josie & lizzie saying “love you” to each other
“Don’t know how to admit that I’m broke
How can I be alright? Cause I can’t breathe.”
@ofpparks
After an utterly trauma inducing conversation with her father and mother, Josie was finally free to go see Penelope. Neither of them were mad that she had sex per se (they both knew the twins were passed that) but it was more about time and place. A school trip with a bunch of underaged children that needed actual supervision was not one of those places and times. It was fair, really, it was just amazingly awkward seeing her dad look like he almost wanted to pass out every second of the conversation, which in turn made empathetic Josie want to as well. Thank goodness for her mom.
While they didn’t want to discourage her from being honest about her sex life, she was in the wrong this time and was officially conscripted to help her father with administrative things for the next two weekends. Considering she was deep in the passion of getting back together with her ex-girlfriend, her mom knew better than to forbid sleepovers lest Josie also decided that the gym was a hygienic environment to have sex in.
Josie quickly went to grab Penelope’s letter, not really inclined to read it now that Penelope was going to tell her in person what it said. When she got to Penelope’s room, she could see the door was slightly open, usually an open invite for Josie so she simply went in. “I’m now busy the next two weekends,” she declared. “But I’m alive. Thank god my dad decided to Skype in mom. She wants to gossip about it later.” Not only was Caroline a young mom but her vampire nature kept her rather mentally young as well (probably because she didn’t have to deal with back pain). She walked over to Penelope and gave her a small kiss on her cheek before taking a seat at the edge of her bed.
ofpparks:
There was barely beat in which Penelope would’ve rebutted at Josie’s tease, but just like that and as if she was asking about what kind of sandwich she picked for herself. Josie was throwing the question that’d been lingering between them since the event itself happened. It was a good thing she wasn’t drinking anything, even if she was only waiting for the moment Josie finally poked on the issue.
It was then, that Penelope took a long drink. Her sight unwavering from her, before she lightly shook her head. “I don’t think this is the right place or time to talk about it.” Her words leveled and carefully delivered, more importantly– Honest. Despite what Josie could possibly think. Telling her ex that she broke up with her in an elaborate plan of making her stronger for an upcoming ritual where she might die, in the middle of a cafeteria wasn’t smart. Not when Josie was some hours away from talking to her dad, and Penelope would be throwing him under the bus at the end of it.
Josie was seriously curious. What was Penelope hiding from her? The breakup never made sense and now it was beginning to make even less sense. Josie didn’t believe that was even possible. “Okay... but you’re telling me right after my talk with my dad. No excuses. The only way you’re getting out of it is if he kills me first,” she warned. Josie was patient but even her patience had its limits.
Renewed with a sense of purpose, Josie began to scarf down her food. Sure it was their first lunch date in a while so she should enjoy it but they had spent the last ten hours with one another so Josie was fine rushing through it. Besides, she probably shouldn’t delay lest her father get angrier the longer he had to wait for her.
ofpparks:
Penelope raised an amused eyebrow at Josie’s actions, merely shaking her head with a light smile as Josie downed on the sweet drink. “So I’ve been told,” she commented as she started setting her own drink and food down on the table before taking a seat herself. The comment wasn’t a lie, she’d been told by several girls that tried to go after her, but at the end of the day, it didn’t matter. Because it was Josie the one who actually held her heart on her palm, even if the girl was aware or not.
Taking a drink of her coffee, Penelope scrunched her nose. “Nope, that’s where I draw the line. Not talking about your sister’s curiosity when it comes to this. Do you want me to get nightmares?” The dramatic question could only be topped with a mock shudder, though she was real. Why would she want to even begin to think about Lizzie’s… private life? As far as she could go would be to make mocking remarks whenever the blonde twin was around, but that was about it.
