She accepts the offered hug with a smile before giving a vague gesture to her costume, a certain level of pride in how well she had gotten it together. “Thank you! Jo’s the Fred to my Daphne tonight, though I think I lost him somewhere in the crowd.” Taking a moment to pretend to think it over, she nods. “You know, this seems like a very fair trade to me. You’ve got a deal.” She glances back over at the crowd before her gaze returns to Jordan. “have you been here long?”

“Aw, that is really cool! And I’m happy to help look for him because this is quite the crowd,” Jordan responds with a brief laugh before giving a nod of his own at the accepted offer. “Sounds great! Just let me know whenever you’re in the mood to hang out and what you would like to get.” He shakes his head when Finley asks if he’s been here long, taking a few brief moments to ponder the exact amount of time. “It feels like I just got here. Think it’s been around half an hour though,” he continues in the same warm tone of voice.

          “There  are  so  many  dull  costumes  here  tonight.   And  the  children  I  saw  trick-or-treating?   Come  up  with  a  better  costume  than  just  a   simple  witch  kiddos.”   Moth  let  out  a  laugh,   hoping  his  wig  would  stay  on  when  he  tipped  his  head  back.   

“I mean, you’re talking to the guy who came here as Waldo. Probably the dullest costume here,” Jordan chuckled as he spoke. He gave a slight hum while he pondered Moth’s remarks then replied, “In defense of the kids, they are young.” A warm smile appeared as he complimented, “And speaking of, you’ve got a great costume!”

“Hey, after all these years, I’ve finally found Waldo,” Finley jokes, giving Jordan a once over. Ironically, he was kind of easy to pick out of the sea of people, dressed in all sorts of random costumes. Or, maybe Finley was looking for him just a little bit. But, hey, Jordan was good company. Better to find him than run into Matteo or River and deal with that awkward interaction. “It’s oddly satisfying, even if there’s no grand prize.”

Jordan chuckles at the joke, giving Finley a warm smile as he opens his arms for a hug. “Yes, you have,” he starts while giving her costume a swift glance. “And you picked an awesome costume too!” Scooby Doo was one of his favorite cartoons growing up, with many fond memories of afternoons spent watching and trying to follow along with the mystery to the best of his younger self’s ability. He offers, “If you want, the grand prize can be coffee or lunch sometime soon? On me this time?”

Who: open What: the grand opening of The Gorgon’s Lair When: September 17th, 1998 (a whole month later than originally advertised, and that’s definitely not my fault)

The opening of the large doors causes a brief flash of light at the gallery’s entrance that catches Sela’s attention, which in turn has her politely excusing herself from a pair of long time clients that had come to show their support. With a smile, she makes her way to the newcomer; the hem of her long, white gown swaying gently with each step. “Hello there! Allow me to welcome you to The Gorgon’s Lair!” Her gloved arms spread wide with an artful flourish, each pointing to their own elaborate archway– the two true entrances to the gallery itself– as she comes to a stop a safe distance away. “Can I offer you a glass of water or champagne while you wander?” 

Jordan smiles softly in greeting as he answers, “Hello and thank you very much!” Polite curiosity is plain as day on his face, ready to check out and admire the art within. Plus, the name of the gallery does catch his attention, recalling learning about Greek mythology years ago in the classroom as well as on his own time. “A glass of water would be much appreciated, thanks,” he continues while he refocuses on the conversation after a few nearby sculptures had caught his attention and made his inquisitive nature pique. Jordan compliments, “Epic name for a gallery. And the pieces I’ve seen so far look really cool in their own right.”

There’s no humor or quips or vacant sadness in Victor, only the hollow feeling of happiness against him as Jordan espouses what a good friend he is to him. He isn’t, of course. If he was better, one of them would be alive, but it isn’t time to dredge that up again. Not after Jordan’s stopped crying over David. There’s a last swig and he sets the bottle down, returning the hug. He holds him close, harder. As if he was going to leave too, but well—Victor’s learned not to get too attached to too many people. Maybe there’s an exception for Jordan.

