Guardian Tutors Grade 10 Provincial Exam Prep Course
Provincial Exams
I have to say that I am almost glad I am not currently teaching in BC. Not only is there endless drama with the government with budget cuts, strikes, and court hearings, but to top it off the curriculum keeps changing. Standardized testing is one of the most complicated elements of schooling to properly integrate so that students have a positive and successful learning experience while giving educators a good idea about how well the program is working.
For many students, exams are a nightmare that is crammed for and then forgotten. For others, it is an opportunity to show off how much they learned. For teachers, it is another piece of the program that must be integrated into the course.
Over the past decade, provincial exams have changed multiple times in an effort to help students be well prepared for post-secondary, have a positive experience with exams, and to formally test their learning. This has resulted in a constantly shifting requirement to pass different classes. It used to be that only Grade 12 courses were examinable, then it moved to some Grade 10 and 11 courses, then it cut out some courses, and now it covers Math, English, Science, but only in select grades.
If this all sounds confusing, it is because it is. I can see why many students are struggling with all of these changes going on. It is my goal that students can find more support with this ever changing system and so Guardian Tutors will be offering exam prep courses throughout the school year.

Protecting Your Learning Success
Sarah has been struggling with math every year since she started school. Math is just not something she cares to do and her grades really show this. Jenn has a passion for math and it has been her goal to pursue a career in math. She has spent her spare time devoted to helping people grab hold of her passion for math and accomplish their goals. After Sarah has spent some time with Jenn, she still does not like math all that much, but she appreciates its value and necessity. She has even had positive and fun experiences with math. Sarah can really see the doors open for herself and her future thanks to Jenn's help. This and many stories like it are what we do at Guardian Tutors everyday. Our passion for helping students in our community is the big WHY for us. Protecting Your Learning Success!

Customer Satisfaction
I think I found out this week that I am not meant for customer service. I love dealing with customers, helping them out, finding what they need, and getting them excited about products. What I can't deal with is unreasonable, immature, rude, disrespectful customers. I can humble myself, apologize to the customer, and do my best to help them out, but at the end of the day I feel the service industry strips us of our dignity.
Why is the customer always right?
To me I think a company should value and stand by their employees before they give-in to their customers. I understand that customers are what makes a business successful, but it is the employees that make the business run in the first place.
As a business owner I trust in my tutors enough that if a conflict arose I would try to satisfy the customer, but ultimately I care more about providing a positive and supportive work environment for my employees. Once you have dealt with a bad customer, the employee still has deal with that customer again the next time they come back (if they ever do). How is that a positive work environment? I feel that customers should respect the hard work, humility, and training it takes to work in the service industry and be more patient, respectful, and appreciative. It only takes 1 unsatisfied customer out of 100 more than satisfied customers to ruin the career or at the very least work environment of an employee. Personally, I would rather lose business from one lousy customer than lose the respect of my valued employee.
Maybe it is just my mellow, light-hearted personality, but I want to have a fun, positive experience at work and with customers. I want to be able to crack a joke with a customer or have a tongue-in-cheek conversation with an employee without fear that a customer will take offense and become irate. Why are there so many puffed-up people out there who are so full of arrogance and pride? There is no reason to get angry, no reason to swear, and no reason to utter threats. A mature person would stay calm, talk respectfully, and work out a situation with class. Of course that is the expectation of the employee, but the customer can fly off the handle all he wants and in the end will be rewarded with some kind of deal or discount and the employee will be reprimanded.
If you do something wrong, you should always be quick to apologize, but if you didn't do something wrong, you should have the opportunity to plead your case without the universal acceptance that the customer is always right.
Sometime the customer is completely wrong, and sometimes they should be treated as such.

Do not let your life overwhelm you and bring you down. When all else fails, if you still have your health, you can start over, make it better, and live life to its fullest. Eat well, think well, and let your actions prove your thoughts and habits.
Good health comes from good choices.
Good jobs come from good effort.
Good friends come from good communication.
Good wealth comes from good decisions.
All of these are choices you need to make.
Start with this simple choice:
