WOH, Episode 10. Part 3. Meanwhile, after what happened and what he heard from ZZS, WKX decided to relax, because that's probably how he manages to quiet his guilt. His choice is simple: he spends his time eating and drinking with four women. On the table is a box containing more pieces of fake Glazed Armor, and WKX, clearly drunk, dips his hand into the box, takes the pieces of fake Glazed Armor, lifts them up, and then throws them into the box. The women standing and sitting next to WKX are clearly delighted, although I'm not sure if they know what these pieces of glass are. WKX asks the women if the pieces of glass look okay, and they confirm this. One of them asks why the glass is broken and regrets it. Another woman gently rubs WKX's back. WKX replies that precious things rarely last. After a moment, he adds that the Rainbow Clouds have dispersed and Glazed Armor is shattered. WKX seems to be absent-minded, not particularly interested in the company of women; they are only there to keep him from feeling lonely. One of the women serves food to WKX, who pours out pieces of gold from a bag. The women are very interested in the gold; they want to take the pieces, but WKX slaps them into their hands, and the women cautiously withdraw their hands and smile happily at WKX. WKX picks up a jug of wine and asks the women who will drink wine with him today. He explains to the women that one jug of wine is for one gold nugget. Hearing this, the women snatch the jug of wine from their hands, each wanting the gold. The women and WKX begin drinking the wine. One of them tells the others to pour some wine into her glass. WKX watches the women drinking. WKX recalls sitting with ZZS at an inn, and ZZS telling WKX that WKX wanted to gather as many good deeds as possible. WKX replied that until he eradicated all evil, he would not go to heaven. WKX also said that where there is light, there is also darkness, and the cruelest of devils wear human skin. They hide in crowds of people. He explained that, truth be told, he had come to WKX specifically to reveal their true colors and turn them to dust. He asked ZZS if this was a good deed. This memory makes him realize that ZZS probably didn't understand what WKX was trying to convey with these words: that he wanted to convince him that all evil comes from the Five Lakes Alliance, and that he was the only one who intended to restore justice. Elsewhere in the evening, ZZS spends time at the inn, drinking wine to excess. He is already very drunk and looks around with a distant look. He seems incredibly unhappy and disappointed with what he has discovered. He hoped WKX wasn't a bad person, but what he saw and learned about WKX disappointed him. ZZS tells himself that until he eradicates all evil, he won't go to heaven. ZZS repeats the words WKX had spoken earlier, and they painfully remind him of him. Then he goes back to drinking, and at some point, ZZS loses his balance and falls backward. On the table in front of him are many empty bottles. The waiter, clearing the counter, looks at ZZS; he seems to be their last customer sitting at the table. ZZS states that nothing is impossible in this world, and it seems as if he's addressing someone with these words. He adds that fools always bring trouble upon themselves, and then starts laughing. Then ZZS goes back to drinking and calls the waiter for wine. Like WKX, ZZS drowns his sorrows in alcohol, but neither knows that alcohol will solve their problems, only an honest conversation, which they are unable to have on their own. The rift that has developed between ZZS and WKX seems irreparable. Both are proud and both struggle to communicate properly, and that's their biggest problem.
On August 25, 2018, a promotion for the NARS cosmetics brand took place in Beijing (partly as part of Tmall Super Brand Day / "探秘NARS" / House of NARS, a limited-edition pop-up store with themed makeup areas). NARS invited several celebrities, including ZZH, Zhang Hanyu, and Zhang Yuqi, to the event. It was a product promotion (including lipsticks, blushes, and concealers) tied to Tmall Super Brand Day. It's from this event that I want to share photos of ZZH. At the time, ZZH was around 27 years old. Looking at his appearance, we see dark brown, slightly black-looking, slightly unruly, messy hair, slightly longer in the front, naturally styled, and sometimes slightly up. In the photos, we can see that he has a delicate, fair complexion, distinct facial features, large eyes, natural, light makeup, and in some shots, a subtle tint on his lips. ZZH shows off his slender, tall figure and a masculine, yet elegant presence. For this event, ZZH wore a white, slightly loose-fitting shirt with long sleeves, often rolled up to the elbow or three-quarters. Underneath, he wore what looked like a white T-shirt with a dark print. He paired it with black, slightly fitted trousers and white sneakers. One could describe it as a minimalist, casual-chic look, so clean, fresh, "pure-white" against the backdrop of red and black NARS elements (lipsticks, displays, posters with the François Nars quote, "I have a love affair with lipstick"). The style he chose for this event is cohesive, relaxed, and youthful, perfectly suited to promoting cosmetics, emphasizing a fresh, approachable image. The event coincided with the official opening of the NARS store on Tmall. The "House of NARS" pop-up in Sanlitun featured themed areas dedicated to these categories (Blush Room, Power Matte Room, Radiant Room, etc.). The reception to the NARS event on August 25, 2018, was generally positive and effective in terms of marketing, although media and public attention focused primarily on another guest, Zhang Hanyu (张涵予). NARS achieved strong commercial results: the Tmall store gained approximately 310,000 new fans that day, and categories such as blush, lip liners, eyeshadow, concealer, and contouring achieved strong sales positions (some of them number one in their respective categories). The #探秘NARS theme and the event itself generated significant traffic on social media. However, the biggest media buzz and discussion was generated by Zhang Hanyu – a tough, masculine actor (known for his roles as policemen/soldiers) posing with lipsticks and makeup. The "hard man + lipstick" contrast went viral, hit hot searches, and was widely commented on in marketing articles as a successful (if unusual) PR move. ZZH, Zhang Yuqi, and other guests were mentioned as celebrities in attendance, but they didn't dominate mainstream coverage. In 2018, ZZH was still in the ascendant phase of his popularity (the Legend of Yunxi / 《芸汐传》 period), so his presence didn't generate as much buzz as Zhang Hanyu. However, his fan reactions were clearly positive. Fans praised his appearance – fresh, youthful, and elegant in a white shirt. They often noted that he looked good in a casual-chic style and fit the NARS aesthetic. Photos and short videos from the event were later eagerly archived and shared (many fan videos on YouTube from 2021+ include positive comments like "always so pretty," "I love this look," heart emojis, and admiration for his face/hair). Fans treated it as a normal, beautiful business presentation from the young actor. For the NARS brand, the event was a success (increased sales and fans, plus media buzz thanks to Zhang Hanyu). For ZZH fans, it was a pleasant, aesthetically pleasing moment that they enjoyed watching again and again for its look and styling.
