Read this plaque from Walter Reed Medical Center - what kind of attitude do you carry through your life?  This is the kind of attitude I found while among the troops and the wounded troops working on Where Heaven & Hell Collide. I feel like its helpful to have the experience of meeting these folks - either in person or on film - to truly understand their sacrifice and that what they do is for our benefit.  When I was younger I used to carry around a lot of negativity about the whole thing - that joining the armed forces is just another job and you go into it knowing the risks but you do it for the money and for your family just like any other job. I think there is a lot of that mentality out there, because these days more than any other, there are a lot of bloated, spoiled, uneducated people who don't know they are talking about. In reality, these men and women are surrogates for us. If we lived in a different time or place, we would be the ones fighting these wars. No matter what I think of the wars and the motivations behind them, no matter what I think of things they have done in these wars, I have a new responsibility to; A. Be thankful B. Get up off my ass and do something meaningful with my life that justifies the freedom that has been bought by their sacrifice.
