Things That Bother Me About Star Trek #1
#1 ā No Toilets in Space
The lack of toilets in Star Trek has bothered me since the original series. How do people in the future go to the bathroom? What does a futuristic toilet look like? How do the various aliens get rid of bodily waste?
Even in Star Trek Online, I can't find a toilet anywhere in the game. There is a room on board the ship in the Captain's quarters that seems like it should be a bathroom or closet, but there is nothing in there.
No one is ever in the bathroom when the Red Alert alarm sounds. I find this unlikely. From my personal experience, a lot of emergencies break out when you're in the bathroom.
How do these officers in Star Trek get promoted, demoted, and promoted again? And how do they not get transferred to a supply depot on Pluto to sit around where they can't get into trouble until they retire?
Most people I've run across, if they do something bad enough to get demoted, it's usually bad enough that the job just fires them instead.
#3 ā Does Anyone Retire?
Why is Starfleet always calling retired officers? Is the personnel develop so poor that the younger officers are not as trained and experienced?
I've not known anyone who retired and the old place of work calls them āHey, we have this dangerous thing only you know how to do, come on in for a while!ā
