Josh will be on Lorraine - ITV - tomorrow (15th March) from 8.30am to discuss The Durrells.
do you know for how long he was with Hannah Murray? I really liked them together and they were so good in Bridgend
No Iām not sure. I guess they met on Bridgend, which I assume shot in 2014 as it was first screened in Rotterdam in September 2015. I saw some pictures of Hannah and Josh together on Twitter around the same time I also saw them together in person at the Riot Club premiere in Sept 2014. By the time it got to 2016 or so, an anon sent in an ask to say that Josh was definitely single.
Take that with a pinch of salt! I know nothing. Except that heās not with Hannah anymore!!
I like her though. Was sad she cancelled the play she was going to do last year as I would love to see her on stage.
What is joshās sexuality? Has he ever said?
Nope. There was a lot of speculation about that on my previous blog that I had to stop as it was getting quite gossipy (and that was well before Godās Own Country!!) But if you follow Josh on Instagram itās pretty clear he currently has a girlfriend...
Also regarding the spoiler you mentioned - that part felt very out of place and too voyeuristic (& soft porn-y) in a tone that didnāt fit with the rest of the film. But that was the other guy though, not Max/Josh right? And yes about the āintimateā same sex scenes being very tame but the hetero ones being explicit and long lol, it just came across as homophobic like they shouldāve left out the same sex stuff all together imo because that just left a bad taste in my mouth
Yeah, I mean technically thatās hardcore porn really!!! I agree it didnāt fit the tone at all, but donāt you think it felt like a student film school choice: like ooooh weāll be really subversive in this movie. Itās gonna be about polyamory and shared partners and be super hardcore and shocking and pretentious.
LOL.
Shame about their homophobia. Iām pretty sure someone tried to ask them about that in the second screening I went to, but alas it was so long ago I canāt really remember what was said. I guess they skirted it. I think the question was around sexuality and the audience member was trying to be polite and they were not having any of it.
I ended up watching Hide and Seek and didnāt like it at all lol, it was like a film school project and I spent half the film rolling my eyes and the other half being all ???? about the plot. Definitely not for me, I disliked every character and it was just so flat and boring. The acting was alright but the chemistry was off and I ended up feeling angry after watching it šš Kudos to you for sitting through it twice!
šš
Yeah, itās not the best. I thankfully didnāt feel angered by it, but I can understand your reaction. To be fair, I mostly sat through it twice to get to the Josh Q&As at the other end. You know how as a stan youāll just sit through anything lol.
And yes the plot was baffling to say the least. The idea was fine but just executed really poorly in many ways. I recall from the Q&A that a lot of the film was improvised, so that loose approach to the film was perhaps the problem.
Lets not forget though that this film somehow won theĀ Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival. HOW?? š¤
New trailer for The Durrells featuring Josh!
Lubricious or tumid? š¤
Is Hide and Seek worth watching? The Letterboxd reviews aren't very good š¬
LOL this is a very good question. Look, Iām not going to be impartial - I saw that movie in the cinema twice - but I say yes, you have to watch it only for Joshās performance. He is the most Josh in that than any other role I think and thatās enjoyable. Heās pretty, heās good and the film is watchable, you just have to ignore the gaping holes in the premiseā¦. š
Josh and Hannah Arterton elevate it though. It could have been really awful without them.
I have some issues with the film generally, but itās worth me saying DO NOT watch it with any parental type figure as there is a *spoiler* (under the cut at the end of this postš) in it (unless theyāve taken it out for Netflix)!Ā
They made a choice to include that for some bizarre reason, but NOT show any kind of sex between same sex couples despite this supposedly polyamorous group of people. Idk idk, itās extremely coy about the same sex action, yet includes some full on explicit sex scenes with the opposite sex couples.Ā
I side eye this film a lot.
So yes, go, watch it, then tell me what you think!!
Edited to add a photo from the Q&A at first screening of this movie in 2014 because why not.Ā
Josh on Instagram tonight. š
