Being 18 revision process

I think my “Being 18″ paper is coming together pretty nicely. I think that I have to put more emphasis on how people 500 years from now would see my life as an 18 year old. I need to give them more insight on how life is.

I also think that I should rely on my #trending topic, which is Apparently by J. Cole. It helps me explain what I really mean when I talk about how I believe how the year 18 is supposed to be.

My paper is going well. I’ve continued my theme of being afraid of being out in the real world and being informed in politics and world events. I elaborated more and related it back to how we as 18 year olds can be more informed.

Many improvements have been made. a title has been added to my writing its called “Get Drunk, Have Fun”. Necessary grammar updates have been made as well. i indented at the right places which is always nice. currently thinking about how to relate alcohol commercials and pop song more clearly. also trying to decide what point my intro begins and ends but so far i don't want an introduction, theres no introduction to life. I do feel it to be necessary to have a conclusion because life defiantly ends.

What year was this interviewee 18?

The Person I did My Interview on is Javier Sanchez, he works in the Main Dining Hall.

Javier Sanchez is from Chicago and is of Puerto Rican descent. He didn’t care about family and was deep in the streets. Growing up being a Puerto Rican was very easy for him due to the fact that he looked like he was mixed with Black. Everyone thought that he was mixed and looked black so it wasn’t hard for him to fit in and adapt with others in Chicago. Javier moved from Chicago to New Jersey when he was 18, after house arrest to seek new adventures and go to places he never went to before. Javier thought he came to change his life and get more opportunities but got sidetracked when he began to start selling drugs for money when he was in high school. He had a job when he was 18 with Ford Motor Company and he was making $86,000 a year. Being with a motor company, he knew how to drive and owned 7 cars. Javier moved to Phoenix, after a few years and went to college for two years to study sociology and another year and a half to study nursing but since he had so much of the streets in him, he started fighting all the time in school. He ended up going back to what he knew most about, which was the streets and began to make enemies, since he was living in a new area. Javier told me “ Being 18 was fun and stress free!”. He has no children. He moved to Albany, after three years, looking for a job because he realized that he was not getting any younger, he needed to make money and really wanted a change in his life so that’s when he saw The College of Saint Rose was looking for a cooks and he came to the college looking forward to the job and now he works in the school as one of the cooks in the Main Dining Hall.

My Interview With My Mom

 Q: what year did you turn 18?                                                                                A: 1996

Q:where did you live at the time?                                                                          A: Bronx, New York  The Bronx is completely different from when i was 18. There was a lot of drugs and gangs everywhere.

Q:Were there any important events that happened while being 18?                      A: I gave birth to you.

Q:Were you working and where?                                                                          A: Yes, i worked at century 21.

Q:What did being 18 change for you?                                                                  A: I became a mom, moved out of my mother house and got apartment. Enrolled myself into community college.

Q:Did anyone treat you different after turning 18?                                                A:After i got pregnant,everyone treated me like i had a disease. The only thing everyone saw was my belly.

Q:What was your favorite show and movie at the time?                                         A: My favorite movie was Independence Day. It came out when you were born.      smallville was my favorite show.

My brother Nick Sebastiano will be one of the youngest participants for this assignment, Having said that he is overly qualified for being an adult. He's one of the smartest people I've ever met with a brain like a computer and emotions of a sensitive human being. He starts by describing how his life was when he was 18 three years ago he was in an unhealthy state, pervious years left him labeled with an unknown heart condition, being in and out of the hospital for a lot of his high school years. He said more than having to leave his long time girl friend go and start a new life at college he was worried about his health. Going to saint rose himself his dream is to be a producer, a notable producer for well known records. He mentions around the time he discovered Edm and Dubstep that is originally what he wanted to do and make. By the time he was 18 that type of music had hit main stream and took it by storm, thus it was less interesting and not as cool anymore to do that. When asked about how the media effected him as a person it defiantly yielded some satisfying results. He goes on about how originally the media influenced his expectations of college with images of people going to parties, getting drunk, and getting laid that’s what warped his perception of college. He continues with thats not how it’s actually meant to be but how it can be like that if thats what you want to do, he knew many people who lived like this and most of them winded up dropping out at this point. He said “its most important to work on your actual interests to receive the full and or entire college experience”. He finishes his thoughts by saying now being 18 you can't vote for Obama but you can vote for trump its changed in that way. Also he mentions the difference of being 18 three years ago and being 18 now and he emphasizes taking advantage of attainable information and uses the word “dire” to describe the need for this information. Simply put the learning curve is flattened for young people they can access better information more effectively making the window smaller and smaller to get ahead in this world with out everyone catching up.

at 5:30 i was in Greek class i didn't take a picture because i was in class. its also not a cooking class so disregard cooking class. Also disregard Sue Miller i don't know who that is.

