Just Finished Watching My Second Tutorial video

So in one of my previous posts I linked the main guides that I will be starting out with, the second guide video that Barnacules made is about random number generation and ways in which these random numbers can be implemented into programming. The video was very interesting and had a lot to take in, but doing all of the programming alongside the video appears to be a must, as you can experience it for yourself.

A/N I’m still unsure what I should be posting on this blog, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. I think part of it is so that whatever comes of this endeavor, I will have something to show, regardless of whether I manage to make it into games design, or crash and burn spectacularly.

First Experience With C#

Alright, with that introduction out of the way, I can actually get into the interesting part of the blog. So First off, a little backstory into how I picked C# as my initial programming language. I recently attended an open day at Salford University, I had initially thought that my little experience in games design would be enough for me to get into a video games design course, but now I have realized that I need to do some learning on my own first.

So C# (Pronouned C-sharp just for reference). I downloaded the Microsoft Visual basic program, which contains C#, and many other cool tools. Which you can Download Here.

After setting up the install and getting it running, the first thing I did was find YouTube videos to teach the very basics of C#, This guy makes good videos and is the reference point that I will be using until I have learned everything that his C# videos teach, he worked for Microsoft in the past, which is pretty brilliant.

Upon starting in C#, the first thing I realized was that my experience with Python would help a little, but only so much, following the guides of the first instructional video I watched, I picked up the knowledge quickly. 

One very useful trick I have learned is that doing a // before a line of code will make it a comment, meaning that it will not affect the program when you run it, but it is great for adding context to lines of code, or from temporarily excluding lines.

First Post

This is just an obligatory first post to explain the point of this blog and some other topics.

Alright so hey, I’m James, I’m looking at getting into games design and plan on going to university in the future to get a degree in such. 

Currently I only have a small amount of experience in this area which I got through a portion of my General IT college course. This experience is in Python for programming and Flash for the other design parts. So I’m going to dive straight into the more interesting programs head first and see what comes of it. I’ll be starting off with C# in MS visual Basic and we can see where it goes from there.

This blog serves two purposes; firstly to document my experience and progress with learning these cool new things, and secondly to give other people the opportunity to follow this progress and maybe learn alongside me.

I will be sure to share any resources that I use so that you can use them too.