“If you have nightmares, you’d just be more needy so I’m okay with that,” Josie teased. Still, she was definitely not going to broach that topic. It was Penelope’s chance to talk. “So why did you break up with me?” she asked casually before she took a bite of her food. The thought of their breakup still stung but now she was more curious than ever to know what would cause selfish Penelope to give up something she wanted. In fact, it had to be something pretty extreme for Penelope to prefer that she believed she wasn’t wanted than to know the truth.
But they weren’t going to rebuild their relationship on a foundation of lies. It was time for Penelope to lay all her cards on the table--Josie never hid hers.
ofpparks:
“You had a list of questions?” Penelope repeated half amused, half impressed. “Can’t believe little innocent Josie Saltzman was looking to dive headfirst onto the usual teenager dreaded talk.” Penelope could only think on how messy that would’ve gone in her household, it was like she and her parents had silently accorded not to have it. A win-win for all of them, she figured. “So how do you think she would’ve reacted had she been around? Please, don’t say the Mean Girls mom.”
Penelope gave a sort of solemn nod. “Fair enough.” What was she supposed to do for the time being? Yes, she fucked up, she was completely aware of that– And even if the date comment had mostly been teasing, it still made her wonder what happen come the merge talk came into Josie’s life. Certainly, if they were together or not would be the least of each other’s concerns.
The witch decided to ditch the usual Mystic Grill and instead drove them to a local coffee shop they used to attend back to when they were dating. Telling Josie she’d take care of their orders, she asked for what they usually asked for, and while they got on it, she went back to her. “Hopefully you still like your usual?”
Josie nodded at Penelope’s question before heading to find a table. It wasn’t surprising but Josie had one heck of a sweet tooth and she remembered they would joke about how much working out they would have to do after every meal (if Josie could get past her sugar coma). Unlike with Lizzie, Josie could enjoy her sweets guilt free with Penelope around because Penelope would do nothing but encourage it. When Josie was high on sugar, she was practically drunk on it. She wasn’t an incoherent mess, but she did lose a bit of her more boring filters and controls.
She waited patiently for Penelope to bring the food but didn’t wait until she sat down before grabbing the smoothie right out of her hands. While it was never too late for coffee, it never tasted as good after sweets because it literally became as bitter as if it were black. “You definitely know the way to a girl’s heart,” she stated, though it were way too true. Josie didn’t stand a chance when Penelope was making her moves because despite her cold and blunt exterior, Penelope Park was a swoon worthy romantic and it was one of the things Josie loved about her. That special side was reserved only for the people Penelope cares about her and it made Josie feel special to be one of those people.
“My mom wasn’t exactly like the Mean Girls mom but she did run out to get brochures to accommodate me liking girls. She considered directing those questions towards my dad but she didn’t want my sister and I to be fatherless. Lizzie can be intense when she’s... curious.”
ofpparks:
Penelope smirked– She missed everything about Josie, this side no one else would think she had included. People saw her as the bad girl dates the good girl, but little do they knew Josie had a ‘bad’ strike to her. She had burnt her hair after all. Penelope spent the rest of the trip working as a pillow– It’d been a turn of events, on the way over they were pretending to be strangers and the way back their hands linked together while Josie slept on her shoulder. A wince as the kids screamed, the joy of children arriving back to school. In a few years, they’d think differently… “Morning.” Another smirk in her direction as Josie looked around.
Making their way out of the bus, Penelope had avoided looking over at the headmaster’s direction once again. She already knew the expression he’d be wearing, and it was only good he avoided drama like a plague or else he’d be calling them out for not making their way into the house. “Trying to put off the birds and the bees talk? I think you should tell him it’s a little late for that talk, you already went through with it.”
“I’ll gladly go on a date with you, Josie Saltzman.” Penelope continued teasing, as she guided them to her car and took off.
Josie would have choked on her drink at the mention of the birds and the bees talk. “Trust me, my mom had that handled ages ago. Dad would have passed out if he had been there. Lizzie and I had a list of questions.” Most of them were only questions mom would be willing and could answer anyway. Josie supposed that was the nice thing about having a younger mom that never really aged. She was approachable and Lizzie and her never felt the need to hide anything from her regarding their personal lives. “My dad is lucky he’s not a single parent,” even if it seemed that way these days.