WOH, Episode 10, Part 2. A desperate WKX shouts an accusation at ZZS. And it's a very strong accusation, proving that WKX knows ZZS's past. Hearing him called WKX and what she accuses him of, ZZS is surprised and perhaps devastated. I don't think he expected to hear such words from WKX. Even though ZZS knew WKX recognized him, WKX's words were so surprising that ZZS couldn't immediately respond. For a long moment, the two men stare at each other. Both are devastated because they were both hurt in their own way, whether by words or actions. WKX wanted to shift some of the blame by accusing ZZS of being no better than him. But when he saw the look on ZZS's face and the despair in his eyes, he realized he had made a mistake in making such a vehement accusation. He realized that in an instant, he had ruined everything he wanted to build with ZZS. ZZS could only say one word: "good," and then added "very good." Then, barely suppressing his emotions and tears, he slowly stood up and walked away, leaving WKX alone. Only now did WKX's emotions subside, and with a sigh, he relaxed his tense body and gazed at the excavated earth. ZZS, meanwhile, returned to Yuefan Tower and, standing on its highest floor, gazed straight ahead. ZZS returned to the place where he and WKX had previously watched the Four Sages and spoke of their bond as the ideal "zhiji" relationship he himself dreamed of in his limited lifespan. He recalled WKX's words, asking him if Commander Zhou claimed he only killed bad people. These words evoked memories ZZS probably wanted to forget. We see one of them, when ZZS and Tian Chuang warriors slaughtered a Nic in a house. ZZS, wearing a mask, walks through the domain of another, sword lowered, amidst the fallen corpses. At one point, a bloody girl grabs his robe, and ZZS looks at her, calling him "uncle." ZZS removes his mask, and the child repeats the word "uncle," as if hoping the tall man in black will help her. Then another memory flashes in ZZS's mind, one of him killing the military governor, and then another of the governor's daughter drinking the poison he had given her. Finally, he sees ZZS hammering the last nail into Mr. Bi's body. ZZS now realizes that all the people he saw in his memories were innocent. And yet, in one way or another, he had robbed them of their lives. ZZS understands that, given his past, he shouldn't judge WKX harshly. Standing alone on the tower, ZZS says aloud to himself that he truly thought WIX was his soulmate. He then remarks that how can someone like them be asked about their lives, and feels that people like him and WKX hate being questioned about their lives. He believes he made a mistake in expecting WKX to be his soulmate. This is a moment of deep doubt, loneliness, and confrontation with his own past for ZZS. ZZS feels betrayed not only by WKX's actions but also by his own hopes for true intimacy. He is so deeply devastated by what he has seen and experienced that he fails to notice HY observing him from afar. HY wants to protect his former commander and secretly observes him. He sees that ZZS is sad and desires to discover the reasons for this sadness. The scene highlights the rift between them and ZZS's internal conflict between his desire for freedom and friendship and the burden of his past.
Today's photos are from ZZH's photoshoot for the Chinese magazine NeufMode (九号摩登 / NeufMode Style), published around May 1-2, 2020. Looking at these photos, we see ZZH with medium-length, layered, slightly disheveled hair, with bangs falling over his forehead. The hair is dark brown with subtle, warmer (slightly reddish) highlights, especially visible in the lighting. The hairstyle is natural, "soft," boyish, yet carefully styled. Focusing on his face, we can see delicate, boyish-masculine features—high cheekbones, a defined jawline, and large, expressive eyes. The makeup is natural, yet refined in a "glass skin" style: fresh, smooth complexion, subtle blush on the cheeks, a light smoky/orange-brown eyeshadow that adds depth and melancholy to the look, and coral-pink, slightly glossy lips. The overall impression is one of soft, handsome, romantic, and artistic style. Regarding this particular ZZH outfit, ZZH is wearing a light, mint-blue sweater with a distinctive cable knit. It's slightly oversized, loose, and has a round neckline, making it feel very soft to the touch. The jewelry is a key element here: a silver chain with a square, decorative pendant (a metal frame with a crystal/pearl element or a stone in the center, sometimes with gold accents). The backdrop is bright, soft daylight, a neutral white or cream background (wall), and natural shadows. ZZH's poses are calm, artistic—looking down or to the side, slightly tilting his head, and sitting relaxed. The overall style is delicate, soft, and artistic, typical of Chinese fashion shoots from 2020. The magazine also cites credits (including a Loro Piana sweater and a Liberté/ame necklace by Forevermark). The reception of the shoot was overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic. Fans praised it as elegant, artistic, and showcasing ZZH's "soft handsome"/delicate masculinity (软帅, 温柔系). They emphasized the contrast with his earlier, more edgy or costumed images, which emphasized softness, melancholy, "glass skin," expressive eyes, and a boyish-romantic aura. The photography, lighting, and atmosphere of the shoot were often described as having a unique atmosphere (氛围感). The most common comments included:
• "好帅啊!/ So handsome!" – definitely the most popular.
• “哲瀚好漂亮 / Zhehan is so beautiful”, “太美了 / Too beautiful”.
• “太温柔了 / So delicate”, “软帅 / Soft handsome”.
• “这气质绝了 / This aura is amazing.”
• “这组杂志拍得太有氛围了 / This photoshoot has an amazing atmosphere.”
• “期待更多这样的杂志拍摄 / Looking forward to more shoots like this” – many saw it as a potential fashion/premium campaign.
The comments under the videos from the set (花絮) from this session included:
• “小哲‘公主’太美了吧” (Xiao Zhe ‘princess’ is too beautiful).
• “這髮型好美啊😍” (This hairstyle is so beautiful).
• “天生麗質難自棄” (Natural beauty that cannot be hidden).
• “哦,那身板簡直讓人🤤!帥到,美到極緻了!” (This figure makes me drool…handsome and beautiful to the extreme).
• “不要做寸头了, 跟這款造型沒得比。髮形映响很大” (Don't wear your hair short anymore, this style is incomparable – the hairstyle makes a huge difference).