He thinks he cries, but he’s learned to dull that part of himself just a little. A small wetness in his eyes as he holds and is held by a friend, for the first time in a long time. “Sorry if I smell like—” Like booze. But really, that’s simply a hollow little sentiment. He’s just sorry if he has booze breath. “Well, you’re good. I still don’t think I’m a great friend, but if you say so, Jordy. You’re great too. You’re the sanest person in this goddamn madhouse and—” His throat closes, but he passes it off, a smile on his face. “Well, we’re lucky to have you. I’m very lucky to have you.”

“It’s all good,” Jordan quietly accepts the apology. He’s fairly certain that he looks like he has seen better days. He gives Victor another soft smile as he replies, “I do say so. And thank you.” While Jordan isn’t too sure about this status as the sanest person in the Omegas Compound, he does know that he will continue doing his best to be a reliable presence for friends and teammates alike. His heart warms a little as he keeps listening to the other, comforted by the ongoing exchange between them. “I’m very lucky to have all of you too,” he adds. Jordan is forever appreciative of having such awesome people in his life.

He moves back to his original spot on the floor, ready to carefully pick up the guitar once again. The personal qualm about playing music still remains yet he’s more than happy to tune it out. Moments like these are far more important and are great steps in the right direction. Before he sits down, Jordan looks back at Victor with a slightly brighter smile. “Want to keep this jam session going? See what we come up with?” he offers.

“I’m pretty sure everyone goes through, just gotta make sure everyone makes it through in one piece” Atticus laughs softly. He looked at the students and often felt as if they were babies; but he was sure that they looked at him as if he was older then they could ever imagine being. He knew that was how he had seen the teachers and staff when he was their age. Atticus sighed at the others response “Yeah..and here I was hoping ‘98 would have been calmer then ‘97, turns out it’s just as crazy and we still have a solid few months to go before the New Year” He brought his drink up, blowing on it even though it had dropped to room temperature by now. “That’s really all you can hope for” Atticus grinned, though it dropped for a fraction of second when the question was turned onto him. “Ah, yeah, I mean, I don’t know” He set his drink back down. “I had a bunch of random thoughts when I was a kid. Once my ability came in though, my mom made me promise not to be a doctor” Atticus fell silent for a second for continuing “Went to school for business because I knew I needed something to fall back on. But I always loved taking pictures; so when I got the job at the Times, I mean that was great.” Atticus fiddled with a pen on the desk “But then the attacks happened and I just…felt like I should be doing more”

Jordan chuckled softly as he nodded in agreement before he responded, “Agreed. Those are the two most important things. Remembering that a lot of people go through it and making sure everyone makes it out in one piece.” He hummed as he listened to Atticus, the look on his face briefly dimming at the mention of how crazy things had been. Then it softened with concern upon seeing the split second drop of his friend’s grin. Jordan continued to nod along as he listened, relating to having a bunch of random thoughts on the subject as a kid. His curiosity piqued when Atticus mentioned his mom and the promise that had been made, yet decided against asking why that was the case. Instead, he replied, “I get that. Not to drag the mood down or anything, but I’ve been wondering and feeling like that for awhile. Like I should be doing more.” Jordan pushed himself up from his perch then made his way over to Atticus, arms at the ready to offer a hug. “I’m happy to have you here. Think we’ll make a pretty great team.”

Adam smiles at Jordan’s display of enthusiasm, “Alright, I trust you. Let’s go to a favorites of yours, shall we?” He waits for Jordan to lead the way. “Well, what’s your favorite place to window shop?” 

"For actual window shopping, the mall,” Jordan replies as he starts walking. "There are plenty of cool stores and it can be fun to simply check out what they’ve got.” It was like a mini-adventure every single time, a fun game of chance to see which store one visited next. “Then for window shopping with a purpose, that honor would have to go 45′s and those markets I mentioned.”

