The Niagara Falls GO Station
This past weekend I unfortunately had to send my girlfriend back to Toronto after an amazing few days together in Buffalo. We found the nearest GO train which to my surprise was right across the border in Niagara Falls Ontario. Pro tip: if you have a Nexus Card (everyone in WNY and Southern Ontario should) you can cross the Whirlpool bridge with no wait at the border) which is a minute from the station.
For $22 Canadian she was able to hop on a train that dropped her off right at Union Station in Toronto. This train was PACKED. Of course the area surrounding it was exactly what you would imagine Niagara Falls to look like....empty.
Upon some further research it turns out this amazing find only lasts during summer months and holidays. This is really a shame as driving on the QEW and in Toronto traffic is awful. Throw in the cost of parking and all the sudden the costs of driving to Toronto quickly starts adding up. The closet train to grab now will be the Burlington line (still better than driving).
With no shortage of demand from what I could see it makes me wonder why we aren’t utilizing this train all year round in Niagara Falls. You can rest assured that if it does happen that desolate little pocket around the station will get redeveloped.
Now if that train could connect to Buffalo...