• “这套大爱 太美啦!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” (I love this outfit, it's too beautiful!!!). International fans added heart emojis, "Lovely expressions," "ZZH 👍👍👍😘😘😘" and highlighted her melancholic, artistic expression. Fans considered the shoot one of ZZH's prettier, "softer" looks from this period. The NeufMode (九号摩登) shoot from May 2020 was accompanied by a short video/interview. It wasn't a long, traditional press interview, but a short promotional video for the shoot and magazine, titled something like "充满体验思考 观察挑战的哲学人生" (full of experiences, thoughts, observations, and challenges – a philosophical life). It has a strong "story feel" and an artistic character. ZZH has said that throughout these years, he has still stuck to the simple logic of being an actor: you first have to acknowledge the role before you can become it. He describes the acting profession as "relatively passive" – it's often difficult to clearly distinguish between upcoming events and crises. Therefore, he approaches it with a degree of detachment: "So I'm very open-minded. Some things are beyond my control." I just do my best." The materials focus on his approach to acting, his experience, observations, and challenges—hence the title, "A Philosophical Life." The "interview" itself is this concise, reflective clip linked to the magazine.
WOH, episode 10. Part 1. Right at the beginning, we see the bodies of all four Sages of Anja, lying neatly arranged on the ground covered with white stone. This may be the area around their manor. After a moment, we see WKX kneeling nearby on the railway, struggling to dig a hole. He uses a sword, which breaks at one point. This, however, doesn't deter WKX, who continues his work. We see the earth around him that has been shoveled out of the hole. ZZS approaches WKX, who is concentrating on his work. Seeing someone approaching, WKX stops his work and looks at the newcomer. ZZS, already wearing different robes, looks sadly at WKX. WKX looks despondent and internally broken. He is unable to look ZZS directly in the face and stares at the ground. He tries to explain this and addresses ZZS, still calling him Ah Xu, saying that his bloodlust seems to be getting out of control. He asks him why every time he sees him, WKX has to kill or bury someone. ZZS looks around. What WKX is doing is just an attempt to soothe his conscience. WKX says that the world of warriors is full of evil, and ZZS looks at the bodies of the elderly. Just recently, he spoke of them and admired their skills. He envied them for becoming soulmates, but now only dead bodies remain. WKX continues to say that it's hard to live in such a world. After a moment, he tells the Sages to rest in peace and to remember them in the afterlife so that in their next life they won't be so gullible. Hearing these words, ZZS looks at WKX, who tells the Sages to choose their friends carefully. WKX continues to say that death is supposedly the other side of life, but they died in vain. Looking at WKX, he experiences this very emotionally. When he falls silent, he goes back to digging in the ground. ZZS begins to speak and states that people say that when someone makes their bed, they sleep soundly. He adds in a calm voice that he doesn't intend to argue with WKX now. He states that the Four Wise Men of Anja weren't bad people. He continues, looking straight ahead, saying that they died completely unnecessarily. WKX understands that what ZZS is saying refers to him and continues digging. ZZS finally kneels down beside WKX, takes his hand, and asks him by name if he's happy and satisfied. When WKX remains silent and tries to process ZZS's words, ZZS asks if WKX wanted this. ZZS must also be devastated by what he's seen and wants to force WKX to reconsider his actions with his words. He doesn't know that his words deeply hurt WKX, who witnessed the events at Renyi Manor. ZZS believes WKX is devoid of human reflexes and has no regard for the lives of innocent people. WKX, hearing ZZS's accusing words, smiles because he can't cry, surprising ZZS, who looks at him as if he were insane. WKX mutters two words to himself: "bad people," and yanks the sword from ZZS's hand. Then, in a broken voice, he says that the sages weren't bad, looking directly into ZZS's eyes as he says this. Finally, turning to ZZS, he asks him, as Commander Zhou, if he claims that he has only killed bad people in his life. WKX is driven to the brink; ZZS's words tear at his heart and soul. He knows that what happened is an indirect consequence of his actions. But it's difficult for him to understand that ZZS, with the lives of innocent people on his conscience, is making such accusations. Therefore, he asks ZZS if he has also killed innocent people. Perhaps he didn't mean to say it that way, but it was his defensive reaction.
This time, we have photos of ZZH from 2016. On June 26, 2016, the premiere press conference (开播发布会) for the series 《半妖倾城》 (Demon Girl / Half Demon Girl) took place in Beijing. The series, produced by Mango TV + Huanyu Entertainment, with script and art direction by Yu Zheng, premiered on June 30, 2016, on Mango TV and LeTV. On that day, June 26, 2016, the official press conference opening the "demon season" took place, with the participation of ZZH (played by Ming Xia), Li Yitong, Mi Re, He Ruixian, and others. There were interactions, themed games (including a "demon power competition"), and set design elements inspired by the series. In the photos from this event, we can see that ZZH has black, medium-length hair, styled to the side, slightly pulled back with natural volume and delicate waves. It's well-groomed, youthful, and elegant, without heavy styling. His face is youthful and fresh, with defined cheekbones and jawline, and clear, smooth skin. His wide, open smile reveals his teeth, and his dark, expressive eyes make it impossible to look away. In some shots, we see light, natural stage makeup accentuating his features. ZZH's outfit consists of a light pink, pastel-hued, slim-fit jacket, single-breasted, with lapels and a two-button closure. Underneath, he wears a simple white crew-neck T-shirt. His trousers are navy blue slim-fit jeans and a black belt. The look is elegantly casual, youthful, and light, befitting the promotion of a fantasy romance with a republican theme. The photos are from this very press conference, featuring signs with the series' title, a backdrop with architectural and set design motifs, and the presence of co-stars. The reception to the event and photos from the 《半妖倾城》 (Demon Girl) press conference on June 26, 2016, in Beijing was generally positive and enthusiastic, especially among fans and promotional media. Official reports (including China Daily, Chinese news agencies, and Weibo) emphasized the immersive, themed atmosphere of the "demon season": dark sets, red "plasma" drinks, hostesses with wings, prop games (batons, syringes, books, etc.), and cast interactions. The media praised it as a successful opening for Mango TV's summer season – a fresh theme (half-demons + sci-fi/alien elements in a Republican setting), a well-produced production, and the potential for a hit. The first episode, at a private screening, received positive media reviews. The interaction between Li Yitong (Nie Qingcheng) and Zhang Zhehan (Ming Xia) generated the most excitement on-site. When Li was asked to choose a partner for the "five love shots," she chose ZZH without hesitation. The pair performed a sweet, harmonious scene, eliciting loud screams and cheers from fans. Reports describe a "sweet, passionate" atmosphere and the audience's enthusiasm. Fans praised the main couple's appearance and chemistry. ZZH, in a light pink blazer, white T-shirt, and jeans, was perceived as a fresh, youthful, smiling, and handsome "warm rich young man"—a contrast to his previous roles (e.g., the cooler one in Decoded). Comments revolved around his smile, gestures (OK, three fingers, index finger), and overall "sweet" energy. It was also emphasized that he was well-suited to the role of the sensitive, devoted Ming Xia. There was also a lot of positive hype – "we're waiting for a summer hit," "interesting half-demon theme," "nice costumes and set design." ZZH fans were pleased with his presence and promotion. Fans, however, praised ZZH's chemistry with Li Yitong, his performance in romantic scenes, and Ming Xia's overall "warm" portrayal. At later events (e.g., the afterparty), ZZH and others jokingly complained about the "violence" towards male characters, which fans took with humor. Fans responded enthusiastically to the cast's interactions and appearances, which helped fuel hype ahead of the premiere on June 30, 2016.
