how to design and build your own custom robot (1981)
This book! It’s this book! So, this book was written in the early 80s and it teaches you know to build a small robot built around a 4004 or 8008 CPU that runs a rudimentary neural net. The same guy wrote an earlier book about building a homebrew computer, a couple years prior to the homebrew computer club launching. He recommended using a COSMAC ELF as a main CPU, eschewing ASCII in favor of Baudot because of the wide availability of military surplus teletype equipment using it, writing your OS as assembly on paper and translate it into machine code and then encode it as a hard-soldered diode matrix instead of burning a ROM… I loved that book.
