who ? open [ 0 / 3 ]. where ? south side; serenity lake lodge. when ? 8:30 a.m., three days after the group's return to stonehaven.
the lodge is still picture perfect where it sits, perched on the edge of serenity lake, the weathered wood almost glowing in the morning light. he's dragged himself out here early—well, early by his standards. despite how exhausted his body is, his mind won't let him sleep, and so grey leans against the edge of the dock, one sneaker skimming the still, glassy water. the structure groans at the movement, but the lake doesn't ripple, doesn't move—not even when he trails his worn out converse along the surface. it's eerie, that unnatural calm, and he'd be half-convinced to take a dive if he wasn't worried the water would pull him under. he flips the yo-yo in his hand, the string slicing through the air with sharp, satisfying snaps that help fight the restlessness. it's the only sound for a while, blending with the rustle of trees, until the dock suddenly creaks behind him. the noise pulls grey upright, yo-yo halting mid-spin as his fingers tighten around it, bringing it home. his heart skips—not with fear exactly, but with the sharp prickle of anxiety that’s become second nature these past few days. he doesn't turn, not yet. "if you're thinking about a swim, i wouldn't recommend it."
there was one word that came to mind whenever adonis thought about the recent happenings in stonehaven, and it was: why? how did one trip determine who disappeared, and who stayed? now, the silence in the town was deafening. despite it being small, there was still life to it. all the hustle and bustle throughout every corner until the sun came down was something he had missed already. there was a new normal he had to adjust to. these past few days, he spent extra time on his runs looking for means of an opening, but no luck. they were trapped. unless there were ways to get rid of the vines, there was no way out. he was taking a small detour today, stopping by at the lodge looking out at the water. typically there was no time for stops, but he thought it would be nice to sit here for a little while. as he was making his way to the edge of the dock, he notices that the person with him was someone he knew. ❛❛ fifty bucks says i can and will do a lap in under ten minutes, ❜❜ he jokes, making himself comfortable beside the other and patting him on the shoulder. ❛❛ how are we doing today, bro? i didn't really peg you as an early bird, otherwise i would've had you run with me. ❜❜
where: riverbend diner who: open
he worked at a diner back in his hometown. a spot a little less friendly and with a touch more grime. the vinyl booths cracked, the waitstaff smelling of smoke breaks and grease, the fluorescent sign fading one vowel at a time. it was second nature to drop a basket of curly fries into the fryer, watch them sizzle and then sling them onto a plate. he lit the burners, found an eighties soundtrack on the jukebox and slid into one of the empty booths. he was a third of plate in, contemplating cheese sauce when her heard the door slid open. he leaned in his seat with a crooked smile before saying, "if you've come looking for curly fries you're out of luck. i got dibs."
when adonis and his father first moved into stonehaven seven months ago, they spent every saturday night at riverbend diner. so today, he wanted to commemorate that. as he made his way into the diner with his milkshake flavored protein shake in hand, he is immediately surprised by the unexpected company. ❛❛ is that what i'm smelling right now? damn noah, you couldn't save some for the rest of us? ❜❜ he laughs at his own joke before jumping over the counter to grab an empty cup for his shake. ❛❛ i better see my chicken tenders in the freezer. you want some? ❜❜
starter : open [ 0 / 6 ] location : stonehaven public library
camilla is used to having answers ... not question, solutions. the longer she finds herself stuck in this place, the harder she's finding it to remain composed and calm. books are scattered across the desk in the library, half opened to random pages, others with her writing in the margins ( who was going to stop her from writing in the books? it's not like they had anyone to provide proper discipline ); answers lingered in the background, while more questions simply arised. she doesn't hear the other coming, nor does she hear them trying to capture her attention, solely focused on the task at hand and blocking out any noise from the outside. it's not until someone leans next to her that her body jumps, “ ⸻ jesus ... christ. don't sneak up on me like that, ” a beat. “ what do you want ? ”
he was getting back from his morning run, deciding to make a stop at the library nearby to pick up old books for the fireplace at the house. there was a book he read in high school about that . . . but the intentions were far from the plot. the books were for children, where the pages were covered with pictures and three words in one page. after compiling a good collection in his hands, his eyes caught the attention of a familiar figure sitting behind one of the desks. now with piqued interest, he walks closer to her until he's towering behind, curiously peeking until — a reaction. ❛❛ my bad, thought you heard me back there, ❜❜ adonis laughs sheepishly before glancing at his pile. damn, she probably thought he was a dumbass who enjoyed reading kids books for fun. ❛❛ what're you up to, anyway? don't tell me you gave yourself homework, c. ❜❜
who : mariana + anyone. where : cypress general store status : [ open ]
the shelves of cypress general store were a skeleton of what they once were … half empty rows of canned goods, and a few dusty flashlights no one had thought to grab yet. "beans, beans, beans," mari muttered under her breath, holding up a can of pork stew with a grimace. "this is it? seriously?" she groaned, louder than anticipated. "i'm supposed to survive on this?" the crate rattled as she dug deeper, her frustration bubbling over. she didn’t even know why she cared so much, eating pescatarian felt like a silly hill to die on in, well, wherever the hell she was. but then again the thought of canned meat turned her stomach. as she reached for another dented tin, a faint creak from the floorboards made her freeze. slowly, she looked up, her pulse skipping when she spotted a shadow looming over her. "god— are you crazy? ring a bell or something, don't just sneak up on people."
despite the increasing scarcity of everything around him, adonis liked to keep his health and fitness regimen the same. workouts were easy to maintain, but his diet? the lack of natural protein sources were definitely the challenge. thankfully, with his collection of different powders and bars ( all thanks to previous social media sponsorships ) he was . . . getting by. today, with his free time, he decided to switch it up and see what he could collect from a trip to the store. as he was scanning through the nutritional label of a dehydrated meat stick, his head instantly perks up at the sound of a familiar voice a few aisles over. he follows, and the corner of his lips quirk at the reaction. ❛❛ you know if you really wanted to sneak past the man-eating aliens, you wouldn't be crying about — ❜❜ his eyes travel to the can she's holding, ❛❛ porked stew. you should be thankful that i'm here. wait, can i get a protein check on that? 'cause i'll actually trade you with a can of sardines i got at my place. ❜❜
( michael evans behling. cisgender male. he/him. ) did you hear? ADONIS MOORE is stuck in stonehaven for the for the foreseeable future … they've lived here for SEVEN MONTHS and are known around town as THE JERK JOCK, though back in high school they were better known for being voted MOST DOMINANT ON THE FIELD. if i'm not mistaken, they’re a TWENTY-FOUR year old senior studying KINESIOLOGY ( i really hope that translates well into their role as a CRAFTSMAN in the ‘new world' ). according to my records they were originally on the trip because he simply thought it would be fun ( and it gave him a chance to impress others ) — which checks out, given they’re DEBONAIR, IMPRESSIONABLE and HAUGHTY. if you’re ever trying to find them, your best bet is to start at evergreen trails and listen for someone humming pink + white by frank ocean. oh, and don’t forget to try calling out nino or picturing the wind tickling your skin after a morning run, an empty field with an abundance of opportunities that lay ahead, and the burning desire to be someone greater for extra help. let's hope the chaos doesn't get to them …
