Any good MattElektra fic recs?

I do, I do!!

I get pretty bummed out that this ship doesn’t have the quantity of fic that it deserves, but I do have to say that when people end up writing for it, it’s mad quality. Here are some of my personal favorites that span the range of fluff to angst to smut so…yeah, a little bit of something for everyone LOL:

Escalation by marmolita – Matt and Elektra have sex in the university library. That’s pretty much it. …yup, she’s right, it is. But damn it, I have a weakness for sexy smutty college!Matt and Elektra fluff and this really hits the spot. May I suggest pairing it with the fic immediately below to get a really good college!Matt and Elektra fix :D?

In Blood and Breath (and Bone) by significantowl – It won’t be long now - she’s on the stairs. Her feet are light and quick; her heart’s thrumming fast. Elektra’s blood has become part of his lexicon, a new point of reference for words like dazzling. For bright. @significantowl​ writes for so many ships but whenever she writes for Matt and Elektra my heart does a double flip and my mouth lets out a lot of squeeing sounds. This one is more pure, sexy college fluff and I love it to pieces. 

Test Drive by Julia_Fractal – “Let’s go Matthew,” Elektra says after downing his drink in one long swallow. It’s a command, an invitation, and a challenge rolled into one, and Matt is happy to accept. A new favorite and if you haven’t been able to tell, I’m a sucker for College Matt and Elektra! This one imagines what happens after Elektra and Matt leave the Columbia party. I don’t think I have to warn you that sexy shenanigans soon follow??

Same Time Tomorrow by significantowl – Matt doesn’t let Elektra touch his stupid tie, not this time. She’s already wrapped around him almost everywhere it counts… Ummm, I am unabashedly in love with this one. It’s filthy-sexy-but-oh-so-much-fun kink that spins off of the events of DD 2x06…it was one of the first Mattelektra fics I read on AO3 and remains a fav :D.

Supernova by Magical_Destiny – Her problem, Elektra thinks, is always wanting too much. She’s a fire that burns too hot and fierce — and fire consumes. A painful but wonderful fic that fills in some of the emotional beats of the Matt/Elektra relationship in DDS2. 

Out Of The Miry Clay by marmolita – AU from the finale where Matt dies instead of Elektra, and gets resurrected by The Hand. This is super dark but interesting spin of the DDS2 finale, being one of the first role reversal fics out there prior to uptick in role reversal fics that came out post-Defenders. It’s a bloody and violent Matt POV so if that’s not your thing, best to avoid. But it’s violently bittersweet if that makes sense?

The Legless Dancer by Katbelle – Dancing is in her blood the same way fighting is. Not completely Matt/Elektra but a gorgeously written piece that explores Elektra’s life. A worthy read!

Half Goddess, Half Hell by extasiswings – The woman in white calls her the Black Sky, tells her she is everything, treats her like a daughter and a weapon in turns. A beautiful fic that explores Elektra’s post-resurrection POV up to Defenders 1x06. 

Absolution by extasiswings – In this universe, Matt is both a lawyer and a SHIELD agent, at first undercover within Fisk’s organization (inspired by Murderdock in SpiderGwen universe). Elektra is the leader of her own organized crime operation (the Hand), and her alias is Black Sky. She and Matt end up working together to take down Fisk, Matt gets new orders to stay undercover within the Hand, and eventually things just happen. As they do. An organized crime AU oneshot (meant to be one in a series of oneshots) that’s deliciously well-written. @extasiswings​ creates such wonderfully specific worlds with her words and er, consider this my not so subtle plea for you to add more to this universe again in the future :D??

A Little Misbehaving by silbecoo aka thekastlediaries – Matt Murdock is a lonely single parent, struggling to figure out what makes his six year old daughter happy, and Elektra is her new teacher, set on using some unorthodox methods to shake up Matt’s conventional ideas. Only one chapter and it may stay that way but I still love it so much and want to share it? Because Matt as a single dad and Elektra being his daughter’s unconventional Catholic school teacher is just so ripe for some fun storytelling! And because I’m mutuals with Beth, I just want her to know that I would love for her to dip a toe back into Mattelektra waters any time she wants :D.

Jagged Little Pieces (Matt/Foggy, Past Matt/Elektra)

During the few hours of fitful sleep he gets, Matt dreams in red.  

“Yeah, I killed your old man.  I killed lots of fathers,” Sweeney boasts.  “And now I know your name, nothing’ll stop me from bloodying the street with your corpse!”

Standing before the ugly mobster, Matt is a child again.  Shivering and bereft in that alleyway as he clutches his father’s dead body.  Only this time he’s not alone.  He’s got Elektra beside him, and he’s shaking not out of fear, but rage.  He has to reach up to throw the first punch, but it’s a solid upper-cut and lands on Sweeney’s jaw with a satisfying crack.