- I like to eat a lot, so it was only right that I made that the highest percentage of how I spend my days.

- Second, I feel like like class takes up most of my energy during the day. Having to wake up from my peaceful sleep is not the wave.

- Then I have to complete my homework, which can sometimes be a load.

- The last two percentages lead to next percentage of sleep. All the studying and lecturing can really make you exhausted, so this is very essential in my daily life.

- The last two percentages are recreational. To relieve all the stress I get from school or whatever else I play video games and sports to keep my mind off of that negative stuff.

These are the most important things in my life currently.  

Friends 30% - My friends mean the absolute world to me.  I am a very social person and every chance I get I like to be hanging out with them.  We always go on crazy adventures and do the stupidest things, but the best thing about them is that they put up with my craziness and laugh along with me.  Just ask any of them, I’m quite a handful so I really appreciate their friendship.  Honestly, my favorite aspect of life is the relationships that are built between people, and these guys are the most amazing people.

Family 20% - My family is so important to me because no matter what they will always be there for me.  Going away to school has definitely given me a new perspective on my family and it has showed me how much I really should appreciate them.  I didn’t think I would miss them as much as I do and had no idea how often I would call them.  I make sure I talk to my mom everyday and I go out to lunch with my sister or video chat with her all the time.  I really do love them and at the end of the day, I know and appreciate the fact that they will always have my back.  

Dance 13% - I absolutely love to dance.  Half of my time I spend dancing like a fool to music no matter where I am (which sometimes embarrasses the people i’m out in public with), and the other half I spend Irish step dancing.  I’ve been practicing Irish step since I was 14 and I absolutely love it.  I compete often, which entails many wins and also losses, however I do it for the love of the dance.  I’ve made so many great friends in my dance class and my teacher is like a second father to me.  

Drums 12% - I’ve been playing the drum set since 8th grade.  I find it so much fun and its a great way to relieve stress!  I love to just blast music and jam for hours, however my parents never really appreciated that!  Currently I still play the drum set, however not as much because I’ve been practicing the bohdron.  My bohdron is my baby and I play it all the time.  I had it made for me in Ireland out of goat skin and I call it my little warrior because it has battle scars!  Some people might find that a little gross but I have such a deep appreciation for the instrument and is background.  I love everything Irish if you haven’t gathered! 

Music 25% -  Music is literally my life.  I love creating it and listening to it.  I can’t go a day without hearing my favorite songs.  I just find it so amazing how much music can have an influence on your mood and emotions.  Whenever I’m feeling down I listen to an upbeat and happy song and next thing you know I’m dancing and singing along all happy!

Hanging out with my friends takes up the majority of my time being alone is sad sometimes so i don't like that. we do a lot of various activities and its highly enjoyable thats why so much time is out into it.

Education its the entire reason why i an here, maybe it should be a little bigger but thats where I'm at with this right now. ill probably fail out at this current rate.

Video Games its necessary to play video games on a weekly basis if not i may just die a sudden death life can be over whelming but video games aren't there fun and can relive stress.

Listening to music this can be done while multitasking so its hard to judge how much time is spent only listening to music but its really important for the sake of sanity, it has similar effects of playing video games but its way more effective.

Other i do a lot of things so having an other category is important. visiting your grandma, eating food, and going to the bathroom would all full under this category.

1) Mess is Mine by Vance Joy- I love this song so much.  I just think it’s so beautiful and I listen to it every night before I go to sleep.  The lyrics really speak to me because they remind me of my best friend and a special boy in my life.  My friend has been really struggling with depression but I made sure she knew that her mess is mine.  For that special boy he knows how much I care for him and I am always there to listen.

2) Drag Me Down by One Direction- To me this song reminds me of my relationship with God.  He is always there for me and when I know that he believes in me “nobody can drag me down”.  

3) SummerThing! by Afrojack- This song is another reference to that special boy in my life.  We met in the summer and he is very important to me.  Although he goes to Paul Smiths we still keep in contact and are there for each other.