“Also, this isn’t a date, Ms. Park. This is your formal chance to beg for my forgiveness.” Penelope still owed her an explanation and no matter how nice things had been since they started being romantic again, they weren’t officially together. That was still up in the air. No matter how much they loved each other, Penelope had a reason for breaking up with her and Josie wasn’t naive enough to believe that love conquered all. Penelope was too logical for that and frankly, so was Josie.
lizziesaltzmanforbes:
“I…. have no idea.” For once Lizzie didn’t immediately have a plan. “With how many supernatural people have come to attack this town it could be anyone. Maybe we hit the library and read up?” She suggested. “And then maybe we can come up with some options… or we could get together with the other witches and do a locator spell to see if there’s any crazy source of magic going on around town… which could be difficult with all the dead people crawling from their graves.” She sighed, frustrated that this wasn’t going to be easy. “Any ideas?”
Reading up seemed like a good idea, though she definitely didn’t think they could do it alone. “We should gather the witches. The more help the merrier, right?” She was sure a ton of them would love the chance to do research on forbidden spells like necromancy or bringing people back to life. Josie pulled out her phone and paused for a second, considering the people they could invite. “Umm... I’mgoingtoinvitePenelope, cool? Cool,” Josie rushed out, having not had the time to tell Lizzie the newest developments in her life.
lizziesaltzmanforbes:
“What?” Lizzie snapped out of her thoughts and looked back at Josie. “Okay… come on… you have to admit it’d be nice to be the ones who figure something out first for once, right?” She couldn’t help herself. She’d always chase that feeling of glory. Recognition was so important to her, regardless of it being something unhealthy to strive for.
Josie had to admit, it would be nice. Dad had been spending more time with Hope since the Malivore stuff so it would be nice to prove that they were useful. Josie knew that their dad didn’t want them involved for their own safety, but her and her sister weren’t kids anymore. Josie nodded. “You’re right... Where do you think we should start?”

ofpparks:
There was no shame in being affectionate in public, it’d never been a problem to Penelope, and now, even if their break up was known around school. That fact stayed the same if Josie didn’t care then Penelope didn’t care either. The witch playfully rolled her eyes, the smile unable to be wiped off her face as Josie celebrated the fact she’d been right and Penelope wrong. The witch would say that not exactly, considering they hadn’t even watched over kids in the first place. But who was she to ruin her happiness? Her smile only widened as she saw the joy in her face. “Don’t get used to that.” Penelope merely teased, giving a quick kiss to her cheek.
Well that wasn’t good. “It’s going to be fine.” she reassured. Who could be mad at Josie for long anyway? “And if you don’t haunt me, I’ll go full Ouija board on you, so you better answer me when I try to contact you. No afraid to double text you to the afterlife.”
“I’m not sure it’s an effective mode of sexting though,” Josie couldn’t help but joke in a hushed voice. Although she was sweet and caring, she was by no means innocent and only Penelope had gotten to see that part of her. Lizzie would have as well but it wasn’t like Lizzie to actually spare Josie the time to talk about herself. “But I’m sure we could make it work.” She grinned and rested her head against Penelope’s shoulder, content to spend the rest of the bus ride cuddling against each other.
At some point, Josie had fallen asleep and didn’t wake up until she once again heard the screaming of kids, excited to finally be back at school and off the bus. She blinked for a few seconds, trying to get a grasp of what was happening. The first thing she caught sight of was her father in front of the bus, looking less than impressed by her state. She still had to talk to him but that was after lunch. For now, she was going to cower behind Penelope as they left the bus.
