@juliette-calloway
"The nurses are shitheads." She retorted bluntly, an expression of detest marking her intricate features. Her sister’s suggestion was probably the last thing Lacey would even consider doing. She loved Juliette to the very end of oblivion, but in short, she was a nuisance. Her ample happy go lucky attitude was parallel to that of her own, and because of that, they frequently clashed.
In all though, the box was already a problem for Lacey. It was heavy, and carrying it up the flight of stairs was quite the workout. Now she had to get it up the narrow attic steps and it didn’t take an idiot to figure out how arduous of a task that was to be. ”I…Oh, fine.” She muttered, trying her best not to seem to irritated, though she never quite mastered that ability. ”Let me see—” Swiftly, she kneeled down and swiped up the remaining files, stacking them into her arms and finally returning to a stand. ”Lead the way, twerp.”
Juliette took note of the irritation in her sisters voice, but still, a smile plastered itself onto the girls face for her taking the suggestion anyway. She wanted nothing more than to repair her relationship with Lacy. She loved her so much and she was the one person she cared about the most in this world. Sure she had Beck in her life now, but even so, Lacy would always be her first priority. Juliette worried about her sister a whole lot, and wanted the best for her and nothing less. It's hard though when she surrounds herself with negativity, such as her friend Logan... who the brunette did not like at all.
The girl stood herself up and started her way down the hall, slowing down enough so she could walk with her sister. They walked in silence for a short while... awkward silence. Though, knowing Juliette, that wouldn't last long. "So..." Blue eyes flickered toward Lacy. "How have you been? I mean, I don't see you very much around here. Or at home.." She shrugged. Keep that smile on, Jules.
It didn’t require much use on Lacey’s deduction skills to figure out who the voice belonged to. Much less, the intense bombshell of clumsiness. With an exasperated sigh she darted her gaze away, trying to avoid as much contact as her sister as possible. “It’s fine. Whatever.” Common apathy coated her words, which was typical when it came to Juliette or even Zora. Granted, she had been getting better at dodging them around the hospital, but every now and then she’d be forced to interact. “Why are you carrying them all at once anyway? You’d actually be able to see if you only brought a few in multiple trips.” There was a distinct bitterness she often reverted to when it came to her sister as of late. Most of the time, it wasn’t intentional unless the girl would pry into her life with an onslaught of inquiries. Only then would she become irritable and result in another argument. However this time, she was only trying to be helpful, but it didn’t seem to sound that way.
Juliette was very close with her sister when they were younger, but everything fell apart as they got older. Especially once the two of them now lived with Zora, it was much worse than it ever had been. The brunette has made multiple attempts to reach out to Lacy, but every time she has been shut down. Even still, she refuses to give up. She loves her sister. All she does differently is try not to push her buttons. Juliette has always had the habit of being the curious cat, and it's always been a bad thing when it came to Lacy. She paused picking up the files and set the ones she had grabbed already in her lap. "Well...I don't know. The nurses just gave them all to me right away and told me to get it done. I guess I didn't think of that..." Her lips pursed as her eyebrows came together, thinking the situation over. "Hey!" There's the enthusiastic side. "If you wouldn't mind helping me quick in carrying these, I can help you get that box up in the attic? These files just need to go in that room behind you." How could you say no to that smile?
With a huff, the youth set down the cardboard box one of the orderlies had requested her to carry to the attic. As per usual, she wanted nothing more than to tell him to carry it up himself ever so kindly being that it would have been much easier for him, but odds were that the news of disobedience would run back to her aunt and result in another lecture. ”Shit’s heavier than it looks.” She muttered to herself before turning to bump into a figure. She let out a quick gasp, drawing two steps back from already being on edge and gave the visitor a quick once over. ”Jesus Christ, do you mind?”
Juliette had been carrying a bunch of files that the nurses had wanted her to bring to the record room. This hospital was becoming more and more crowded with patients, so the stack was quite large- enough to tower over her face. Given the girls nutritious habit of being clumsy, she was worried about having this job. Not to mention she wasn't that strong. She had almost reached her destination when she suddenly clashed with another person, the files falling out of her arms and onto the floor. Thank god each of them were tied shut with clamps. The nurses don't trust her that much. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry, I-" She paused as she finally got a good look at who it was she bumped into. "Oh...Hi, Lacy. I'm really sorry about that.. I couldn't see you. I'll just get these." And with that she bent down and started to gather the files back into her arms.