“Listen. Don’t thank me. You’re the one that picked up the guitar, and you’re the one that’s expressing grief healthily,” he says, smiling just a little. Jordan is a soft guy, and he all but wonders what he’s done to get saddled into this mess. Heroes. Villains. The deal clawing at their heels. It occurs to Victor that between the two of them—he’d never asked. Perhaps he won’t, but time seems a little too short to hesitate at least. The corpses that lay buried and gone in their graves are a testament to that.

Floating off to grab him tissues, Victor looks at him and bites his tongue, before just giving in to the thoughts that cross his mind. “Jordy. You’re going to be fine. You’re going to be better than fine.” It’s all he can offer him. The promise of tomorrow. “And if it isn’t—well, you know where to find me, alright? I got booze. I got a guitar. That feature spot’s gonna be waiting. No deadline needed. In fact—” He writes something down and hands it to him: his manager’s number. His father’s. “Here. If you wanna ever do anything with me. Lyrically, anyway. So we can cut you in.”

Jordan returns the small smile, one that warms a little more with gratitude when Victor hands him some tissues. Then surprise lights up on his face when he’s handed the phone number, but he carefully accepts the piece of paper and makes a note to put in a safe spot once he returns to his room. All the while, his friend’s words are sinking in and slowly starting a fire of comfort, of reassurance. He knows that he won’t be rushing to thank himself just yet, still needing to grapple with the less than healthy mindset that he developed during June. But he can pat himself on the back at the very least. For making the first step and setting off in a better direction.

“You too,” he echoes the promises. Jordan’s belief in himself may be shaky at times, but he will always believe in his friends and cheer them on in their endeavors. He glances at the paper again while he listens to Victor, nodding along in understanding before he carefully sets his borrowed guitar to the side. Jordan pushes himself up off the floor and moves just a bit while he holds his arms open for a hug. “Now, these are things that I will thank you for,” he replies. For having an open door to a safe space, for the offer remaining on the table until he is ready, and the possibilities of amazing things to come in the future. “You are a great friend, Victor. And I appreciate you so fucking much.”

Jordan is impressively profound in a way that leaves Finley almost jealous. She’s never been so good with her emotions that she can just say and feel those same things without having to really work for it, and it seems as if the comfort and advice comes as almost second nature to Jordan. Of course, he’s an Omega, a staple for the community, and a support system for students on campus. Of course he’s level headed. But after everything that had happened on the first, Finley still finds it impressive. 

“No, I love that,” Finley insists, smiling at the thought of how much fun it could really be to run around like that, seeing the city through the eyes of tourists who wore matching t-shirts so they wouldn’t lose family members in a crowd, and take silly pictures that hogged half a sidewalk in Time Square. When Finley had first moved to the city, she had been attempting to lay low, and had never gotten the chance to see the city that way. The thought of doing it so belatedly when she had already been there so long was almost tantalizing. “I should try that sometime.” Art, too. She imagines they’re probably good. Jordan seems to be good at almost everything. “I’d love to see them sometime if you’d ever want to share them.”

Jordan can’t help but grin as the conversation continues and he carefully leads the way to join the line of customers. He has plenty of memories where tourists asked his parents to help them take a photo or to lend them a hand with directions. Then once he was older, he started holding the cameras and jumping in to help them navigate their way around NYC. And art has always been a favorite hobby of his, tied with music for his preferred way to unwind or spend a few restful moments. “Art is absolutely worth a try,” he says, tone now warm with encouragement. “There are plenty of mediums, something for everyone. But it is also totally cool if neither end up being someone’s cup of tea. There are so many hobbies out there, just waiting for another person to give it a try.”

Even though he has been complimented plenty times in the past for his art skills, Jordan is still pleasantly surprised when people say that they would love to see his work. He nods as he answers, “Yeah, I’d be happy to share some. There are some papers back at the Institute that I’ve doodled on.” He reaches into his jacket to remove a pen then chuckles, “And it has practically become a tradition for me to draw a little something on those sleeves that go around to-go cups of coffee or other hot drinks. Same thing goes for napkins.”

