Happy International Men's day to men who are born men, who have deep loud voices, who don't speak softly, who are assertive, who have a normal reasonable temper like everyone else but are perceived as a threat when they get mad. Men who are intimidating, men who aren't soft or very gentle because the world isn't. Men who have a normal, common body type and build. Men who don't fall into either the hyper aggressive reactionary male archetype or the overly soft modern male archetype.

I don't know if it's still true but in the 2000s, we worked out you could get a solid C on a history GCSE if you just understood how to analyse sources. Knowing nothing about the facts, just being able to read and interpret what is in front of you. In theory you could have studied Germany in WWI and squeak a pass on an exam about the English Civil War.

At the time I thought it was absurd. Looking now at how many people have zero understanding of sources (doing things like uncritically repeating trolls/satire accounts, or not understanding a piece has an agenda), frankly I think it should have got you a B.

When my wife went in for surgery before we got married, it was me and her horrifically homophobic mother in the surgery center waiting room and I knew without a doubt that if anything went wrong, I would be expected to leave without any access to her belongings, the pictures of us on her phone, or the funeral itself, and the obituary would not mention me or our relationship at all.

And that was after almost a decade of marriage equality! The fear and anxiety leading up to that surgery and the recovery process after reinforced for me just how important marriage can be. It’s a form of self-determination.

So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.

TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.

They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”

And it fucking worked.

TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.

So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.

For the past 4 months l’ve been applying for jobs on indeed I make up the qualifications they ask for and on paper, I’m the perfect candidate but in reality, I don’t really exist.

Why do I do this? Well, I like to dress up, and it feels like a real sense of occasion. I get to have a nice day out and visit new places. I go to the barbers get a clean shave, grab breakfast and coffee I feel great and look great.

I walk into the interview room perfectly calm because I’m not worried about getting the job and I completely flip the script what benefits does the company provide? Why should I work there? How are you competitive to other businesses in the area?

The reactions I get range from confusion to interviewers convincing me that I should work there.

Then I drop the bombshell. When it comes to the salary talk I always say it’s not really competitive in today’s market I then look impatient thank them for their time and I just walk out of the door.

A few times now l’ve had emails asking me in for another interview stating that the salary is now all of a sudden negotiable.

I’m pretty sure there is something wrong with me.

I’m also sure that the next person that goes for the interview is going to have a much better experiance.

And no l’m not worried about the repercussions I don’t need a job l’m a full-time mature student at the moment and I intend to emigrate once I get my degree.” End ID]