"Even at home?" He repeated, eyes slightly bewildered. He understood that Lacey was troubled. That alone was easy enough to see on her face and the way she handled her composure. She kept to herself a lot, but the last time… "She was with that Logan guy. I don’t know what they were talking about but they got all quiet when they noticed me." He explained carefully. Beck hadn’t known the entire situation between the two sisters. Juliette never mentioned Lacey often. There was clearly something off though. "Jules, what do you mean you hardly see her anymore?"
"Well..." She had started to answer, but hesitated. Relief had gone though her when Beck had started talking again, but the more news he shared, the expression of uneasiness. The mention of Logan though was a different story. That piece of information upset her. Juliette didn't particularly like Logan, for the soul reason of his friendship with her sister. To her, he was disgusting and toxic. She hated thinking such horrible things about a person because that just wasn't her. But with that guy.. she couldn't help it. "Huh?" The brunette snapped herself out of her own thoughts as she looked at Beck again now, but averted her eyes as she answered. "I don't know... She just goes off does her own thing, I guess. Since she spends all of her time with Logan when she's here ad spends all of her time in her room....which she never let's me into. Or she just sneaks out. Whichever she feels like that day." Bitterness was clear.
There was so much instinct that possessed him when it came to Juliette. Especially after he told her how he felt. He was never one for sentiment, but… A smile crept up to him with her head now pressed against his chest. His hand raised and with a softness he had not used since his mother passed away, he brushed his hand against her hair. The light peck had once again thrown him off, like it had the last time she did so, but he didn’t mind. She seemed at ease now, so in his very own sense of accomplishment, he felt glad. ”Alright Calloway. Enough of that.” He teased as his smile remained untouched. ”I saw your sister today, by the way.”
Beck was definitely one of the easiest people for Juliette to be around. For a while she had felt like she was hiding a bit from her because she never was able to tell him she had feelings for him in fear of damaging her friendship. Now that she knew that he felt the same, everything was out there. There had been no one that she was truly comfortable around other than him either. He definitely was special. More than she could ever express. "Alright, alright." A playful roll of her eyes as she began cleaning again. "Really? I hardly see her anymore.. even at home. What is she up to?" The subject was a little touchy, but that didn't make her any less curious.
Her response was easily expected. It was clear that Beck carried interest in Juliette but after simply mentioning his name to her, it wasn’t difficult at all to put two and two together—especially with the smile that had began to betray her. ”Oh yeah.” Alec nodded enthusiastically, releasing a breathy laugh as his gaze jumped between her and the box in his arms. ”I mentioned you the last time we spoke and right away, you could see the embarrassment on his face. I think he’s pretty soft on you.”
A soft giggle was sounded as the girl dipped her head down in attempt to hide her still pink tinted cheeks. Beck really did that? She had no idea... Sure, he came right out and told her that he had feelings for her—but even still it seemed to unreal to her. It seemed like forever that she had kept her feelings about the boy a secret for not wanting to potentially ruin their friendship. Now though everything was out in the open. "You think? That's just.." Her sentence trailed off as she shook her head and let out another small laugh. Eventually her feet had taken her to where they needed to be, the brunette now set her box down on the white table.
Obvious frustration practically illuminated from the girl in the form of both her words and gestures. Though it rattled his nerves just slightly at how stubborn she was, he could never find it in himself to return the irritation she had unintentionally thrown his way. He watched her for a moment as she gathered the rag once more, his arms crossed securely over his chest, but only for a moment longer. She was upset - it was that obvious, and he’d be damned if he left her alone like that. Pressing his lips together before taking a few steps over to her, his hand reached tenderly for her dainty arm and he leaned in close enough to speak, but just lowly enough for her to hear. ”Hey - hey.” He repeated twice to collect her attention. ”It’s okay, Jules. Accidents happen.” A hint of a smile had shown faintly in his features as his thumb brushed against her arm. ”At least let me stick around until you finish if you’re okay without my help. I’m on break anyway, and I could use the company.”
Her lip was pressed between her teeth as she finally looked at Beck though her eyelashes after she felt his hand on her arm and heard the sound of his voice. Eyelids closed as she shook her head, "They happen far too often.." Her voice finally soft again, a little calmer now. Juliette's feet turned so she now faced the boy, letting her head rest against his chest. A long breath...in....- her hand found his own as she took hold of it - out... "Well.." She started, looking up at him now with a hint of a smile. "If you need company that badly... I guess you can stay." A kiss was planted onto Beck's cheek before she stepped away from him and let go of his hand, now getting back to work.
