DeForest at Star Trek conventions. He sure loved that black Art Deco-y Greyhound shirt— he’s wearing it at three different conventions.

I took the first photo in-person from the very front row. Back then seats were first come, first served (in later years, you had to pay $100 extra to get into the the first 35 rows— though they were at least reserved). My friend and I traded off for 5 hours to keep the seats (one of us cruised through the convention, the other seat-sat until the cast came out). De looked really great in his white jeans. In this photo, he’s talking about the possibility of a Star Trek movie (the first one was still a few years away).

In the second photo (which I didn’t take) at a different convention, De is getting instructions about where to go once he comes off the stage. I had volunteered at this convention and was sitting at the table where they were talking (imagine my luck to get that assignment). I didn’t even want to blink so as not to miss a second of him so close to me. While De was listening to the guy, he glanced at me and smiled. I thought I’d fall under the table. When De came off stage, he walked by and smiled and waved at the three of us at the table. I thought I would lose my mind.

In the last photo (again, a different Con) De has just come on stage and is just about to lift his right hand to spread his fingers into the Vulcan salute. He always did this (which brought down the house). A friend took this photo in Baltimore, Maryland. She said De talked a lot about his wife Carolyn during his time on stage. Awwww.