“Of course! I know I that when I went here, I could be a real brat” Atticus stated “I know it’s gonna be weird to be on the other side of it though, so it’ll be interesting” He shrugged before raising an eyebrow. “Wow, has it only been a year?” Atticus sighed, leaning back, cupping his cup with both hands. “It feels so much longer? I guess because so much has happened and everything. Theo was the one usually keeping me updated on Omega-related things…” He trails off before shaking his head. “Anyway, it’s good that things are going well then” Atticus smiled softly. “Oh wow! That’s pretty neat. Well, I’d say with you’re position you can probably do a good amount of positive change. Probably more then you could have as a doctor” He jokes. “Plus, this way you’re not in school/training for such a long time. You actually get to see the fruit of everything as it happens”

Jordan attempted to hold back some chuckles when Atticus spoke about his time at Xavier’s. “I can relate to that. Had a couple of brat moments myself all those years ago,” he remarked with a light laugh. He nodded slowly when asked if it had only been a year then again at the remark of it feeling like it had been so much longer. “That makes sense,” he replied. “Especially given how much has happened since then.” Sometimes, it still blew him away how much had happened over the course of year. The aching in his heart increased once more at the mention of Theo, but the small smile remained on his face as the conversation continued. Jordan chuckled at the joking before he responded, “That’s how I feel about it too. And making plenty of positive change is the goal, to hopefully help with changing things for the better. In this generation as well as future ones.” He reached for his mug again before he questioned, “How about you? Did other career options catch your eye once upon a time?”

“There is no shortage of fun things to do around here,” Jordan starts without missing a beat. “Never a dull moment in the city that never sleeps.” He can’t help but shake his head at his own lame joke before he suggests, “Checking out the markets is almost always a good time, see if anything catches the eye or sounds like a great treat.”

“You’re positivity is really impressive,” A trait Finley craves the ability to emulate. Maybe she can again in the future, but it feels too far away right now. Every wound was still a little too fresh for Finley’s liking, and positivity is difficult to come by. But, maybe eventually. In due time, maybe she’ll be okay enough again to be so positive, and she’ll come to Jordan to question how he manages it. “It’s easier to believe it coming from you than from most.” 

She pulls open the door to the coffee shop for him. “So, have you really only been helping out with nurse and omega stuff? You’ve got to be doing something for yourself too, right?” It only seemed right. Forcing all his energy into caring for everyone else seemed like it would be exhausting. Or, maybe she was just exhausting. Really, she realizes, she doesn’t know Jordan all that well outside of him saving her life and the few encounters on the institute grounds. “What do you do like to do for fun?” 

“Thank you. I do my best.” Which is exactly what Jordan has been doing ever since. Trying his best, doing what he can to be a reliable source of support for the ones he loves. “Like I said, some days might be rougher than others. Which is totally okay! Healing can be a weird process, for lack of better phrasing. Time definitely has a way of helping with it, so does remembering that there is nothing wrong with taking a step or two back. It doesn’t matter how long the journey takes, just that one gets to point b safe and sound.”

Jordan gives Finley a grateful smile when she pulls the door open for him and he steps inside, casting a glance up at the menu as he continues listening. “Yeah, that has been keeping me busy,” Jordan admits with a slightly sheepish look. Plus, the things that he usually did for himself all elicited conflicting emotions nowadays since music and so many other things had a way of reminding him about lost loved ones. “This might sound lame, but I kind of like playing tourist. Even though I’ve lived here my whole life, I am constantly looking for roads less traveled by and just seeing where they lead me. And art is another hobby of mine. Mostly doodling on random pieces of paper, but sometimes I’ll sit down to do a proper sketch.”

Jordan tears his chest open in front of Victor—he knows how he feels. It’s the same way that he feels onstage, the same way that he feels holding his guitar. Victor doesn’t talk as he weeps a little, right in front of him. Not until he joins in and he hears the heartrending twang of the other guitar, and even then he’s worried that he’ll mess it up. So it takes a few bars, and he revs himself up for it, but Victor glows a soft blue light over the both of them, grief giving way to connection. To art, if he was going to be a sophist about it.