“Lunch off campus?” she asked, not ready to deal with the onslaught of questions and weird looks they were going to get by being together again. It was a small school—people talked.
ofpparks:
It was a good thing that Josie would say that, and she tried not to wonder if that feeling would continue after that specific conversation. Once again that was no moment or place to be thinking about that. She had the girl underneath her, softly smiling and looking at her with so much love. Penelope wanted to believe things would be aright. Or as alright as they could be. She’d find a way to have it right. “I’ll love to make it up to you, every second of every day.” Penelope smirked between kisses, making it obvious on what she meant.
And as their morning… Routine, continued and extended over time. Once Emma went to retrieve them, Penelope was glad that at least someone had the decency as to not open the door a second after knocking. Penelope bit her lip to stifle the laugh threatening to escape from her lips as Josie frantically ran around the room to get ready. “Good thing you didn’t say coming, or I would’ve lost it.” The witch teased as she caught the bag being thrown in her direction, the smirk not being lost on her face as Josie simply started undressing in front of her, another tease at the tip of her tongue but deciding to hold it back as she changed herself.
“I wonder why,” Penelope deadpanned amusedly, running her hand lightly over it to try and fix it, even if, frankly she didn’t care. “Too bad it’s only the hair.” Smirk as she looked at Josie once again, and she stepped closer to Josie, stealing another kiss as if they hadn’t done that enough that same morning. “That’s was hot. In more than one way.” And Penelope hadn’t been lying.
Taking one final check at the room, they left the cabins and made their way to the bus where once again there were some giggling children at the sight of them. Emma looking at them with a mix of amusement and disapproving look, leave it to her to be able to master that. Other classmates wearing the smirks once again. And Alaric… Penelope honestly didn’t want to make eye contact. Taking their seats, the bus soon started and the witch grabbed Josie’s hand.
“Who would’ve thought? This school trip was a good idea after all.”
Josie looked down at their intertwined hands and lifted them so she could kiss the back of Penelope’s. Although they didn’t say the words, she figured this was a way of showing that they were, in fact, back together again. They didn’t have to announce it to the world but there was no reason to hide it either. The only problem now was to explain to her family why she decided to get back together with the girl who so obviously hurt her.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by Penelope’s statement and Josie couldn’t help but smile. “So... what you’re saying is... You were utterly and completely wrong!” Josie stuck her tongue out at Penelope, relishing in her small victory. She did say that Penelope would have fun and while she had her doubts at the beginning of the trip, it was still predicted when they had signed up and it had happened. Josie deserved every win she could get when Penelope was alway annoyingly right.
Her phone suddenly buzzed and Josie just meant to quickly check it when she saw that the text was from her dad, demanding that she meet him after lunch. Josie groaned and showed Penelope the text. “If I don’t make it out alive, I’m haunting you.”
ofpparks:
“Maybe I wanted to hear you say it.” Penelope smirked, but just knowing Josie had thought about it was enough. The witch relished on the feeling of her lips against hers, the way their tongues met and teeth gently nibbled or scrapped against their sensitive skin. The warmth of her skin as Penelope trailed down her stomach with her fingertips, thumb just stopping on top of her ribcage as she slowly stroked her side.
The motions of their lips gradually slowed down, and Penelope took this moment to softly trace kisses across her face. They’d never stopped doing this, but it’d been a while since it was so gentle, so real– So them. Only separating to look at her as those words slipped past her lips, Penelope’s heart still skipped a beat every time she heard that, for this moment it was nice to know it wasn’t a dream. “I love you too.” And that was the most real yet.
As she looked down at her, hands caressing her hair and skin, Penelope knew she’d do anything for her. Just like she knew there were still many things left unsaid. “Please, never ever doubt that.”
Despite everything that had happened between them, Penelope’s words rang true and Josie nodded. “I won’t.” She would trust Penelope. It was worth it. Josie believed in second chances and Penelope had shown her nothing but genuine remorse and love since yesterday. “But you are going to have to work overtime to make it up to me,” she warned before silencing them with more kisses.
