I have been on a rampage of looking at Dennis Reynolds posts and Iāve come to a conclusion
People think he either has bpd or npd
He fits so much of the bpd criteria itās scary (a pattern of intense, fluctuating relationships that often alternate between extreme idealization and devaluation (1), unstable self-image, risky or self-damaging acts in at least two areas, such as reckless driving, binge eating, unsafe sex, or substance use (2), intense mood swings where emotions can shift rapidly from extreme happiness to deep anxiety or depression (3), a persistent feeling of hollowness or loss of personal meaning (4), frequent loss of temper, constant anger, or difficulty controlling physical fights or outbursts (5) )
Then heās a classic case of narcissistic personality disorder (grandiose sense of self importance (6), preoccupation with fantasies (7), belief in being special (8), need for excessive admiration (9), sense of entitlement (10), exploitive behaviour (11), lack of empathy (12), arrogance (13) )
And they clash with emotional volatility and a rigid ego which is very well displayed in the show
(1) he constantly goes back and forth from valuing the gang and then degrading them, in the episode without Dennis when he went to North Dakota, you can see how the gang thrives without his constant degrading and then how they fall apart when Mac brings in the Dennis doll
(2) his constant sexcapades, his alcoholism, and the crack + gasoline in āflowers for Charlieā
(3) I mean likeā¦watch five minutes of the show and youāll just see
(4) that whole episode where he was trying to feel something and just how he keeps asking the others throughout the series if they feel all the time for real
(5) screaming naked at that one guy, ābegone from me!!! Begone!!! Starter car!?!? This is a finisher car!!!ā
(6) āthe golden godā, he feels heās better than the rest of the gang, āIM A FIVE STAR MANā
(7) he usually has a fantasized way of how their schemes are supposed to go and he wonāt take the gangās suggestions to change anything and usually wonāt accept anythingās failed till the last second after trying desperately to make it how he imagined
(8) he thinks heās better because of the social class he was raised inādespite the fact heās a man in his forties, unmarried, spends his days in a shitty bar, with a gang of undesirables
(9) the entire episode āthe gang group datesā or whatever itās called, I mean he went on dates with 3 women at once just to get rated 5 stars, he constantly needs people to think his ideas and what he says is intelligent and sophisticated, though itās usually arrogant as hell
(10) he feels women should be lucky to sleep with him, feels his friends should be lucky he lets them hang around them, just that entire time he was trying to get into the private pool
(11) Jesus I mean just watch the entire 17 seasons
(12) he watched Frank choke in a restaurant š also just everything else he does
(13) just everything he says to anyone ever
