lilith spent most of her time in the garden, away from everyone else. it felt like that's what was better -- she wasn't...

even if she was what remained. the things done would always be a weight on her shoulders, overtaken with guilt and regret. there was permanent harm done -- there were things done she couldn't ever make up for.

she remembers how things used to be. she deserved the lack of trust. she asked too many questions, wanted to know too many things. that curiosity came at a heavy cost.

lilith closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. she would have done everything differently if she had known.

she hums softly as she tends to the flowers -- lilith jumps slightly at the appearance of magnus. they hadn't interacted much since her return, so of course she's surprised at the sight of him. she blinks a few times as he speaks before she begins to frown. at first, she doesn't know what to say, still reeling from his appearance and his words.

"you..." she starts, hesitating, "it's not your fault."

a sorrow had burrowed its way deep inside him, it still hadn't been extracted as tired, grief-stricken eyes met hers. it's still so strange, seeing what should have been.

"i thought that there was something off about you, but i didn't trust in myself to ask if you needed help. i distrusted you and myself, and for that i'm sure my inaction did not aid you in your time of need." he'd had a lot of time to reflect. too much, perhaps.

"it may not be my fault but i did not do everything that i could have done for you, and for that i am sorry. you deserved a better friend than i was back then."

but nothing could change what has already happened. "you're different now. in a good way," he assured. "you're still you in the ways that matter, and i'm relieved to see you again."