“It’s alright to cry, you know.” The strings of his echo his chest, the hollow cavern it’s become since the deaths that had surrounded them. Drinking works. But however far it does doesn’t even begin to occur to him. Or it does, and it simply just isn’t something he likes seeing. “I miss them too. I even miss Theo giving me hell over accidentally warming up her flowers too much. I miss David eating our fucking pizza.” His hands move deftly and he can feel the tears inside, a bomb ready to let go. Maybe now. Maybe in the future. But it’s there. And Victor thinks it always will be. “So just—if you don’t want to cry, then play. But there’s nothing in the rules that say you can’t do both.”

Jordan’s heart continues to ache more than words could possibly express. There’s the sympathy side of things, simply feeling terrible for the other people who are going through the pain of losing someone or multiple someones after what happened on the first. Then there’s the personal aspect that comes from simply missing his friends. He wishes that he could give Theo and David one more hug, but he also knows that he wouldn’t want to say goodbye again - selfish as that may sound. Instead, he slowly nods as he listens to both Victor’s addition to the tune as well as his friend’s continued musings on the subject.

Tears have continued to slip and slide down from his eyes as Jordan ponders what else he can add to the song. While ideas start to form in the back of his mind, he gently wipes the latest round away and starts to notice the soft blue glow courtesy of Victor. “Thank you,” he quietly says as he carefully begins to play once again. “For listening and this.” Even though there is still a lingering feeling of wrongness when it comes to making music, this jam session feels like a step in the right direction and everyone has to start somewhere.

Jordan has always been a bright light, much like Laurel though not quite as literal as her. She can’t recall the last time she saw him without a smile, finding her half dead in some little shop notwithstanding. She has to wonder how he maintains it even now. She struggles to sleep and exist most days, yet he continues to power through, keeping a smile on his face and working hard as ever to look out for everyone in his circle. She admires it in a lot of ways. If only it was so easy for her to bounce back from where she had been. 

“Well, I’m glad. It’s good you’re doing well, I know it was a rough few weeks for everyone.” Not just her. She had not been the only to suffer in that time, and she knows it. “It seems like people are doing better, too. Physically, at least. I don’t doubt that you have your work cut out for you, unfortunately.” She had paid a few visits to the infirmary even since the majority of her wounds had started to heal. For concerning headaches or other random things left over from her injuries. She can only imagine how many others are in the same boat. 

There are still days where the heartache feels like a constant companion for Jordan, but he is quick to recall that being a nurse as well as an Omega do require a level head. Plus, there are those who lost so much more on the first and there are people who have it way worse than he does right now. Even though he misses his own loved ones more than words can express, Jordan wants to honor them by continuing to work hard, striving to be a steady shoulder to lean on or a symbol of hope like a superhero should be. He’ll keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other. And he’ll continue devoting his energy towards making things better until the dream of a peaceful future can become a reality.

“It has been a rough few weeks,” he agrees because there is no arguing that. His heartache increases as he thinks about his teammates as well as the Institute students and residents. Not to mention the people who were just going about their business as usual, the unlucky ones who caught got in the crossfire of all the bullshit that happened back in June. “All part of the job and I’m always happy to help out. But it does seem like that people are doing better when it comes to physical healing, which is a great thing. And I believe that with strong support systems, the mental recovery process won’t seem like such a rough mountain to climb.” Jordan gives a small smile as he remembers the hope he has for a brighter future, the wishes for his loved ones to be safe and have smooth sailing throughout their lives. A fire that is still burning despite repeated attempts to snuff it out. “I believe in all of you, in all of my friends. The road ahead may be rough at times, but I have faith that the destination will be amazing.”

“Good man,” he says, setting down his own guitar and flying to get one. He wobbles a little, a little drunk from all the drinking he’s been doing since—who the hell knows, anyway. It’s a trail of light as he zips down to a nearby guitar, a good spare, and gives it to Jordan. He’d treat this one right. He’s a nice guy. The nicest Omega out of the lot of them. He wonders, of course, if he’ll be okay. Victor knows he’s got a heart on his sleeve, and he wants to ask—but the fog of it all doesn’t let him see much, other than the strings of the guitar, his friend and the grief in between.

