Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!

For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!

Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!

listen. There's a whole mentality shift that needs to happen culture wide here, from the schools to the public infrastructure to pet ownership to the justice system

The proper response to your dog doing a natural behavior you dislike (digging/barking/protecting etc) it to give them an appropriate time and place to engage in that behavior

The proper response to skateboarders damaging infrastructure is to build more and better skate parks, or build skate elements into the public infrastructure on purpose.

The proper response to homeless people sleeping on park benches is to build them houses.

you see how there's like, a commonality at play here?

The proper response to a disruption is to address the root of the disruption directly, not somehow attack the disruption itself -

you don't invent a muffler by swinging a bat at the engine noise, you don't relieve your hunger by punching yourself in the stomach, you don't resolve public unrest by sending armed men to control them and you don't prevent homeless people using bus shelters as a roof by removing the bus shelters.

a whole ass shift in a basic mindset, i'm tellin' you. We need it.

i feel the need to reiterate that "hamas" also happens to be a regular arabic word that means "fervour", "excitement" or "passion" because i feel like in some time we'll start seeing arabs being "called out" because someone heard them speak the word

Some people have already said this in the tags but it can't be repeated enough:

This is the same as with "Allahu Akbar" which can be translated as "God is the greatest" (and before someone "calls me out" on it, Allah is just "god" in arabic so stfu)

This is also the same as with "Jihad", which can be "struggling", "striving" or similar words with the connotation of "exertion"

This is ALSO the same as with Al-quds or simply quds, being Jerusalem's name in arabic.

And I'm sure there are even more out there that will be weaponized by Islamophobes and racists all around the globe.