4) I Would Do Anything for You by Foster the People- In the past I have had relationships but definitely right now “I’ve fallen in love and it’s better this time than ever before”.

5) Someone New by Hozier- I really relate to this song right now because since moving to college everyday I get to meet new people and I absolutely love doing that.  

6) See you Again by Wiz Khalifa- This song reminds me of my grandfather who passed away a year ago.  He was always a huge part in my life and even though he isn’t here physically he still is here spiritually.  

7) Someone Big by Shawn Mendes-This song relates to my mental state as I enter college.  I’m ready for my life to start and something big to happen.

8) DONTTRUSTME by 3OH!3- This song reminds me of my childhood because I would always sing it with my brother and sister and as I start college nostalgia is a big thing.

9) Life of the Party by Shawn Mendes - This song is so pretty and I love the message and I try to live by it.  Since I’ve been in school i’ve been trying to take risks and “be the life of the party”.

10) Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen - Queen is my absolute favorite and will always be my favorite.  Whenever this song comes on I have to belt it out and dance.  This song represents how I love to sing and dance.

11) This is Gospel by Panic! At The Disco- This song is my jam and I love belting it out.  I also bonded over our love for this band with my now best friend Taylor who lives across the hall in lima.

It’s kinda like a message that says forget you, I’m not dealing with your bullshit anymore because at the end of the day, you f***ed me over and now I’m doing better than you are and you want me back in your life??? Like IDFWU💯

8- Power Trip by J. Cole: Going through girl troubles, this one girl had me up all night contemplating and stressing over the bullshit she pulls. I still found myself attracted to her knowing she was tearing me apart mentally. Eventually, I got over her and moved on. Her loss😂

9- Wet Dreamz by J. Cole: This song brings me back to when I was in the 10th grade when my crush was in my math class. The beginning of this song pretty much described my entire situation with the good. too bad it didn’t end the way it did for Jermaine Cole😍😔

1) One Time for Your Mind, this song is by nas he wrote a lot of this album when he was 18 so it directly relates to being 18 in america but its his version of his life.

2) It Ain’t Hard to Tell, this song is also by nas and its on the same album as the last song illmatic. he once again is talking about his life but he's touching more on his traits himself, mostly bragging about himself like most rappers do 

3) N.Y. State of Mind is the third song and it is also on illmatic. these song were easy to pick for this because its all about him and his life and mainly at the age of 18 so i found it relating to, the what its like to be 18 in america, just his version. N.Y. State of Mind is almost how he sees new york or what new york makes him think of, mostly selling drugs, crimes like robberies and murder, but also its how he's dealing with it.

4) Excursions by A Tribe Called Quest is the fourth song for multiple reasons, one being he starts of the song by saying “back in the days when i was a teenager” its fitting with the theme of this post so far and the theme of this class, He talks about his life when he was a teenager. Also this song provides culture to all you people who have never heard a jazzy rappers their amazing it sounds like no other rap.

5) Fuck With Dre by Dr Dre is the last song i have on here. for starters its the perfect song to end with because he's throwing shade in all directions with snoop dog. although its the first song on his album it ends this mixtape perfectly. Dr Dre is dissing easy e and ice cube with some really funny clever rhymes. This is also the start of Snoops and Dre’s relation ship that changed everything.

Infinite Possiblities

currently the list of things i am afraid of is longer then usual. it mostly consists of things that have to do with college as opposed to natural fears like the dark, bees, or spiders, spiders would be an example of that i don’t like them they are gross and explode babies. Anyway… today i came into this class late its a fear of mine, i don’t want to be late i dread it, but sometimes your life sucks because you make bad decisions so its your own fault you need to fess up, catch up, and keep going. the past is the past the future holds infinite possibilities, i try to tell myself that often for i always find my self drowning in self reflection, unnecessary self reflection. I’m always trying to learn from my mistakes and the mistakes of others in the hopes i don’t make them or make them again. i wouldn’t say being late is what i fear the most thats ridiculous and childish my fears come from a much deeper place, my greatest fear has to be the unknown because like i said the future holds infinite possibilities many things we don’t know until they are measured thus deeming anything possible, i remember reading about scientist discovering a planet made up of what they think 95% diamond before it was measured it didn’t exist to anyone. Now if someone could travel light years away to access such things they would be the richest man alive a line from nas should help me to get to where I’m going, “every dog has its day and all the wrong doers have it coming back around at them ten fold”.
