Having arrived in Atlanta only a couple of days ago, Rhys was still trying to find his way around the city. Though it hadn’t been the first time he had been there, it was definitely the first time he would be for more than a weekend, and having just gotten his new set of wheels, the actor-turned-Academy-Award-winning director decided to wander off and about. That’s how he found himself at Amer, a couple of martinis, shaken-not stirred down if only for the sake of maintaining the Bond-esque theme his new Alfa Romeo had given him all day.
It’s his name that brings his attention to the woman now sitting next to him and, for half a minute, he really tries, thinking long and hard, to figure out where he knows her from. “Back? I only just got here, love.” He says, the slightest cockney accent still subtly present in his speech despite the many years he’s spent in the United States already—even more obvious once he’s had enough to drink. Think. Think. Think. Where do you know her from? “I know who you are.”
Lacroix. Scarlett. Her sister. It hit him then, but the last time he’d seen Juliette, well, she hadn’t grown like that. “Scotch, is it? That kind of evening? Anything I can do to help?”
Juliette hadn’t been back in the city for long. In fact, it had probably only been a month, if not less and she had yet to be caught up with the long four years she had missed. With everything that had happened, sitting down with her sister to catch up on her long-time-no-see manager had been the least of her worries. Which was why she had been so surprised to see Rhys, sitting right next to her by some luck-struck odds.
He hadn’t seemed to recognize her, yet an answer still left his mouth as his eyebrows furrowed, probably trying to recall where they had known each other from. She couldn’t blame him after all, it had been years since the last time they had seen each other and puberty had done quite the job at turning Juliette into the woman she was now. ‘’Well I hope you do’’ she replied, slightly feigning offense before a lazy smile stretched on her lips. Recognition finally struck his features as he spoke again and Juliette refrained from rolling her eyes. She mindlessly wondered at how exciting one’s life must be to not recognize people like herself, people he had known for years now.
‘’If you’re talking about the kind of evening where your plans get cancelled and you wish you had stayed home then yes, it’s exactly that kind’’ she admitted truthfully, taking another sip of the strong beverage. It would have been any other stranger, Juliette would have kept her mouth shut but something about Rhys tugged on her branch of honesty, not even bothering to come up with a credible lie at this point. Knowing herself, she was probably already a little intoxicated as she didn’t seem able to take her eyes off the man, throwing a quick glance at his lean body, muscles tugging at all the right places of his elegant suit. ‘’I’m sure we can find a way for you to help though. What brings you here?’’
