jordan hayes was born to older parents along with his twin sister. they were hard working people who owned a nice size farm land in hagfield. there they led a family business of farming corn. jordan grew up learning the ins and out of farm life, he grew up working hard every day of his life.
he grew up to be more a reserved guy. he never really got himself into trouble and he didn’t really care to. when jordan and his twin sister were 15, their mother passed away after getting sick. he took this very hard and closed himself off even further than he already had. while his dad was hard on him most of his life, he was very close with his mom and her death changed a lot for him emotionally.
after graduating high school, jordan was ready to pack up and head to college in michigan where he’d be playing hockey when his dad started to struggle with the farm. he didn’t really see another option except to stay home and help him out.
a few years after he decided to stay home, he also made the decision to open a pizza place, late night slice. he wanted something of his own since he had given up the rest of his dreams. jordan doesn’t regret his choice to stay in his hometown, but sometimes he does wonder if he’d be a different person if he had left and went to college.

Was that Jordan? Inside of a jewelry shop? No, it couldn’t be. She’d been merely passing by when a casual glance to the side had her halting in her tracks. The first thing her eyes picked up was the tall frame of the male’s back—the build of a person she knew all too well—and a quick glimpse of his face was all the confirmation Viv needed. It was her brother. Curiosity being the only fuel she needed to step inside of the building and make her way toward him. “What the hell are you doin’ in here?” She asked once she was beside him. As soon as the question came out, her brown eyes drifted down to the array of the rings that were being showcased beneath the glass and immediately Vivian’s face lit up with surprise. “No way,” her lips spreading into a wider smile, “Jordan! Don’t tell me you’re doin’ what I think you’re doin’.”
Jordans head snapped up at the sound of his sisters voice. Fuck. He knew that he should have gone out of the town to look at this kind of thing. Everyone in this town was always in each other business, so he didn’t know why he thought for one second that he’d be an exception today. “I’m just looking, Viv.” He stated, looking back to the rings placed onto the counter. He wasn’t lying with what he said to her, but he also wasn’t telling the full truth. Jordan had every intention of walking out of the store today with a purchase in hand. “Do not go telling people about this though. This.. Just act like you never saw me here.”

Jordan had already been in the jewelry store for the past hour. He spent the first half an hour refusing the help of any employees, as he claimed he was just looking around. But once he realized he had no idea what he was even looking at, he knew that he was going to need some sort of help. “Could I see that one right there?” He asked the salesperson, pointing to the front row of rings behind the glass. Looking closely at them as they were set onto the counter in front of him, unaware that anyone else had come up beside him.
“Okay, I’m here. I better get a free pizza,” he says, sitting down in front of him, giving his a cousin a smile. But maybe he is serious about free pizza. Who’d ever refuse something for free, right? “I was thinking of hitting the gym later today if you wanted to come with.”
Jordan leaned back in his chair in the back office, looking at his cousin as he entered. “Between you and everyone else who has any kind of connection with me in this town, I’m going to go bankrupt.” He laughed, “But the gym sounds good. It’s been a while since I went, I was planning to get back there anyway. It's been hard to stick to a routine with everything going on lately.”
Sasha was happy to see Michaela bounce back off into the house with the widest little smile ever, but that didn’t change the fact that she was annoyed with Jordan doing this now. When she clearly wasn’t speaking to him. “Michaela appreciates it and so do I. Thank you, Jordan.” she wasn’t about to argue with him, she was tired of that song and dance. If it wasn’t clear enough at the party, she was going to make sure he was made aware of that now. “I gotta go back to my garden but… thank you again, Jordan.”
This was the first time Jordan felt like he didn’t know what to do when it came to Sasha. They had been through a lot of arguments, but they had also shared a lot of good memories together. From walking her to cheer practice in high school to getting lectured at 28 in the hallway of a mansion, the two of them had really been through it all. “Alright.. Well, thanks for letting me see her. I’ll let you get back to it.” He wasn’t sure how to ask her if she had really meant it when she said that she wanted him to away from her and Michaela so he did his best to dance around asking directly. “But I’ll see you around though, right?”
Heather moved closer to Jordan, her head lay on his chest as her eyes turned to the TV in front of her. She knew she should probably talk about everything, get it off her chest so that she wasn’t dealing with this all alone. It was just something she didn’t even know how to begin to talk about or process, how could she explain what she saw? Or how could she talk about her sister dying in her arms? It was just something she couldn’t even figure out in her mind yet let alone talk about openly. She was just happy that Jordan was here right now and that was enough for her. A smile lit up her face as she watched the screen and her favourite Disney movie came on. She tried her best to focus on the film as it played but it was evident to her that she really wasn’t ready to sit there for an hour, she shifted on the spot a few times, her head slowly turning to look up at him. She paused for a moment as she thought things through in her mind before deciding to go ahead anyway, her hand reaching up and gently pulling his face towards hers as she connected their lips.