“Yes!” Elektra murmurs in his ear, “Do it again!”  Matt lets out a roar and unleashes blow after blow, feeling himself growing taller with every punch.  In his dream Matt has the satisfaction of seeing the smirk he pummels off of Sweeney’s face, the bloody rivulets his fists create in glorious shades of red.  By the end he’s the one towering over Sweeney, and the man is reduced to a pulpy mess that seems barely alive, barely human.

“Finish him!” Elektra commands, but Matt is suddenly frozen with indecision.  Elektra huffs a sigh of impatience and steps in, her hands wrapping around the back of Sweeney’s head, his blood staining her nails dark red.  There’s a sharp snap as his neck breaks, and Roscoe Sweeney disintegrates into dust as his body falls.

“See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?” Elektra asks.  Now there’s only the two of them, and Matt’s own hearbeat is deafeningly loud in his ears.  Elektra reaches for him, and her hands are suddenly everywhere at once.  Caressing his face, stroking his cock, and scoring deep, deep grooves down Matt’s back that he never wants to heal.

Matt wakes with a start, momentarily surprised not to find Elektra pressed against him, or a dead man’s blood still smeared across his knuckles.  Instead there’s only the morning sun shining into his sightless eyes.  The familiar smells of his dorm room surround him: Library books, unwashed laundry, his and Foggy’s scents mingling inextricably in the air.  Only a few weeks ago, Elektra’s voice had echoed in this very room.  Saying “Σε αγαπώ,” and “Je t’aime,” and “I’ll always love you.” The way she'd whispered "Matthew" had lit a spark deep inside his soul...

She tells him the address over the phone. Matt doesn’t repeat it out loud, but then, he doesn’t need to. It plays on an instant loop in his mind, immediately unforgettable, as he shoves his laptop into his bag, unfurls his cane, and generally hustles out of the law library like he’s just gotten word the building’s on fire.

It’s a doorman building - no surprise there - and Matt waits with a bored, easy smile on his face while the man buzzes Elektra to get the go-ahead to let him up. The doorman insists on walking Matt to the elevators, and Matt pushes the edges of that smile and says, “Just point me in the right direction, please.”

The doorman heeds Matt’s wishes - now that’s actually something of a surprise - and after a three-minute elevator ride that feels interminable, Matt finds himself outside Elektra’s apartment door.

He’d know it without counting the doors; he’d know it without the ADA-compliant Braille placard just to the right of the door. Her scent welcomes him, slips through the cracks in the doorframe just as she had into his heart. Invites him in.

“Matthew! What terrible pants. Do come in. I don’t just tell anyone where I live, you know.”

“I don’t doubt that,” he says, folding up his cane and tossing it onto a table near the door. He means all of it - his pants, along with her circumspection. His trousers are rough, heavy, wrinkled khakis, and the best thing going for them is that they’re clean.

Her kiss betrays her smile. It’s not just a meeting of lips, but a connection of bodies; Elektra’s warm against him, her hips press into his hips, her chest to his chest. It’s the kind of moment that helps him walk back to his dorm at the end of an evening. The sweetness of reunion that makes a farewell bearable.

“Hey,” Matt says, nuzzling against her cheek as they part, “thanks for making a guy feel welcome.”

She laughs. “Tell me what you think of my apartment.”

Tipping his head, Matt takes in currents of air, patterns of sound. High ceilings, airy rooms, discreetly humming appliances in a kitchen that’s probably as large as his and Foggy’s entire dorm room. “Nice place,” he says. “Not that I would expect anything less.”

“Thank you. It’s rather boring, to be honest, but now - “ Elektra pats him on the chest - “you’re here. Would you like a tour?”

“Mm, I don’t know. If it’s so boring, maybe you should just show me your favorite room.”

“Smart boy.” She sounds delighted. “That all depends, doesn’t it? If I’m hungry, it’s the kitchen. If I want to take a hot bath, it’s the bathroom. If I want to go to bed….”

That last one sounded interesting. Matt’s face must speak for him; Elektra laughs, and takes him by the hand.

“Is that right.”

“Yes. I prefer an… uncluttered space.” Her voice curls around the words, warm, teasing - she’s seen his dorm room at its worst. “Anything extraneous simply doesn’t belong.”

“Sounds reasonable.”

Daredevil Reading List

I’ve been getting some questions about what should be read and why something isn’t included, and I’m happy to answer those as they come up, but I think it might be helpful if I supplement my regular posts with reading lists where they’re relevant. 

The goal of my organisation technique is to keep as many books as possible in some sort of reading order. It’s something that I give a lot of thought to and over the last few years I’ve created some reading lists to help other people.

Everyone’s personal reading list will be slightly different, but this is mine. Most of these books can be found on Marvel Comics Unlimited, and the physical formats are described below.

All my reading lists follow the same format and I’ll include the following key with each one.

Bold text: Main Series Normal text: Supplemental CAPITALS: EVENTS/CROSSOVERS Italics: Notes

Daredevil is a character with an abundance of fantastic material, it’s embarrassing really. Everything is broken down by creator and I’ll highlight jumping on points by separating runs into blocks.

