Thank you for notifying me! I like to take people at face value and try to look for ages on blogs and make it VERY clear that I am uncomfortable interacting with minors in any sort of, especially given the fandoms and content I'm connected to. I guess the assumption that most would respect that basic boundary is something I need to be a lot more pessimistic about. I like supporting artists, writers and other creators across a lot of topics, often ones that are very sensitive or otherwise very inappropriate for minors to be interacting with.

The Freak Circus is an adult game for those over the age of 18. I do not want to interact with minors with this fandom at all, that is a hard boundary and I make that abundantly clear.

I can't control other people on the internet and I don't inherently think minors should mark their blogs as such (that is something very dangerous, never mark yourself like that as there are people who will try to target) but god, that makes it so hard to feel comfortable to interact with random fans. Tiktok was bad enough, though it's not at all a far toss for tumblr and twitter to be the same.

It's just.... disheartening, especially when I just assume people will 'follow the rules' and I know that's just a strong aspect of my autism (and yes, I know it comes off very naive of me, but that's just the internet culture I grew up with).

So, going forward, I am not going to be directly interacting with people unless you have a clear age or some other indication of your age on your blog as being an adult. I cannot afford to have anything to do with minors in TFC for so SO many reasons— it is incredibly dangerous, uncomfortable, and arguably disrespectful since me and the rest of the TFC team have not at all made it a secret that we are adults and this is a game for adults.

Well that's incredibly disrespectful. I'll try to look into this if there is something that needs to be done in regards to protecting Neko's copyright.

Suffice to say that is not authorized at all and that is... I'm a little appalled by the nerve and the balls on whomever is behind that.

If you're that shallow-hearted to think this is appropriate in any form, quite literally trying to rip the game's narrative and story away from the creator who is actively pouring hundreds of hours of his time into this, then I really would prefer you not be in the TFC community at all.

Edit/Addition: If anyone is familiar with this upload or where it was uploaded and can kindly request it to be taken down, I would appreciate it, I'd love to give someone the benefit of the doubt and hope that this is just a vast misunderstanding of what is appropriate for a fandom to create while an indie game is in active development.

I understand that it can be difficult to get in touch with me for permission. I've been spending less time online lately while focusing heavily on every step of this update. In fact, just yesterday I was still working on the update until 10:30 PM, and this was one of the first things I saw when I finally stopped for the day, so I won't lie it left me with a bit of a bitter feeling.

That said, I'm not against fan games! And I definitely don't want any kind of witch hunt directed at anyone. I'm happy to see that there was no bad intention behind this.

Please understand that making fan games is completely fine, but it's important to respect the work of the original creators. Personally, I ask that my official artwork and sprites not be used. I also ask that fan games clearly credit the original game, clearly state that they are fan projects, and avoid titles that could be mistaken for official content. For example, a title such as "Day 3" could easily make people think it is an official continuation. Something like "Headcanon," "Fan Story," or another label that makes it clear it is a fan-made project would help avoid confusion!

Unfortunately, when people don't realize something is a fan game, I'm often the one who receives, complaints, or confusion about it... And since The Freak Circus is a free game, I would also appreciate fan games remaining free as well.

I truly appreciate the concern shown and the apology that was offered. I don't think the game needs to be deleted. I simply ask that these details be handled more carefully in the future.

Those small considerations are what make a creator look at a fan project and see something made with love, while also feeling that their work and boundaries are being respected.

For those of you who were concerned about this, I’m happy to say things seemed to be worked out without any malice or issue— Neko put the situation into words so well, especially the importance of labeling fan gams AS fan games since, like many people, I took the ‘Day 3’ title quite literally and I would have absolutely taken offense to that myself.

The context does help and while it was still a stressful situation in general for everyone, it’s good to know this is a situation where communication and giving people grace worked out the best! <3

TikTok and a few other forums (even some blogs/youtubers) are CONSTANTLY spreading misinformation about the game, especially in regards to the release date or the character's being related by blood (they aren't). As of now, there is no set time for day3, but any updates will be found on Neko's Patreon or HERE first!

I understand frustration behind the lack of both a response from smg4 and acknowledgment in Cube’s response. And they have the right to block whoever the hell they want. However,

You want Glitch to talk to you directly, yet you take legal action making it impossible to communicate with you normally. You say you’re not trying to make them delete everything, yet you send a cease and desist. You say how this has been taxing on your mental health, yet you keep digging your own hole!

like no matter the outcome, things don’t look good for you because you wanted to be petty over one of the most common character design tropes of modern times. If you loose you’d have forced yourself through all of that for nothing and you’ll have to face the music (Of which people were trying to respectfully TELL YOU ABOUT btw). and if you win (which I doubt) you would have forced an indie animation studio that’s already been through enough bullshit to re-work their main character’s design, AND fueled the flames of the people you were harassing you in the first place.

A response from Glitch and/or Zam was never the problem and it certainly wasn’t plagiarism. It was harassment. And Mod doesn’t seem to realize that.
