I missed paying my bill by thirty minutes and my power was shut off. I thought there was a grace period for this kind of shit.
Been there before. And they don’t care, they will definitely shut it off. but sometimes if you call before the deadline and plead with them, they will give you an extension. But when it shut off, they will just say there is nothing they can do and hang up. Were you able to get it back on?
Julia was hungry and tired from running errands all day. Today was her day off, but it didn’t feel like it. She was lucky that her uncle let her use his old pick up truck, so she can get to where she needs to go. She could have just went back to her uncle’s house and fixed something to eat there, but she didn’t want to be an inconvenience. She always felt like she was in the way. She pulled over and parked the huge truck, looking for a place to grab a bite. Seeing that she had a few dollars in her wallet, she got out and walked into Mayo Bros Sandwich, hoping to get a sandwich and a bottle of water. Just something to hold her until dinner. When it was her turn to order, she smiled at the cashier, and placed her order. “Yes, can I have the cheapest sandwich you make? I’ll take literally anything. And a glass of water please.”

This small-paced town is one I’m familiar with. There are new buildings and people but it’s still the same town underneath. I moved away when I was in high school and come back periodically for holidays. I moved back recently to help my parents out.
Why did you go down that path?
I”m still getting use to this. I’m used to busy streets and loud noises. It’s so quiet here at nights. How are you adjusting? I mean even though you have lived here, for most of your life, and left and lived in the city for a bit, did your have to adjust to being back in the small town fully?
Stability. My parents always told me that I had to have a job that was guaranteed work. And there is always a need for nurses. Plus, I love helping people. What do you do for a living?

Yikes, it would be a pretty penny to keep that thing rolling.
It would, so right now, my uncle is letting me use his car, until I can get a car of my own. It’s not new, but it’s something.

It is. But I most likely will need a new car soon. My car os 25 years old an is on it’s last leg.

They told me and was very kind and generous with me. Are you used to long hours?

They told you to leave or you left because you wanted? I’ve lived in London, Chicago, New York, Milan, Austin, Orlando and the most recent LA. I don’t stay in one place too long. There’s far too much of the world to see to sit on your ass and keep to one spot.
Where do you work?
I left because I wanted to. It was the best decision for me at the time. I’m from New York and I sure do miss it. But it seems like you have lived an exciting life. Moving from big city to big city. So I guess a small paced town would eventually make your list. At least so you can just relax a bit.

No, I’m good. Al garages helped me and towed my car and made sure I got home. But thanks for the concern.

Yeah, a paramedic. I pull a lot of 24 on, 24-48 off. You don’t get the shitty shifts these days? How’d you get so lucky?
I still get them. But not as much as most people think. I only pull those numbers when we are severely short staffed. How do you like being a paramedic?

It was more out of obligation than a choice. Family has a way of grabbing you by the balls and yanking you back in. I do miss the city. I miss many cities. What do you like about this one, Jules?
Ohh, I know how that goes. I’m the opposite though. Family caused me to leave for somewhere less populated where I don’t know anyone but my cousin and uncle. What other cities have you lived? I just like the fact that it’s small and that my coworkers are great and that I was able to get a job pretty fast.
So I picked up a few extra shifts at work and it seems like I’ve been working for 72 hours straight instead of 24. Now I’m off, but my car broke down so I’m waiting for Al’s to come and help me with it when all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep.
Between going on vacation and getting the flu, I haven’t been around. What has everyone been up to?

Ugh my head! It’s like 100 little Oompa Loompas dancing on my brain, scream-singing one of their cautionary tale songs, only this one’s not about chocolate rivers or blueberry girls - it’s about me and how I can’t hold my liquor anymore.
We all have done this. Have you tried any hangover cures?
