You shouted out loud at the slim boy in front of you, struggling to keep his balance as his orange hair flowed along his wailing figure. It was hard to fight back a laugh. But with the smile glowing on your lips, it was hard for him to not laugh at himself as well. Whenever he was able to see you laugh, his heart soared—high above the clouds, even during the dark night where you both decided to go out.
It was cold. The wind was bitter today; his cheeks were pink and he had to hide his chin further into an old scarf that Naomi had given him. However, whenever your presence was near, Tanizaki grew warm. A gentle lit fire in his heart. He smiled at your kind gesture. A hand held out to him as he gripped onto the railing hard, where experienced skaters had zoomed past him.
“Sorry,” he chuckled awkwardly, quick to rub the back of his neck though he nearly lost his balance. Tanizaki stumbled on his feet, skates slashing the ice below crazily, and then he fell close to your presence. He parted his lips in awe. “So—sorry again! I’m sorry, Y/N!”
“That’s okay, silly,” you laughed, determined to grab his hand. “You look cold.”
He fought back a laugh. “I kinda am!”
“Just stick close to me and you won’t fall.”
“Naomi usually would try to let me go out ice skating sometimes and I usually get the hang of it after a—a—” Tanizaki kicked out a foot and then almost stumbled back, where you grabbed onto his arms and pulled him close. Both of you were slowly skating on the ice, carefully; your hands smoothed his arms carefully. “—a bit!”
“You’re adorable!” You chuckled out loud, grin wide on your face.
The two of you were close to each other’s presence. He was basking in your features underneath the rink’s lights that were twinkling up above along with the stars. You were holding his hand tightly; fingers intertwined with one another. Tanizaki liked this. You were warm, and he was cold. Despite the flame that rose his heart to a comforting heat, his skin was still tickled by the sharp kisses of the wind.
With one small turn after another, he started to get more comfortable with himself. Tanizaki kept his hand with yours, though. It seemed as if both of you were close to each other’s hearts; faces snug deep into your scarves and the soft music in the background was beginning to fade away from your minds. Nothing mattered except the gentle voices that were shared between the both of you.
He watched your eyes; a glint of happiness sparked through every time you talked about a hobby, a memory, or even just Tanizaki being himself. He continued to tighten his grip on you, and then at some point, he picked up his pace.
“Wha—hey!”
“Hold on!” He chuckled loudly, gripping your hand tightly.
Almost as if one small swift movement was going to have you lose the connection that your fingers had with his; only your skin touching his was doing all the talking. Tanizaki picked up the pace, feet moving quickly below him and suddenly, the coldness from the wind wasn’t chewing his cheeks anymore. His jaw started to hurt from grinning cheekily too much, but he couldn’t help himself.
And with one quick turn, he was able to watch you nearly lose your balance. You almost tripped, yet you were caught by his grasp. Both of you slid back into the railing and you panted heavily, nearly fearing for your life that you were about to have your face meet the ice below you. “Oh God, I’m sorry Y/N,” he apologized quickly, a worried look evident on his face. “I didn’t mean to pick up the speed so fast! Are you hurt?”
“No,” you chuckled, still catching your breath. “I’m fine. I’m just glad you’re having fun.”
He placed his gloved palms on your cheeks. You looked up at him, both of your breaths fanning with each other. “You’re so adorable,” he complimented you, a smile shining on his lips. “I’m so happy, Y/N. I am really happy right now.”
“I’m glad you are, Jun’ichirō,” you grinned back at him. His heart continued to fly above the clouds above both of you.
And he leaned in quickly, pressing his lips against yours.