Using a grin in replacement of his response, his arms swayed the box just slightly in the direction of the door. ”After you then.” He spoke briefly, but continued to sport his friendly demeanor to match her own. ”So how have you been? Beck talks a lot about you, but never in depth.”
Blue eyes lit up as she smiled wider this time. "Really?" The news that the boy had given her when she mentioned Beck, she actually forgot to start walking first. Once she caught on, her cheeks flushed a light shade of pink as she cleared her throat and started walking finally. "I-i mean I'm good. Great." Short nods before her lips puckered. "So... Beck talks about me a lot?"
"Alright then." Alec flashed a grin as he approached the volunteer and lifted the second box with ease. "Where are we taking these?"
A huff left the girls lips followed by a scrunched nose as Juliette saw that he could lift the box easily. That was quickly replaced though with her charming smile. "Um, out of this room and down two doors on your left." She pointed after finger after she had used a raised leg to prop the box up.
Making a short nod, the boy eyed Juliette with his legs bringing him to a stand. He hesitantly took a step back to let her get up, but with her interrupted speech, he quickly drew in again almost ready to help the girl up if she needed him to. His lips parted, releasing a silent sigh as his eyes wandered down to her ankle - the obvious source of the pain. If he had gotten there earlier, maybe this could have been prevented but… even so, it’s unrealistic for him to have known. “Are you sure you’re alright? I can help you if you need me to. I don’t mind.”
"-No!" She shouted, again unintentionally, as well as cutting him off. Not realizing that she had held up her hands in front of her in a forceful gesture until she sighed and let them fall to her sides again. "No...Beck, it's alright..." Brown curls bounced over her shoulders as she shook her head. "I have to do this myself. Or at least try.." And with that she had snatched the rag back up in her hand and dipped it into a bucket of water. "It would be nice to at least be able to clean without messing it up. Or anything for that matter." She mumbled, not to Beck, but to herself though she figured he could probably hear her anyhow. After squeezing out the rag, she began to run it along the shelves as she walked, ignoring the sharp pain in her ankle though it was only making her more frustrated.
Beck never felt the need to tease Juliette about the fact that she was prone to accidental injury. It seemed as though she had frequent mishaps, or so the nurses would say. The only thing that would come to mind was worry, and even in such events like this, he never showed it too much because he felt it would make her feel bad. With his hand still at her back, he brushed his palm flatly against the fabric covering her skin. ”It’s fine, don’t even worry about it.” He offered with a faint smile. ”Do you need help getting up?”
After blinking her eyes for a few moments to try and get the tears away, the brunette shook her head. "No... no, I think I'm fine." Bracing both of her hands, she began to bring herself up. "I think i'll just- ouch!" A hiss seeped through her teeth as she winced from a sudden sharp pain in her ankle. Coincidentally, the same ankle she had already sprained not too long ago. Though Juliette managed to straighten herself up anyway, leaning against one of the washing machines. "Just my luck..." Her fingers began to shakily tap against her arms as she crossed them.
"Do you need help with that? Those boxes look heavy."
"Um...yes, actually. Help would be amazing."
"Well I think some of the canned food should be taken to a shelter. A lot of it gets donated and we don’t really use them. There’s a-" Beck’s voice trailed off as the sound of a muffled crash filled the room. He had been speaking to one of the nurses up in the kitchen when it happened. His head shot in the direction of where the sound had came from and with furrowed brows he waited for just a moment before speaking again. "Did you hear that?" He asked rhetorically before coming to a stand instinctively and heading toward the noise. It didn’t take him long to find the source, and when he did, he quickly rushed over. "Jules?" He blurted as his hand brought itself to her back to help her up. "Are you okay?"
A familiar voice was heard along with rushing feet coming toward her. As Juliette got herself to stand with Beck's help, tears began to sting at her eyes. Not only from the pain, but just from the hard day she's had already as well. "I'm fine." She snapped, though unintentionally. Using her hands to brush off the detergent from her clothes, she slapped the washcloth down on one of the washing machines. Today was just not her day. A sigh brushed through her lips as a hand went though her hair, the other resting on Beck's shoulder. "I'm sorry.." Her voice was soft, but she didn't want to look at him just yet. Those tears were still there. "Thank you."