WOH, Episode 9. Summary 27. Brother Du, seeing what his proposal to come to Yueyang has led the Sages of Anji to, has only one solution. He tells the Leader of the Five Lakes Alliance that Brother Pei stole the Glazed Armor for him and asks, not expecting an answer, if it was worth it. Horrified, Gao Chong asks Brother Du for forgiveness, but the older man has already made up his mind. All his loved ones, with whom he spent many years of peace and friendship, are dead. He, too, is nearing the end of his days. He thinks to himself that what good is revenge if his soulmates are gone? At that very moment, he throws his zither into the air, which falls and shatters on the ground. And at that very moment, using his sword, he ends his life. What he did was unexpected by most of those gathered in the courtyard. Even HH is surprised by what he saw, and Gao Chong is downright devastated. Brother Adi falls at the Genii Manor, and his death is a sad reminder of what lust can lead to when held in the hands of Glazed Armor. This death also makes a huge impression on WKX. After a moment of emotion, HH begins to coldly calculate how to turn Brother Du's death to his own advantage. After a moment, he tells Gao Chong that behind every debt there is a debtor, adding that the sages died, directly or indirectly, at the hands of FXF. He declares that the Beggar Gang had nothing to do with it. He claims that his brother was deceived and poisoned, and that TH and LL acted in self-defense. Now that all the sages are dead and cannot accuse HH, HH decides to clear his name and blame FXF for the attack. He also sides with the elderly couple, counting on their gratitude in return for their help. HH states that the Beggar Gang and the Five Lakes Alliance don't have to ruin their relationship over this small incident. These words irritate Gao Chong, who shows and throws two pieces of Glazed Armor to the ground. HH hadn't expected this, so he looks at Gao Chong, hoping for an explanation. The other warriors, including HT and LL, also look around. The elderly couple seems to be beginning to understand that these pieces of Glazed Armor are fake, as Gao Chong wouldn't do that to real Glazed Armor. Everyone listens to the Leader of the Five Lakes Alliance's statement, and after he leaves, HH picks up the two pieces of Glazed Armor that Gao Chong left behind and begins to examine them more closely. Now he, too, begins to understand that these two pieces are identical and fake. Surprise and horror are the emotions swirling within HH. Now he knows he's been tricked and organized this entire attack to obtain fake pieces of Glazed Armor, further incurring the Five Lakes Alliance's wrath. He also spots a third piece of Glazed Armor. He was supposed to outsmart everyone with his plan and obtain the Glazed Armor, but it turned out someone else was more cunning than he was. Disgusted, HH throws the pieces of Glazed Armor to the ground and stares ahead. Now he must devise an alternative plan to manipulate people at the conference. Finally, there's a brief appearance by HY, who discovers that both pieces of Glazed Armor his men have obtained are identical. This gives him much to think about.
The photos are from April 29, 2019, or a photoshoot taken around that date, and are related to the official announcement of ZZH collaboration with Xinxi Culture (心喜文化). On that day, ZZH formally announced his entry into the music world and his collaboration with the label. This colorful studio photoshoot, set against a solid gray or blue-gray background, promoted his new single "Turning Around" / "转身," which premiered around his birthday. It was one of ZZH's early image shoots from the period when he was beginning to develop his music career alongside his acting career. He looks fresh, youthful, and very well-groomed. His hair is very short, thick, black, and crew-cut, with the sides cut into a tight crew cut, while the top is slightly longer and styled naturally. Looking at his face, we see sharp, defined facial features. His high forehead, straight nose, pronounced cheekbones, and strong jawline. Dark eyes, natural eyebrows, and light moles add to his incredible charm. In full-length shots, he smiles broadly, genuinely showing his teeth; in half-close-ups and portraits, he has a more serious, intense gaze, either directly at the camera or slightly sideways. His facial skin is smooth and healthy, with no or minimal makeup. Focusing on his physique, it's slim, athletic, with a clearly defined waist. His most distinctive element is his shirt. It's a classic white collared shirt with sleeves rolled up to the elbows. On the left side a large, asymmetrical panel in a color-block or patchwork style is sewn or incorporated: squares and rectangles in light blue, lime, dark gray, white, and sections with vertical dark stripes on a gray background. The lower part of the panel transitions into more geometric or checkered patterns. The right side of the shirt is plain white. The shirt is partially tucked into the pants (right side), and the colored panel falls freely on the hip and thigh. A white T-shirt is visible underneath. The pants ZZH wore at the time are classic beige, slightly tapered, with pleats at the front, and slightly rolled up. The shoes are white sneakers. The socks are white with thin, dark stripes. His overall look is casual-elegant, youthful – a combination of pure white and beige with a strong, graphic accent on the shirt. ZZH was captured in poses: standing, relaxed, sometimes with a slight twist, a smile, or a more serious look. The studio background is a smooth, cool gray, beautifully highlighting the colors of the outfit and its features. These photos perfectly capture ZZH's image at the time as a fresh, smiling, and stylish young actor entering a new phase of his career. The reception to these photos was overwhelmingly positive, especially among fans at the time and those following his modeling and fashion work. In 2019, ZZH wasn't yet a top actor, so the photoshoot didn't spark mass media hysteria, but it was very well received by his fandom and fans. It was perceived as fresh, stylish, and characteristic of his then-image as a young, smiling actor entering a new phase of his music career. The originality of the styling was praised, especially the asymmetrical, color-block shirt with panels in turquoise, lime green, gray, and stripes. Fans emphasized that it looked modern and "different" from standard photoshoots, while also accentuating his figure and waist. The white elements, beige pants, and white sneakers gave the impression of a casual, elegant, youthful look, perfect for 2019. His smile and aura were noted; in full-frame shots with a broad smile, fans often commented on his "sunny," "healing," and "boyish" appearance. In portraits with a more serious look, fans praised his intense eyes, sharp features, and "model" vibe. Comments such as "This kind of gege has to be my wallpaper!" "Zhang Zhehan perfectly matches my aesthetic," and "Fresh, stylish, boyish, and yet masculine." The short hairstyle, body proportions, and natural expression were praised.
