Stop and smell the lavender
This weekend, Chris and I are spending the weekend at the Finger Lakes Lavender Festival. While the festival is celebrating its eighth year, Chris has been showing his photography since 2012. The festival has all the right ingredients for a great weekend outing - here’s why.
Location, location, location. The Finger Lakes Lavender Festival is hosted by Lockwood Lavender Farm, a 120 acre working family farm in the Finger Lakes. While at the festival, attendees and vendors alike enjoy the sights and smells of beautiful fields of lavender overlooking Skaneateles Lake. And minutes outside the village of Skaneateles, thr festival is an easy drive from much of central New York.
Support local. In addition to the opportunity to partake in u-pick lavender, attend workshops and demonstrations, browse the farm’s lavender market, and enjoy photo opportunities galore, the festival offers an array of local artisans selling fine arts and crafts. The number of vendors grows each year, and this year’s festival features over two dozen artists and crafters and several culinary specialists, all of whom make their own goods or are locally-owned businesses. Family atmosphere. Drawn by beautiful lavender in a picturesque setting, the festival attracts groups of families and friends seeking a unique summer outdoor experience. In fact, many of the attendees who stop by Chris’ tent visit the festival every year. On the vendor side, while the list of artisans continues to grow each year, the continuity from year to year has formed a sense of community among the group.