Daredevil: Yellow - Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale A great prequel story set during the early days of his career, available in Premier HC, Paperback or the OHC which also contains Spider-Man: Blue and Hulk: Gray

Frank Miller’s Run

This is the Chronological order for Frank Miller’s Daredevil, there is a bit more you can get in a companion book but I don’t want to complicate things too much. This isn’t the order the books were released in and outside of the numbered volumes these books can be read in any order. 

There is an omnibus that collects the numbered volumes and the second collects the supplemental material. There’s also an Elektra Omnibus, all of which are being reprinted for a second time in 2016.

Daredevil: Man Without Fear - Frank Miller & John Romita Jr Elektra: Assassin - Frank Miller & Bill Sienkiewicz Daredevil Volume 1 - Frank Miller Daredevil Volume 2 - Frank Miller Daredevil Volume 3 - Frank Miller Daredevil: Born Again - Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli Elektra Lives Again - Frank Miller

Ann Nocenti had a good run on Daredevil, but only some of it has been collected in trades, the full issues are 236, 238–245, 247–257, 259-291, 500. This is the time to read those issues if you’re interested. The most notable volume is probably Typhoid Mary with John Romita Jr. An Epic Collection for this run has been solicited for January 2016.

Daredevil V1: Guardian Devil - Kevin Smith & Joe Quesada Daredevil V2: Parts of a Hole - David Mack & Joe Quesada

I wouldn’t miss these volumes as there are some big developments, a character is introduced who returns later, and the art is fantastic.

Brian Bendis’ Run

These volumes are collected in two out of print Omnibus editions, five oversized hardcovers (V2-6), three Ultimate Collection paperbacks, and the individual volumes listed below. 

Daredevil V3: The Wake - Brian Bendis & David Mack

Daredevil V4: Underboss - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V5: Out - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V6: Lowlife - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V7: Hardcore - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev 

Daredevil V8: Echo: Vision Quest - David Mack This volume is a departure from the story Bendis and Maleev are telling, but it’s well worth reading. Alias V1-4 - Brian Bendis & Michael Gaydos This is a good time to read Bendis’ Alias series as it’s loosely connected to his Daredevil run. They share some of the same supporting characters and Jessica Jones works as one of Matt Murdock’s bodyguards for a time. This run is available in an Omnibus, two Ultimate Collections or four paperbacks.

Daredevil V9: King of Hells Kitchen - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V10: The Widow - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V11: Golden Age - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V12: Decalogue - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev Daredevil V13: The Murdock Papers - Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev This is the end of Bendis & Maleev’s run and it’s left on quite the cliffhanger. At this point you can read Daredevil: End of Days as it’s the spiritual final volume of Bendis’ run, but it technically takes place at the end of the continuity so I’m listing it last. 

Ed Brubaker’s Run

Daredevil: The Devil Inside and Out V1 - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark Daredevil: The Devil Inside and Out V2 - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark

Immortal Iron Fist - Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction & David Aja This is a good time to read Iron Fist, it picks up with where Danny Rand leaves off in Daredevil at this point, plus it’s fantastic. It’s available in a Complete Collection of three trade paperbacks.

Daredevil: Hell to Pay V1 - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark Daredevil: Hell to Pay V2 - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark Daredevil: Cruel and Unusual - Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka & Michael Lark Daredevil: Lady Bullseye - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark Daredevil: Return of the King - Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark These volumes are available in two Omni’s, three Ultimate Collections, or the seven trade paperbacks outlines above.

Daredevil: Father - Joe Quesada If you want to take a break from the main story this is a good time to read this volume, which is an exploration of Daredevil’s relationship with his father… but the real draw of this book is the fantastic artwork.

At this point Brubaker leaves the book in another cliffhanger, unfortunately this one isn’t as satisfyingly resolved. Andy Diggle’s run starts off well but goes downhill fast. They are the minimum you need to follow the story, or you can skip them altogether if you’re not worried about continuity. 

Daredevil: The Devil’s Hand - Andy Diggle & Various Daredevil: Shadowland - Andy Diggle & Antony Johnston SHADOWLAND - Andy Diggle & Billy Tan Daredevil: Reborn - Andy Diggle & Davide Gianfelice

Mark Waid’s Run

This is Daredevil’s return to form, though with a very different tone to what came before. These stories are being collected in 5 OHC’s as well as the individual volumes listed below:

A Little Misbehaving by silbecoo aka thekastlediaries – Matt Murdock is a lonely single parent, struggling to figure out what makes his six year old daughter happy, and Elektra is her new teacher, set on using some unorthodox methods to shake up Matt’s conventional ideas. Only one chapter and it may stay that way but I still love it so much and want to share it? Because Matt as a single dad and Elektra being his daughter’s unconventional Catholic school teacher is just so ripe for some fun storytelling! And because I’m mutuals with Beth, I just want her to know that I would love for her to dip a toe back into Mattelektra waters any time she wants :D.