WOH, Episode 9. Summary 26. When the dwarf and the giant fled to avoid the consequences of their actions, they ignored Mrs. Pei's demands for an antidote to the poison. Mrs. Pei is distraught; she saw her husband die, and now sits holding the hand of her wounded brother. Following Gao Chong's instructions, the SS sets off after the escapees. The leader of the Five Lakes Alliance tells Mrs. Pei that the Sages of Anji are his honored guests and are under his protection. The gathered warriors and beggars await developments, while the poison spreads in the man's system, causing immense pain and loss of control. In a fit of rage, the man throws Mrs. Pei outside, surprising everyone. The woman falls to the ground, exhausted, and soon dies. HH, TH, and LL immediately notice that she holds a piece of Glazed Armor in her hand. One of the beggars runs up to the woman's body, takes the piece from her hand, then holds it up and announces that it is Glazed Armor. These words attract the attention of the warriors standing outside, and they rush into the courtyard. Only Gao Chong remains calm and carefully observes the piece. The joy of their loot is interrupted by the appearance of a blinded man in the courtyard. He leaps out of the manor with a sword and begins attacking the people gathered in the courtyard. I believe the poison robbed him of his ability to think logically and drove him to this action. I don't think he even realized he had harmed Lady Pei. The man begins to fight, and it seems the poison has given him immense strength. Seeing his behavior, the elderly couple decides to take the initiative, believing they too should have the right to possess Glazed Armor. While everyone is focused on the man, who is mad with pain, the couple seizes the opportunity and attacks him from behind with sticks. The man falls to his knees, and HT and LL, defying Gao Chong's demands not to kill him, deliver another blow. The man falls to the ground dead, no longer feeling pain. Brother Du, the last sage, watches helplessly. Inside the manor, he turns to Mr. Pei's body and draws his sword. He is devastated by what has happened and what the fight for the Glazed Armor has led to. I think he wishes he could turn back time and oppose the search for the Glazed Armor. Now it's too late; his soulmates are dead. He steps onto the manor porch and declares that they have lived in isolation for fifteen years. He adds that they have forgotten their worries. He exclaims that the fifteen years they spent together were destroyed in an instant by the Glazed Armor. Brother Du calls the Glazed Armor that "thing," so I suspect he believes this piece wasn't worth the lives of his friends. I suppose he might have been the one who wanted to convince Mr. Pei not to covet that piece of Glazed Armor because it might bring them misfortune. Finally, he turns to Gao Chong and declares that all four of them had long since retired from this world and wanted to spend the rest of their lives in the forest. He added that they had only come to the Heroes' Conference because of Gao Chong. He finally stated that he hadn't considered that when they arrived in the city, they would meet with death because of the loyal friendship between him and Gao Chong. Brother Du says this, admitting that the blame for what happened might lie with him, because if he hadn't persuaded his friends to come to the conference, the tragedy wouldn't have happened. He doesn't blame Gao Chong, but rather blames himself for his wrong decision.
Today, we have photos from June 3, 2020, of the booting ceremony for the series Word of Honor (山河令 / Shan He Ling, formerly Tian Ya Ke). The series filmed at Hengdian World Studios from June 3 to September 23, 2020, and the launch ceremony with the cast (including ZZH and GJ) took place that day. Holding incense (香) is a standard element of such ceremonies in the Chinese film/television industry – it's supposed to bring good luck to the production. In the photos, ZZH looks very casual, modern, and "cool" because it's a backstage look, not a TV show costume. At the time, his hair was slightly longer, slightly disheveled, naturally styled, and with a slight volume. He wore his signature aviator sunglasses with bluish-purple or blue lenses, which gave him a cool, rock-chic look. ZZH's outfit was a cropped black T-shirt with a blue "Louis Vuitton" logo and stylized lettering, and black pants that looked like jeans or cargo pants. It was a simple, street-style, minimalist look. Looking at the photos, in some photos, he holds bundles of incense, sometimes already lit and smoking, while in others, he claps his hands. He appears relaxed, with a slight smile or a focused, "cool" expression. His figure is slim and tall. GJ is often seen alongside ZZH, who appears here wearing a beige cap with the word "AUTUM," a black shirt over a white T-shirt, and black pants, also holding incense. As mentioned, these are photos from the official filming ceremony (开机仪式) for the series WOH, which took place on June 3, 2020, at Hengdian World Studios. The main cast (ZZH and GJ as dual leads) and production crew were officially announced on the same day. The ceremony had the standard feel of Chinese "booting ceremonies." Incense (香) was lit and held—a ritual meant to bring good luck and prosperity to the production. Clapping, group photos, and the presence of most of the cast and crew were noticeable. The actors were in casual clothes, as this was only the formal launch. According to media reports : ZZH and GJ appeared in black outfits, looking "handsome and smiling”. In the photos, both participate in the ritual in a calm and professional manner. This was a moment when they were just beginning to get to know each other—GJ was initially quite shy and reserved (producer MT later described him as a "shy boy"), while ZZH was more open and experienced. At the time of publication (June 2020), the reception was rather calm and typical of standard photos from "开机仪式." The series Tian Ya Ke (later Word of Honor) wasn't a hit yet – it was just the beginning of a mid-sized production, so the photos didn't cause a huge stir. Fans who saw them mostly praised the looks of both actors. ZZH, in a black LV T-shirt and sunglasses, was described as "cool," "handsome," "street-chic," and "full of character." GJ, in a beige cap and black, was described as "pretty," "youthful," and "decent." Comments included: "They both look good in black," "a nice couple for the show," and "a traditional incense ceremony." Many fans (both then and later, when the photos were recirculated) noted that there wasn't any particular closeness between them. GJ himself later addressed these photos and these comments in an interview. He said, more or less, "Don't judge how close we were based on those ceremony photos. Many said there was no chemistry. But if you look closely, I look at him in them." This phrase later became a favorite "candy" for CP (JunZhe / 浪浪钉) fans. When WOH became successful, these photos were revived and given a whole new life. CP fans analyzed them in terms of "first glance," "destiny," and "the beginning of history." Comments like "he was already looking at him back then," "it started with incense," and "from such ordinary photos, a legend grew." Montages comparing these shots with later, very close-up BTS and scenes from the series appeared.