Jordan would never admit it out loud but he had grown quite fond of the film playing on the screen. He had always fought her about it when she wanted to watch it but after the first few times of watching it, he actually started to pay attention and thought it was a cute movie. He was watching the screen intently when he felt Heathers hand pulling his face to hers. Letting their lips come together, he kept his arm wrapped around to her to keep her close to him. Almost letting himself start to move things further along when it occurred to him what they were doing and the timing of it all. He pulled his face away from her and looked down, feeling more worried about her than he already was. “Let’s just watch the movie, baby. It’s your favorite one.”
“Sorry, I…” She was at a loss for words, considering they mostly avoided each other these days. Not a lot of time was spent with him once he’d shut her out, actively; instead of allowing her to be there for him, which is very much what she’d wanted at the time. Now, she didn’t know what she wanted, other than a quick way out of this awkward situation. “I usually come about once a week, make sure the flowers stay fresh, clean it up.” She shrugged, hands rubbing together as dark eyes finally lifted to meet his. “She meant a lot to me, sorry if it’s weird. I was just going though.” Thumb hooked over her shoulder. “I can leave you to it.”
Jordan looked from her to the grave and then back to her. “Wait.” He started, feeling confused for a moment. He had no idea that this had been a frequent thing for Dom, he had figured bumping into her here was just her visiting a lost loved one of her own. “You are the one that takes care of her grave? I thought that was Viv doing that this whole time.” It made since in his mind since both the twins had done their part in making sure that their mothers love for flowers lived on through both of them. “I..” Feeling a sudden loss for words and guilt for the avoidance towards the other, Jordan breathed out loudly. “Well fuck, you don’t have to leave just because I’m here now.”
One thing Sasha would never get in the way of was her daughter’s own joy. When she moved into this home, she had allocated for other small animals, but not horses or anything even close to that size. So, she made a mental note that she would get stables installed in the back, but Michaela could go visit the horse anytime she would like until that was all said and done. “That’s fine..” she looked at her daughter who was looking over her shoulder at Sasha expectantly. “Say thank you to Uncle Jordan.” she informed her daughter, waiting for the two of them to finish interacting so she could put an end to this entire awkward interaction.
“You’re welcome, kid. You know that I got you for anything and everything.” He smiled at Michaela, meaning every single word of it. There were only a few people that he would do anything for in this town, but Sashas daughter had really made her way to the front of his list. Jordan gave the girl one last hug before standing back up and letting her get back to whatever she was doing inside of the house. “So..” He said awkwardly, looking back at Sasha now. “Tell me the truth, how do you feel about the horse?”
Heather picked up her dress and things from the bathroom floor, making sure to put them in the laundry basket in Jordan’s bedroom. Once in there she quickly dried herself before looking through his dresser for one of his tshirts that she usually slept in, pulling it out once she spotted it and slipping it on, pulling her out from underneath it too. She made sure to place the wet towel in the basket as well and then began to rummage through her bags to pull out her hair brush, the blonde quickly combed through and then moved her bags once finished to the corner of the room figuring that was a job she could do tomorrow. Right now she did not have the energy to start unpacking all of her things.
“I’m sure” she nodded with a smile as she climbed into the bed “If you’re hungry though I can wait here, I won’t start it until you’re back.” She looked over at him after she made herself comfortable in bed, setting her phone down on the desk beside her before looking back at him “but seriously I ate a whole bunch of those gummies at Envy and I don’t think I could eat anymore.”
“Right.. the gummies.” Jordan would have explained that those weren’t really food, but he figured that she had been through enough this night that he left the topic alone for now. Truth be told, he could have used a snack in that moment but he also was not big into the idea of leaving Heathers side at the moment. So, instead he just shook his head and climbed in beside her. Pulling her close to him as he wrapped his arm around her, lightly rubbing the side of her arm with his hand. Using his other hand to grab the remote from his side. Jordan knew that there were two moves he could make with this movie selection, he could put on what he really wanted to watch which would be some kind of sport movie that would bore Heather or he could put on something he knew was her favorite and pretend that he was just in the mood for it. A few minutes later, the title scene for Lady and the Tramp appeared on the screen.
