It has been a busy few weeks, we’re so close too finishing I can almost taste it. with the major hand in looming and the prospect of having to find an actual career in the upcoming weeks, I am terrified that it will all have been for nothing. This last few years have taught me I can wok hard, when i put my mind to it. I can get the best grades, I just have to try. Passion has been a word that has been thrown around for the last few months, it is something we must have as designers. I really feel this passion, at this point it is what wakes me up and keeps me awake too early hours of the morning. I look around my class and see the same 15 people day in and day out while the others just don’t care. I try and surround myself with like minded passionate people, this is when the best work can be done!
My portfolio for the degree show is almost done, I’m making a book that will sit on my table alongside other pieces of work, this will be my proudest moment. Looking at the spreads in front of me I can honestly say I’ve put everything into my time at university, I don’t regret a thing. It is a 58 page portfolio with each project having 2-4 spreads depending on the amount of work. I have it gets good attention from my peers and possible employers as I really have dedicated too the cause.
Just as I thought sending portfolios out in march had been hopeless I have received an email from an agency in London called Make, they are a relatively young studio with big clientele. They received my portfolio and liked it, saying that they liked what they saw and would love too chat some more, asking when i finish university. I jumped at this chance and said the dates, they replied saying they are looking too offer internships out soon, so fingers crossed.
I recently also went up to Leeds, this was a big day. It was a interview/portfolio review with WPA Pinfold, #3 in the country for branding and have won hundreds of awards. It was a great day. Discussing portfolios and my 3 favourite pieces of work. I got too see what the level was at other universities and it was very varied. There was very good work and then some very poor work. Sadly I didn’t get shortlisted and asked to come back, but the experience itself was awesome and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Glass Box Gallery
I haven’t touched upon this project on my blogs, it was a one week intensive brief in which we had too brand the newest gallery in coventry. It was good fun. Working quick to come up with a concept and developing it through too presentation stages. I got great feedback from my peers and tutors, saying the product looked proper and could be used tomorrow, a nice little confidence boost. It was fun doing mini briefs, I imagine this is much more the pace that the real life is. It was handled well.
YCN
I have finished all the designs, I just need one last feedback session with my tutor to make sure everything is okay then i can pursue it further, making sure that I have it with the walkers aesthetic.
Degree Show
We are lagging a bit behind, everyone is so focused on getting their 348DVA work finished no one has had a chance to do anything, I’m getting worried.
Dissertation
Over easter I handed in my draft, Abstract, thesis, intro, 500 words main text and the conclusion. I got strong feedback saying I was drifting a little bit but its okay I’ve gotten back on track with it. Currently at a 3,500 word count i have gotten two other people to read the essay and It is helping with my confidence, a lot. I’m quite an anxious person when someones reading my work, I feel like I write like a child, which I don’t but thats how it feels. I have two more weeks to finish it! lets get it!