WOH, Episode 9. Summary 25. HH knows that his situation and that of his gang is bleak considering what happened at Renyi Manor. Therefore, he must make a choice on how to present this situation to his advantage. Therefore, he verbally attacks Gao Chong, while the other warriors wait to see how the situation develops. HH accuses the Five Lakes Alliance of acting arrogantly because he believes he has no equal in the Jianghu. These words do not sit well with the warrior from the Hua Shan Sect, who points out that this is not the place to boast about martial arts skills. The warrior understands perfectly well that there is no point in quarreling with the Yueyang Sect, and the best choice is to show that he sides with the Five Lakes Alliance. He certainly believes that this way he and his men will avoid responsibility for what happened here. He is cunning and intends to use this cunning to the geishas by telling them that the Hua Shan Sect follows Gao Chong's leadership. HH is angry because someone proved to be smarter than he is; he must have previously thought these people were just dumb warriors who could be fooled into receiving Glazed Armor. Unlike HH, who cautiously remains silent, TH reacts violently, calling the warrior a "scumbag." He adds that the reputation of the Five Mountains Sects has been tarnished by the warrior. But the woman is silenced by SS. And it is he who draws the attention of TH and LL, who have had a long-standing quarrel with SS. TH can't stand it anymore and declares that they are better than the Five Lakes Alliance, which, in her opinion, was dishonorable from the very beginning. After everything that has happened with SS, the woman finds it difficult to control her emotions. She is also unfazed by SS's threats to kill her, and with her behavior, she tries to provoke SS into taking unforeseen actions. The previously calm HH strikes the ground with his mercy, which is taken by his men and warriors as a signal to prepare for battle. The situation in the manor courtyard looks difficult to resolve. LL also intervenes and says, "How dare SS say such a thing?" The woman's husband is right. Regardless of their past, SS, as a young man, should show respect to an older person and not threaten her in the way he does. LL accuses SS of boasting about coming from a righteous and well-known sect. I think the verbal clash between SS and the older couple, which attracted most of the attention, provided the opportunity for the dwarf and giant to leave the manor courtyard. They decided that, to avoid responsibility, the best solution was to flee. Only when they reached safety did the dwarf decide to verbally attack the Five Lakes Alliance. The people gathered in the manor courtyard heard only his shrill laughter and words, accusing Gao Chong of being impudent and having a guilty conscience, which he considered disgusting. This is simply his way of defending himself. He saw that HH had acted in a similar manner and that the Leader of the Five Lakes Alliance had remained silent, so he decided he could also use the same method. Since he didn't want to get involved and face Gao Chong, he declared that he had no intention of fighting him. He was fully aware that he was in no condition to face Gao Chong. He decided he could slander him, but from a safe distance, so as not to face the consequences of his words. The dwarf is the most vile and perfidious person, without any principles.
The photos I'm sharing today are ZZH's from a fan meeting promoting the series Legend of Yunxi (芸汐传 / Yunxi Zhuan) in Beijing on July 31, 2018. The event was held to promote the series (which was currently enjoying high viewership on iQiyi, with over 22 billion views to date). ZZH (as Long Feiye / Qin Wang) and Ju Jingyi (鞠婧祎, as Han Yunxi) were in attendance, as well as other cast members. Props associated with the couple's fan nickname "Xiqin CP" / "西芹CP" (celery CP) appeared on stage – a large red bottle of "vinegar" (a reference to the "Asian vinegar king," as ZZH's character was very jealous) and a bunch of celery/parsley. ZZH was around 27 years old in 2018. In these photos, he looks very youthful, fresh, and typical of the "flower boy" or idol actor image of the time. At the time, his hair was cut short, slightly tousled, and lifted with texture and volume at the top. This hairstyle is asymmetrical, naturally "imperfect," adding dynamics. Looking at the photos, we see that he has fair, smooth skin, distinct, sharp eyebrows, dark eyes with an intense, focused gaze, a straight nose, and full lips. In studio portraits, he poses seriously, with a slightly tense gaze or with his hand to his mouth or chin; on stage, he smiles broadly, openly, and boyishly. ZZH has a slim, tall, and well-proportioned build. He stands erect and elegant, with his hands in his pockets or gesturing freely. For this meeting and the photo shoot, he wore a white suit with thin, vertical pinstripes, a jacket with black buttons (two on the front, a row on the cuffs), fitted but not tight. Underneath, a simple white T-shirt adds a more relaxed, casual touch. We also see white suit trousers. On his feet, ZZH wears rather chunky white sneakers, not classic elegant shoes. The overall look is very clean, bright, and modern, contrasting with the blue studio backdrop and stage. ZZH's look is fresh, elegant, but not stiff, which is fitting for the promotion of a light, sweet historical-romantic series. On stage, ZZH is more relaxed, smiling, and interactive, holding a prop, gesturing, and standing next to Ju Jingyi. Studio portraits are more "official" shots of the same style. The reception to ZZH's photos and style was very positive, enthusiastic, and typical of the series' fandom at the time. Chinese media and fans emphasized that his white pinstripe suit with a white T-shirt and sneakers looked fresh, sunny, and elegant, yet light and summery—perfect for promoting a light, sweet series. They described him as "阳光帅气" (sunny and handsome), "清新帅气" (fresh and handsome), and "格外引人瞩目" (especially eye-catching). The style emphasized his slim figure and youthful, "flower boy" image. On stage, fans responded with loud cheers and screams of joy – especially during interactions with Ju Jingyi (西芹CP / Xiqin CP). Games, gift exchanges (a bottle of "vinegar" and celery), role-playing, and jokes about the "Asian Vinegar King" elicited thunderous applause, shouts of "太甜蜜!" (so sweet!), and calls for "together!" / "be together!" The comments were as follows: "His smile is soooo innocent 😍😍", "His expressions are killing me.. dam cute 😘", "Even I don’t understand what they are saying… as long as I see ZZH smiles!", "Senyum nya Zhang Zhe han itu lho…..." (an Indonesian fan about his smile), "Elegante Zhang Zhe Han, con su traje blanco y su caminar tan elegante…" (a Spanish-language comment praising the elegance of his white suit and the way he walks). Fans praised the contrast: in the series he played the cold, jealous Long Feiye, and in the meeting he was open, humorous, "max power" in his interactions with the audience and "the power to spoil fans." After the event, comments about his kindness also appeared (e.g., playing with a child and taking photos with fans). Chinese accounts and comments were dominated by praise for the couple's chemistry and how the white look "matched like a pair" with Ju Jingyi's white outfit.
