Happy Holidays,
y’all need to STOP BEING RUDE TO PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW THINGS. If you want to help the animal and their keeper, do so politely, or not at all. You only harm them both when you send hate or make thoughtless comments.
It’s the holidays, guys. Please, remember to keep your pets, and fellow pet owners, happy and safe. It’s a time for joy and a great opportunity for pictures, so let’s just better educate what is and isn’t safe.
WHATS BAD:
•loose glitter (on ornaments, sprinkled around, on wreaths, etc.)- causes respiratory issues
•scented objects- respiratory issues
•pine, pine cones- toxic
•candles, fireplaces, anything relating to smoke- respiratory issues. They only have one, primitive lung, and no diaphragm, so they can’t cough. Smoke inhalation will kill.
•tape- can stick to and rip off scales.
•ornament hooks- can cause injury
WHATS OKAY:
•I’ve had issues with substances like pillow fibers and halloween “spider webs” and them getting caught in snake scales, so make sure the fiber is coarse and thick, not soft and thin, or it can get caught on them. better to not do it if you so much as question it’s safety.
•lights- keep an eye on how hot they’re getting and make sure to keep your snake largely off of them, if possible. Be especially cautious with glass bulbs, and ensure all lights/prongs are working or covered. The filament from a broken light can shock or cut your snake.
•ornaments- avoid glass, in my opinion, especially if you have them on a raised surface. snakes are jerks, and like to knock things off.
WHATS GOOD:
•blankets, flannel, ugly sweaters
•tinsel garlands, or just tinsel
•plastic, metal, or any ornaments that can take a fall
•stockings
•fake trees (just make sure you keep an eye on their climbing! they are klutzy.)
•stuffed animals
•wrapping paper, or gift boxes lacking tacky substances/tape
•fake pine wreaths, or, ribbon, flower, etc. wreaths
•menorahs SO LONG AS the candles have been removed/replaced (never used, unlit) OR have electric candles
•dreidels
•tree skirts (that haven’t been used with a live tree), table cloths, etc.
•hats!
And that’s all I can think of! If you have something to add, or questions, let me know! Happy holidays everyone!
the witching hour approaches