Victor dumps himself on his bed, letting the soft coldness of it seep onto his skin. Bad host etiquette, of course, but he’s got a sneaking suspicion Jordan’ll let it slide. His hands move to the strings, and he sits up right as he plucks a song from them. A simple tune for his friend to follow. “Jordy,” he says, closing his eyes. “Don’t leave me hangin’ here.”

“Thanks,” Jordan responds, concern swiftly appearing on his face when he notices the wobble. He carefully accepts the guitar from Victor, a welcome grounding weight against his body. His mind and heart are at war with each other once again, with the former telling him that this is the wrong call to make. As much as he loves music, there is a reason he’s been avoiding it. Music has always been one of the things that convinces him to open up. Whether it was dancing and lip-syncing along to something more upbeat or one made him tear up for some reason. Maybe he related to it in some fashion, maybe it reminded him of someone or something. Either way, music had a way of making him slow down which is the exact opposite of putting as much distance as possible between himself and grief.

His heart - on the other hand - seems to have teamed up with some subconscious part of his mind. Telling him that it would be alright. The tune from Victor’s guitar brings him back to reality and Jordan is suddenly aware of tears slipping down his cheeks. When had he started crying? “Sorry,” he quietly apologizes once he wipes them away, then the tracks that the previous ones had left behind. He follows the tune, adding a little more to the end while he tries to focus on the present moment instead of the sorrow that has finally caught up with him.

Atticus nodded “Oh, yeah, I’m sure. We’re surrounded by a bunch of kids, you’d like to think that their gonna be way more annoying then anything we could do” He grins, leaning against one of the counters. “Ah yeah, you’re one of the newer Omega’s, right? How’s that treating you?” Atticus asked, curious. He had had known about the Omega activities, vaguely, through Theo. But it wasn’t something that he was super well versed in everything that went along with it. “Also, I gotta ask” He most certainly did not, but he was curious. “Why nursing? Isn’t you’re ability like, telekinesis? Or did you just like happen upon the passion?”

Jordan gives a grin of his own as he nods along then remarks, “No offense to them, but it is simply the way of the student. I was the same way when I was their age.” He stood up and moved to refill his coffee while he continued listening to Atticus. “I mean, the Omegas are still kind of new. Been around for about a year. But I’ve been with them since the start,” he replied. “And it’s alright. I personally can’t complain because I’m happy to help however I can, which is also why I became a nurse here.” He returned the coffee pot to the maker as he continued, “I’ve always wanted to help people. Just the way I was raised, to lend a hand with rough tasks or try to pitch in with making positive change on a larger scale. Doctor was actually one of my first career ideas, believe it or not. If I hadn’t heard of the Omegas, who knows? Maybe I’d be finishing up med school or have already finished, be starting a residency. Telekinesis or no telekinesis.”

“We can share the burden of being super fucking annyoing to anyone else by asking all of the questions all the time” Atticus winked. “There’s a high possibility that I’ll just start opening drawers until I come across what I need. I’ll figure it out eventually” He laughed picking up his own coffee and taking a sip. At the other’s question, he shrugged, a flicker of frown passing by his features before disappearing just as quickly. “I’m ok.” He offers, hand tightening around his cup. “I’m getting by and everything. What about you?”

Jordan chuckled at the joke before he remarked, “But in all seriousness, there are definitely more annoying things out there than asking all of the questions all of the time.” He nodded along when Atticus started talking about the drawers and took another quick drink of coffee. “I will definitely be doing the same thing on occasion. Sometimes you just need to refamiliarize yourself with where everything is.” The flicker of a frown did make Jordan’s heart ache, knowing firsthand that the question could definitely be a rough one. He hummed softly as he listened to Atticus’ answer then replied, “Same here. Just working on nurse and Omega things, putting my energy into being productive.”