WOH, Episode 9. Summary 24. The dwarf, seeing that no one is silencing him when he utters his insidious words, accuses the wise men of being in the service of Ghost Valley. This accusation is convenient for all those who came to retrieve the Glazed Armor, as it gives them a legitimate reason to lash out at the residents of Renyi Manor. HYF is outraged by the dwarf's words, who curses him and declares that he has no right to speak out. The furious dwarf fires secret bullets from a weapon hidden in his sleeve, one after another. The man manages to avoid most of them, but one hits him in the face, blinding him. To the horror of Mrs. Pei and Brother Du, he falls to the ground screaming. Mrs. Pei calls him the third brother, and the warriors, beggars, and an elderly couple gathered in the courtyard look silently at the dwarf, who laughs horribly. Mrs. Pei calls FXF a deceitful bastard and demands that he give them the antidote. FXF is very pleased with what he's done and, seeing the others' lack of reaction, declares that he'll give her the antidote if she returns the Glazed Armor key. HH and the other warriors certainly believe that what FXF has done is the perfect solution for them. If something went wrong, they could blame the dwarf, and Mrs. Pei could confirm their words. HYF screams in pain and pushes Mrs. Pei and Brother Du away. Seeing the dwarf laughing at the man's misfortune, TH strikes him with his cane and asks FXF if he has any honor. The woman explains that the Beggar Gang, Hua Shan Sect, and Kontong Sect have the right to fight for the Glazed Armor key. She adds that the Arsenal holds the secrets of these sects. As it turns out, only the woman was able to confront the dwarf and prove his demands unfounded. She brazenly asks which branch he's from. FXF is furious; he expected no one to question his mission, especially a woman. TH, confident the dwarf wouldn't attack her, accuses him of not even being in Jianghu 20 years ago. She simply tells him to get out of here quickly and far away. HH listens to this in silence, happy that he'll have the opportunity to get rid of the dwarf and his companion at someone else's hands. He believes that the fewer people to divide, the better. TH, seeing FXF's face contorted with rage, tells him that he's disgusted with him. Driven to the brink, FXF orders his companion GSN to dispatch the woman, and the giant raises his massive weapon in response. Their attack fails because it is interrupted by the arrival of Gao Chong. This doesn't sit well with any of the attacking residents of Renyi Manor, as they know that the Leader of the Five Lakes Alliance will demand an explanation for what happened. They will have to find a logical explanation, as Gao Chong has arrived with a large bodyguard. The giant, seeing what's happening, lowers his weapon, and the attackers in the courtyard look around. When HH hears Gao Chong's demand for an explanation, he has to think hard about his response. He decides the best course of action is to attack, calling the Five Lakes Alliance arrogant, adding that he hadn't investigated the matter further because of Gao Chong. HH shrewdly decides it's best not to completely sever ties with the Five Lakes Alliance, but he also wants to save face with the warriors he persuaded to attack Renyi Manor.
This time, we have photos of ZZH (写真) from a photoshoot for So Cool magazine in September 2015, specifically around September 12, 2015, as there's a fan compilation called "20150912 So Cool 杂志 写真." It was a classic street/outdoor-style fashion shoot in an industrial setting—the background was gray, metal garage or hangar blinds, metal frames, and a concrete surface with white lines. ZZH was young at the time, 24 years old, and had a very boyish, sunny look. His short, slightly unruly black hair was slicked back and up, with a natural texture. We see a wide, open smile showing off his teeth, warm, lively eyes, and a very "boyish" look with an energetic expression. What's striking here is the lack of heavy makeup; he has a natural, fresh complexion. His outfit consisted of a light blue acid-washed denim jacket with prominent metal studs on the shoulders, sleeves, and back. Underneath, he wore a dark (almost black) T-shirt, revealing the collar. The jacket's sleeves were slightly rolled up. The bottom of the outfit consisted of dark blue slim-fit jeans, rolled up high at the ankles. The shoes were distinctive, high, patterned Doc Marten-style boots with a floral and animal print in shades of brown, beige, and black, creating a very expressive element of the look. ZZH used a bicycle for the shoot: a classic black city bike with high, curved handlebars (a "chopper"/lowrider-ish style), black fenders, and white tires. ZZH poses dynamically – sitting sideways, standing leaning on the handlebars, looking over his shoulder, and raising his hand. The look is typical mid-2010s street fashion: casual, youthful, with a slight rock-denim accent (studs + jeans + statement shoes). The whole thing exudes the freedom, energy, and "cool boy" vibe of that period in ZZH's career (just before/after Legend of Ban Shu and Nirvana in Fire). The reception to So Cool's photoshoot was overwhelmingly positive, although at the time, ZZH wasn't yet a top star (he was a rising actor after roles in Legend of Ban Shu and Nirvana in Fire – as a young Lin Shu). The photoshoot was part of building his "sunshine senior" (阳光学长张哲瀚) image – boyish, energetic, naturally charming, and cool. So Cool magazine (focused on youth fashion and lifestyle) highlighted:
• His smile "like the sun,"
• His large eyes, sweet face, and unforgettable, radiant smile,
• His strong charm that "captures the hearts of young girls,"
• His perfect figure (he often boasted about it on Weibo),
• His versatility and potential for bigger roles.
The issue's tagline was something like "FREE with big stars" – the shoot was meant to showcase closeness and freedom. Fan reactions show a consistent reception:
• "帥哥小哲,青春年少!" ("Handsome little Zhe, full of youth!")
