feeling rlly annoyed at sjm right now for her shitty worldbuilding

im trying to work on stuff for my acotar fic but theres so many problems im running into when it comes to canon

1- WHY IS THERE NO DATING SYSTEM?? WHAT YEAR IS IT? WHAT MONTH IS IT? this is one of the most basic aspects of creating a story. For example one of the first things i did with my friends when we created out story was make a dating system and explained its origin and shit.

2- why do the majority of characters lack surnames?? i get side characters but major ones like RHYSAND, Tamlin, Cassian, Azriel, and many more lack simple things such as surnames.

3- many characters just arent named. The archeron sisters father is not named. All of rhysand and tamlins family (who are talked about a decent amount) are nameless. Cassians mother is also nameless. The king of hybern is a MAJOR villain who goes unnamed.

4- also missing ages for lots of characters. annoying as fuck.

5- a very non descriptive time period to reference. There’s electricity? theres baths? but its also strangely archaic. Characters dress a bit old fashion but also like its 2016? theres no reference for time period at all.

6- A lack of explanation for the economy. Specifically VELARIS. I have no idea how velaris as a city works. From what i can tell theres no way it can be as good as it is due to what we are told about the city. It was hidden for years but it was able to survive? what about trade? government? homelessness and poverty are said to be non existence but how?? Rhysand is said to be extremely wealthy but how?? Tamlin was villainized for having his people pay taxes (which werent even severe ones??) but rhysand somehow has a city running ‘perfectly’ while also building his like 3rd or 4th house.

Because this Spring was gift. You survived, you made it through the winter, you were not claimed by death's hand.

Lucien before Calanmai: stay in your room. Tamlin will literally be possessed by horny fuck magic, and if he smells you he won't be able to resist you, and it wont end well.

Feyre, after doing the exact opposite of what they told her to: how DARE you act out of line and be out of control and be unable to resist the magic that you told me you'd be unable to resist!!!!!

I didn't even really like tamlin in acotar BUT OH MY GOD. Even I feel the need to defend him with the way he's written in acomaf. ITS SO BLATANT, that he is only written this way to make way for Rhys because he's acting DIRECTLY CONTRADICTORY TO THE WAY HE DID IN THE FIRST BOOK.

I get the thing with aramantha changed him but JESUS CHRIST, THESE CHANGES ARENT EVEN LOGICAL FROM A NARRATIVE STANDPOINT.

The ending to acomaf is so ridiculous I'm going to explode. Lucien mating Elain, feyre's sisters being turned into fae for no reason, tamlin turning into fucking Grima Wormtongue, it's so ridiculous that it has no emotional impact, its just frustrating.

The stakes aren't even high, it's just OMG the king of hybern is going to turn feyre's sisters and the mortal queens into fae oh no!

And like yeah I get how traumatizing that is for Nesta and elain because they don't want it, but it's just a stupid stake from a narrative standpoint. It's completely anticlimactic. We know it's traumatizing, but we also know that these characters will get over it and the book will just chug along. Like they were human, now they're fae. Nothing else really changed.

And the whole Lucien and Elain mating situation is so dumb. Honestly the way romance is done in the book is stupid. It feels like a fanfic with the way every single minor character has to be paired up with each other.

Idk it's just dumb and the plot was really meandering and I feel like ive wasted my time.

I know I'm rambling but I really can't get over the tamlin thing, there are no words for how much it pisses me off.

Tamlin being the only high lord who held out the longest against aramantha and hybern's forces, suffering for 50 years and watching his people die for his refusal to submit, going 3 months forced to being eye candy utm and watch his people be held captive, the High Lord who didn't even want to be high lord and only wanted to play the fiddle but still rose to the challenge to try and do right by the spring court being reduced to what he was at the end of acomaf while rhysand who sexually assaulted feyre and leaves women in his court to have their wings clipped and sold off but gets sjm's version of a shitty redemption arc

This isn't even a "fun bad" series to read, it's just exhausting

Feyre leaving Tamlin and Feyre marrying Rhys IN THE SAME BOOK will never cease to amaze me. She DIED for Tamlin. Not "she'd die for him", no, she LITERALLY died for him. Then she went and married another guy (who was cruel to both her and Tamlin UTM) within what.. 2 months after leaving Tam for good? Absolutely BONKERS. She hated this guy all of 3 months ago, what in the world. If she loved Tamlin enough to die for him, wouldn't she have a few more reservations about leaving him..and a few reservations on top of that about being with the guy who made their lives hell for 3 months? SJM what the hell is this

How angry do you think lucien was when the IC told him about feyres pregnancy and then told him she doesn’t know how bad it is and he can’t tell her.I know he was absolutely fuming and would’ve without a doubt told feyre everything if they hadn’t stationed him at spring for the duration of her pregnancy.

If Tamlin told Feyre about the danger during the pregancy she wouldn't believe him, she would not even listen. And the second Ratsand caught him, he'd be humiliated and attacked even if Lucien was by his side. He'd just suffer and in the end, be right again. SJM couldn't take the risk to make Tam "look heroic" and "good male" so she let both of then far away.

Trust me, I really believe Tam wouldn't hide this thing from Feyre. He'd be so worried specially cause HE HAD SEEN THAT GIRL DIE ON HIS ARMS ONCE.
