dominated in the USA lost prestige and wages. No, it’s not that women are attracted to lower-paying jobs - the study actually tested for that explanation, and they found it unsupported by the evidence.
When every choice women make is turned into the “wrong” one, you can’t blame women for making the “wrong” choice.
(By the way, the reverse phenomenon - jobs that become male-dominated and thus seen as “masculine” gain prestige and wages? Also true. Just look at computer programming. Or at film screenwriting and editing.)
Also, this thread here offers various other examples.
…and generally strive more than women for promotions etc…
That doesn’t counter the fact that, for example, women who had been pregnant are offered less promotions than workers who took the exact same amount of leave, and returned to work with the exact same efficiency and striving for promotions. Hell, women who never were pregnant but are believed that they eventually will are offered less promotions than male colleagues with the excact same efficiency, striving for promotions,
…and often ask for raises whereas women do not do this often.
Mostly because men who aggressively ask for raises can get it, while women who do the exact same get penalized.
Which ones - the statistics that don’t exist and that you haven’t linked to?
In the USA you get a minimum of 12 weeks by federal law and many states extend that. In the rest of the developed world the period is a lot longer.
Yeah, no. Under federal USA law, you get 0 paid weeks for maternal leave.
You’re trying to say it’s unfair that someone who chooses to take a year off work gets less opportunities around that time than someone who was forced not to work for a significantly shorter period of time by circumstance.
No, I’m saying that, if A takes a maternity leave and B takes an equally long leave for any other reason (including by B’s own choice), and they both come back to work with the same efficiency, on average A faces harsher penalties (in terms of missed raises/promotions/hiring chance) than B.
And funny how you, yet again, showed your bias by assuming that B was forced to take a much shorter leave than A.
You’re fucking stupid. If they took the same amount of leave and came back at the same level of efficacy there is no difference, aside from one being a choice and one not being a choice…
Nope - you just assumed that B didn’t took their own leave by choice.
…also how can you work and be a stay at home parent? You cannot stay at home and also work.
You can, however, get a job that doesn’t consume much time and isn’t much stressful. Instead of, you know, concentrating fully on your career and aim for a full-time high-responsibility high-pay position.
The point is that, if A and B both return to work and aim for a low-stress low-pay position, A gets penalized. If A and B both return to work and aim for a high-stress high-pay position. A still gets penalized.
It is statistically more likely, people are not machines and therefore you cannot say all men will take more overtime but the trend is that men generally do.
And yet you’re assuming that men will do more overtime as a justification for giving more promotions to men without actually checking which ones of your workers takes more overtime and which one doesn’t.
You ignored all the explanations on the psychological differences between men and women? And he does touch on that by referencing the study done in Scandinavia where gender equality is paramount in law and there are still massive differences in men and women in traditional male and female jobs.
It’s almost as if gender roles are an entrenched social construct that cannot simply be dismantled by writing a line on a piece of paper…
“Gender Roles” are a result of evolution just like in every other sexually dimorphic animal.
Oh, so your answer was “gender roles exist primarily because of biology”. Alright then, answer the following questions:
What biological component, exactly, causes gender roles?
Different cultures have different of gender roles. But according to you, gender roles are primarily dictated by biology. Are you saying that different cultures have radically different biology?
Cultures (and gender roles) change over time - WAY faster than the usual times required forbiological evolution. Are you saying that the biology of gender roles evolves and mutates in mere decades, while the evolutionary process usually takes thousands if not millions of years?
Yes it does because of how workplaces are constructed. The majority group will have a higher average wage because of the higher likelihood of getting promotions and raises because you don’t mass promote and give raises on large numbers of individuals unless it’s previously agreed or government regulations come in.
Again you’re being dishonest. On an individual basis you are always less likely to pick someone of the minority group and altering situations and making technically correct but inaccurate calculations isn’t helping your case.
You do realise that post is using jobs that recently (and still do) have had massive labour shortages right? Meaning the wages would go up anyway. Also computer programming is gaining value because it’s making bucket loads of money at the moment and screenwriting/editing is getting money thrown at it left right and centre as movies are making more than ever and the competition from places like amazon and Netflix are hiking wages.
Show me an example of someone taking a year off of work an getting a promotion in the next year please.
No they won’t men are just more naturally inclined to push for wages.
Have an article I don’t have time to dig through the internet for the study atm: https://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2013/04/why-43-of-women-with-children-leave-their-jobs-and-how-to-get-them-back/275134/
Yup but you can get aid from the state instead. A lot of states have it so you have to be paid and pretty much every other modern country has it in law you must be paid.
Because B doesn’t exist. You’ve built a strawman because there is no other reason to be off work for such a long period of time that wouldn’t get you fired because the only other reason that could amount to that long off would be a hospital stay which generally is a lot shorter than 12 weeks or a lot longer.
I am not assuming I am going off statistical analysis whereas you are assuming women randomly get penalised of which the article I posted above disproves.
1. Easy. Survival instinct. Men and women do what they are naturally more adapt at, as every other animal on earth does.
2. Ok then what cultures have different gender roles? And I’m talking properly divergent from the norm like men look after children and women hunt etc and more than a couple of examples.
3. No they don’t change, it took what 2000 years for the catholic church to stop condemning gay people and that’s still not 100% true. When something in a culture changes it changes fast but it takes a long time for it to get that way. If that were true then. In this case mankind currently doesn’t have to follow biological instinct to survive but that’s relatively recent. Also you’re kind of twisting things here because biological evolution takes hundreds of thousands to millions of years for large organism and cultures are founded based on that but they don’t evolve in the same way as biology. As a culture humanity hasn’t really changed that much for the last 5,000 years.