• "真可愛" / "Cutest of all" / "So cute, but kind of cool too"
• "一直都是帅的!" ("He was always handsome!")
• "超帥氣又超美的海绵宝宝" (super handsome and beautiful "SpongeBob" – a term of endearment. We emphasized his boyishness, energy, smile, and bike styling (denim + studs + patterned shoes + vintage bike) as a "cool youth/street" vibe. Fans often write that such photos show his "most beautiful youthful years" (17–24). (The photoshoot was well-received as natural, cheerful, and fitting ZZH's image at the time – a sporty, sunny boy from Zhong Han Meng Zhi Dui (China-Korea Dream Team) and his costumed roles. It didn't spark controversy, but rather reinforced his positive, boyish image, which fans later nostalgically recall as his "pure youth" before later events. The magazine introduced ZZH as "阳光学长张哲瀚" ("Sunshine Senior Zhang Zhehan"). Key points of the description:
• His facial expressions and aura: sometimes he looks down with a shy smile, and other times he's sweet and charming.
• A smile "radiant like the sun" – a strong, natural charm that "wins the hearts of young girls."
• Appearance: large eyes, sweet face, unforgettable sunny smile.
• Body shape: his "perfect figure," which he often showed off on Weibo (fitness, sporty lifestyle).
• Personality and potential: versatile talent with the potential for major film and television roles.
• Daily life: love of fitness and positive energy. It was a typical, light-hearted youth fashion profile – focused on appearance, a boyish/sunny image, and lifestyle, rather than an in-depth, lengthy biographical interview or role review. It fit the tone of So Cool magazine (youth fashion & lifestyle) and the then-current stage of ZZH's career (a young actor building a "cool & sunny" image).
August has been my most hated month of the year for five years. And this month, I have many family celebrations: my father's birthday, my sister's birthday, and my parents' wedding anniversary. And one event has prevented me from enjoying these events as much as before. For five years, I haven't been able to watch a single Chinese drama. After two years, I tried, but I ended up not being able to watch a single one through to the end. It's deeply embedded in me, and the injustice that has befallen ZZH hurts me deeply. Now I understand that his case was meant to be a warning to other actors/actresses. They were shown not to fight the "system," because it will destroy a rebel. I think they understood that. I don't know how many of them sympathized with ZZH, but there are no sentimental feelings or true friendships in this industry. ZZH, who quickly became popular in 2021, was a threat to other actors. He could have robbed them of good roles and promotional opportunities. ZZH was a rebel who spoke openly about the dirty laundry in the c-ent. He became inconvenient and had to be destroyed. After these five years, little has changed; actors are still exploited to the limit so that agencies can make money. They don't care about their health, as I sometimes see BTS from certain series where it's impossible not to notice the actors/actresses are injured. Sometimes you can also read about the actresses' mental exhaustion. It was sad to hear about what happened to one of the Chinese actors in September 2025. His family and fans are waiting for justice. And the Chinese film/TV industry is considering using AI in future productions. It's starting with the "opening credits" of series created using AI, which is disgusting. I'm glad some people are noticing this. Looking at this industry from the outside, it exploits actors/actresses to the limit because it's a money-making machine for them. And they'll continue promoting them until another actor/actress is found who will arouse admiration in a new drama, and everything can start over. I hope ZZH is living a peaceful life and waiting for his case to be resolved. I read somewhere that Xiao Zhan won his slander case after five years. Another thing that bothers me is where CAPA is and its famous lists of bad artists. Now I'm a bit more detached from the whole situation, but I still hope ZZH receives justice and chooses his own path. And the people who wronged him will end up in hell.
WOH, Episode 9. Summary 23. Mrs. Pei is deeply distraught after her husband's death. They had lived together and with their friends for so many years without anyone attacking them, and now that they wanted to help Gao Chong and obtain the Glazed Armor for him, she reproaches HH and his Beggar Gang. She tells them that they consider themselves the biggest gang in the world. She asks them if the beggars intend to take the key to the Glazed Armor from them by force. HH says that if they had used force, the sages would already be dead. We don't know who attacked the sages first, but I suspect it was one of the warriors, because I think the bodies of the warriors lie on the manor's porch. He claims that the Arsenal holds the secret martial arts and techniques of all the clans and sects, including the Beggar Gang. The woman listens to these words, and according to the stories, HH may be right about what was found in the Arsenal. She is unable to counter this argument. No one truly knows what's hidden in the Arsenal, and the circulating legends are difficult to verify. HH loudly states that his mission is justified. HH doesn't want to be perceived as an aggressor, so he tries to remain calm and control his emotions. He desperately wants the piece of Goazed Armor that Pan Pei has obtained to reach him. HH tells the woman that they're doing this for the good of the sages. He then threatens that the other warriors aren't as good-natured as HH and the Beggar Gang. These words outrage the warrior from the Hua Shan Sect. I suspect that HH was the instigator of the attack on the residents of Renya, having cleverly persuaded other warriors to accompany him and his gang. He anticipated that if something went wrong, he could blame others. For now, he's using these warriors as a means of blackmail. He doesn't expect the leader of the Hua Shen Sect warriors to agree with the sages from Anji. The young warrior explains that the Glazed Armor key has no owner and is controlled by those with power. He adds that if the Beggars' Gang has a claim to it, then doesn't the Hua Shan Sect have one as well? HH thought he had gathered dull thugs to help him carry out his plan. It turned out he was wrong. The Hua Shan Sect warrior not only sided with the Anji sages but also questioned the Beggars' Gang's claim to the Glazed Armor key. The young man had no intention of allowing himself and his men to be used in HH's game. However, for the sages, what happened was a signal, and the group that attacked them is divided. HH, angrily, asks the warrior what the Glazed Armor key has to do with their sect. Before the warrior can answer, a dwarf perched on the giant's shoulder speaks up, calling HH a stinking beggar. He insultingly states that HH has lost his mind from craving food. These two are yet another suspicious group of individuals who want to profit from this attack and acquire the Glazed Armor. The dwarf is brazen and sits with his arms outstretched, to which his secret weapon is attached. He loudly and clearly states that the Glazed Armor key was recently found in ALZ's possession, adding that, as everyone knows, he was killed by Ghost Valley. He insultingly says that it has now fallen into the hands of the four Fools of Anja. I suspect the sages didn't know who owned the piece of Glazed Armor that fell into their hands. Therefore, the two men are surprised by what they hear.