Sasha had to be in the twilight zone right now. Not only was this man showing his complete ass to her at the party, but now he was in her yard with a horse… for Michaela. But, she wasn’t about to fight with him. She made her choice in the moment they shared back at Charlie’s mansion that she was done with the back and forth. “She’ll love it, I’m sure.” she pressed her lips together and nodded before pulling her phone out to send a text to Michaela’s iPad for her to come out. When she finally did, the small girl smiled from ear to ear and ran over to hug Jordan. “He has something to tell you, Mickey..” she told her daughter, folding her arms as she waited for him to speak.
Jordan watched her carefully, waiting for the shoe to drop and for him to get kicked out of her yard. But, when it didn’t come and she messaged for her daughter to come outside, his shoulders relaxed a little bit. A big smile grew on his face when the girl appeared at the door and came running out to them. Jordan returned the hug, squatting down to wrap one arm around her and squeeze her. “This big guy is all yours. I told you that I wouldn’t break my promise.” Still at her level as she spoke to her. He looked up at Sasha, “If it’s alright with your mom, of course. The horse can come stay at in the stables at my house if it’s needed or just for the weekend, I’m here to help.”
Lu let out a soft gasp when she found where Jordan was, and a part of her kept quiet as she took it all in. The clothes, the boxes. A small smile formed on her lips at the sight of a dress she could still vividly remember Mama Hayes wearing during the many times Lu had stayed over. “You need help?” Lu asked, her voice soft as she stood beside Jordan, a part of her realizing just how long the two had been best friends. She was on the precipice of everything in her life changing, but at least she knew this friendship would stay, no matter what. “Sour Breakpoint got signed,” Lu suddenly said as she turned to face her best friend, the smile starting to grow bigger. “You’re looking at the lead singer of a band who’s now part of a major record label,” she excitedly shared.
Setting more of the folded clothes into the box, he looked over his shoulder at Lunara behind him. “No, it’s fine.” He said simply, knowing that this was something that he had to do himself. As he set down one more item, he turned around and gave his full attention to her. Usually when they spoke, Jordan could go about his business because things were always so lighthearted, but this was news that he was not expecting to hear. “Lu!” He yelled, grabbing her and pulling her into a tight hug before letting her go. “That’s amazing! You’re gonna be rich and famous! We’re gonna be rich and famous!” He laughed, joking around with her as if he was going to raise to fame as her best friend.

“So, you ever gonna tell me what happened at the party?” Cutting straight to the point when she realized that they were the only two inside. She hadn’t been at the party, but the constant dinging of her phone and reading all the messages back—Viv knew something went down. But rather than asking in front of everyone, the brunette decided to at least wait until they were face to face to talk about it. It wouldn’t be as easy to blow her off that way. “For instance, what prompted you to call your girlfriend an attention seeker on a public form?”
Standing in the kitchen cutting up vegetables on the counter for an omelet, Jordan was throughly enjoying his day. He saw his twin sister come in out of the corner of his eye and only looked up at her for a brief second before going back to what he was doing. “Nope.” He shrugged, taking a bite of one of the pepper strips he was cutting up. But as she continued on, he sighed and set the knife down next to the food. Turning around and leaning his back against the countertop while he looked at her. “It’s not that big of a deal, Viv. I was just pissed off because I was having a bad night from.. It was just a bad night.”
It wasn’t that Heather wanted to lie to him she just didn’t know how to process how she was feeling right now, she didn’t know how to talk about watching her sister die in her arms. She didn’t want to put that kind of thing on him when he had been through enough himself too. She figured she might be able to open up more in the morning, once she’d slept on it and had time to finally accept what she had been through. Until then she just wanted to be with Jordan and act as though everything was normal. “I love you too” she smiled before kissing him back.
Heather let the water run down her body for a moment longer, checking her hands, arms mainly but also the rest of her body incase there was still some lingering blood. Once satisfied she turned off the running water and followed him out of the shower, wrapping herself up in the towel. “We should should get comfy clothes on and watch a movie in bed, I don’t care what kind of movie you can pick.” She seemed at him, she may have been in denial but acting as though everything was fine was how she was going to get through it.
Jordan watched her face as she spoke. He didn’t know how to deal with the situation they were in, so he figured it was best to follow whatever Heather said. As they began to exit the bathroom, he leaned down and scooped up the bags of hers that he had set down earlier. Leading them both into his room close by, he set down her bags on the bed and pulled out his own sweats from his dresser.
After changing into his clothes, Jordan pulled the covers down from his bed and set the bed up to be more comfortable for the two of them. “Are you sure you don’t want anything to eat or drink?” He asked her, moving to the other side of the room to grab the remote for the television. Turning it on and coming back towards the bed as he waited for her to comfortable.