She didn’t know how long they laid there kissing and touching, but they didn’t stop until there was a loud knock on the door. Josie reached for her phone, her eyes widening when she realized they were actually late. “Girls?” Emma’s accent flowed past the door and Josie let out a sigh of relief that it wasn’t her dad. Therapists were more understanding and definitely wouldn’t give her a lecture. Still, that also meant her dad probably knew what was happening and Josie was going to get in so much trouble for being so irresponsible. “Everyone’s waiting on you.”
Josie scrambled up, somewhat pushing Penelope out of the way. “Almost ready!” she shouted, giving Penelope a glare to make sure she didn’t say anything stupid. Josie waited for Emma’s footsteps to fade away before letting out a sigh. “This school trip was definitely not the time to be making up,” she joked as got up and went towards the bags. She grabbed Penelope’s and tossed it at her before she began to change, not bothering to hide anything.
She had just finished tying up her hair when she noticed Penelope’s, immediately prompting a giggle from Josie. “You have sex hair,” she teased. They did do a lot of rolling around during their make up make out session. When she was done giggling, she offered Penelope a little shrug. “Sorry for setting you on fire, by the way,” she added, as if it were the most casual thing ever.
ofpparks:
“Mhm.” Penelope simply hummed in amusement. There was no use in arguing against that, Penelope was confident enough as to not being bothered of what others might think about her. Besides, she was well aware Josie was pretty strong and capable when she wasn’t stepping in the dark for other people to shine. Penelope could notice the dangerous spark in Josie’s eyes, and she matched it with a smirk of her own. The siphoner was definitely thinking of something not so pure at the moment, and it was clear when she spoke– So hot.
Catching her lips, Penelope had to admit that she loved when Josie tapped into this side of her. The one where she didn’t care about responsibilities or what others might think, the side that could get them in trouble but still it was her the one starting it and getting the idea with Penelope following along. The grin on their lips between kisses, and the witch didn’t waste any time to push Josie on her back, the moment she felt the warmth on her skin and the door was closed.
Hand caressing the skin of her stomach as she slipped it under her shirt, between kisses a teasing question. “Whatever happened to breakfast?”
Josie couldn’t help but grin when Penelope got the message and the girl was straddling her. It felt as if nothing had changed between them and they were back to their normal selves. It was scary but also exciting how easily they slipped back into the routine of being in love. She gasped when Penelope touched her bare skin; Josie could never get enough of Penelope and it showed. It definitely showed.
At her question, Josie raised a challenging brow. Penelope definitely walked right into a dirty joke when she asked about eating. “Do I even need to say it?” Josie laughed and leaned up to capture Penelope’s lips again, not done with the kissing after being deprived of it for so long. They didn’t have much time so it wasn’t going to go much further than kissing but Josie didn’t care. All that mattered was that Penelope was touching her after what felt like forever and every single touch was coated in the affection they had for each other.
“I love you.” She would never get tired of saying it.
ofpparks:
A low groan and a scrunch of her nose as she felt Josie trying to nudge her awake. Not because of the fact she actually had to wake up, but having to get up. Huge difference she’d say, because one of them implied simply awake and the other meant she’d have to leave that bed she was sharing with Josie. (Not to mention it also meant the reality of the following conversation would set in even more)
Her eyes opening widely though, as she heard the giggling coming from somewhere in the room, and Josie sitting up. Maybe if she pretended she was still asleep… Hearing the exchange she sat up, avoiding the smile that threatened to crack on her face as she nodded, “There’s a monster under my bed.” Penelope said in a hushed, tone and as the kids ran away she smirked, only turning to look a Josie as her laughter died down. “So I got scared?” Penelope asked in mock offense, the joy clear in her face though as she looked over at her. “Morning.”
Reaching over Josie to get to her phone, she sprawled herself over her, and remained there as she looked at the time– still some time left before the bus back left– and looked up at her. “What if we missed the bus?” Question purely rhetorical as she started with a thoughtful tone. “We could stay here, live in this monster-infested cabin in the woods. Have our very own pool, the lake.”
