Audio Interface Shootout
We shot out the Apogee Duet iOS, Steingberg UR22, Focusrite Forte, and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, the UR22 came in 2nd place (behind the Duet iOS).
Recording Bass Guitar
The easiest bass I've ever mixed is a J Bass (all knobs up) through an Avalon U5 with the low pass engaged and set to the lowest tone setting. No further EQ necessary, just get the level and dynamics right and it's perfect every time.
Acrylic instruments

I'm about 25 years too late with this, but how is acrylic for basses and guitars? I'm thinking I might like to get a chunk of 1.5" clear acrylic to make my next bass.
It's extremely heavy. People make the mistake of trying to make strat and Ibanez RG body shapes with it, which really doesn't work because they're rather thick and thus weigh a ton. If you make the body thin and use a hard tail bridge, you could get a useable instrument out of it. FWIW, acrylic is awesome for drums.