Josie grinned, giving Penelope an enthusiastic nod. “Clearly I’m the stronger one,” she proclaimed, though it was technically up for debate. There was no doubt that Penelope was a powerful witch but Josie liked to think she wasn’t half bad either. At Penelope’s suggestion of missing the bus, Josie pouted. “I want to but do you remember what happened with my dad yesterday? If we are late, he’ll probably get Emma to put a boundary spell on us like a magical restraining order.”
She paused for a second before pulling Penelope down to kiss her. “Luckily, I’m a siphoner.” Her hands began to glow and with one wave of it, the door slammed closed. Josie was a good person but she was by no means perfect. She had a rebellious, selfish, dark side too and what better time to unleash it than when she was with Penelope? She grinned and leaned forward to catch Penelope’s lips again. If they cut out most of their morning routine and breakfast, it left them with more than enough time to do much more fun things.
Josie made sure her dad couldn’t walk in on them this time.
ofpparks:
One thing was having dated his daughter, the other thing was him catching them in the middle of a full-on make-out session. There was a huge difference between being caught by anyone else, which naturally would’ve made Penelope plaster a huge smirk on her face– And being caught by her ex-girlfriend’s parent, doing very non-ex-girlfriends things.
“Yeah, we should.” Penelope agreed with a light chuckle and a nod. Smiling at Josie’s final suggestion. Anyone at school easily thought that whenever Josie spent time at her room, they did nothing else but hook up– Granted, sometimes that wasn’t a lie. But they’d probably be surprised as to how more often it was to only find them watching movies on Netflix, or simply cuddling. Sometimes both of them spent time doing their own thing, like studying or writing an incredibly boring essay in silence, as long as they were together in the same room. Penelope enjoyed it just as much.
As Josie changed, Penelope stayed back getting changed herself, before pulling pillows and sheets from one bed to another. A sigh leaving her lips as she sat on the bed, the toll of the rollercoaster of a day setting in her bones. While some things had been put on the table, like the absolute huge elephant that they clearly were very much in love with each other. There still was the nagging feeling of carrying a knowledge Josie was unaware of, the one that started all of this mess in the first place. She knew there still was a serious conversation ahead of them– Why did you break up with me? What are we doing now? And Penelope knew the answer to the first would greatly affect the second and more.
However, she decided to put the thoughts to rest for the night as Josie came back into the room. Motioning for her to come, and pulling her to the bed with her. Laying face to face with her, so close to each other, Penelope let her index finger gently run down the side of Josie’s face, stopping at her chin and cupping it to pull her slightly in her direction to press their lips together in a gentle kiss. There wasn’t much to say, not in that moment– And maybe after all, taking care of kids (or the lack of) proved to be good idea after all.
Josie woke up the next day feeling more rested than she had since the Malivore fiasco began. Things were finally beginning to feel normal again, especially because she has happily wrapped in Penelope’s arms. While they hadn’t dated long, they quickly fell into a comfortable routine during their relationship. Josie was never alone, her time split between her obligations, Penelope, and Lizzie. It kept her very busy but in the best ways.
She playfully poked Penelope’s nose, getting that cute crinkle that came every time Penelope was feeling extra happy and sweet. “Wake up,” she whispered, nudging their foreheads together. To be honest, Josie was perfectly content where she was and wished she could just fall back asleep with Penelope. However, her dreams were ruined the moment she heard giggling by the door. She sat up, her brows narrowed in confusion as she spotted some of the students clearly staring at them.
“Are you two dating?” One of them asked, giggling among her friends as if it were scandalous.
Josie couldn’t help but smile, not at all annoyed by the group. “Nah. Penelope just got scared of the monster under her bed,” Josie answered. She gently siphoned a bit of Penelope’s magic and used it to make the other bed begin to shake as if something wanted to emerge from it. The kids playfully screamed before running away, causing Josie to laugh in response.
