Beyonce Joins Michelle Obama's Initiative To Fight Childhood Obesity
Not only do us 'normal' people realise that obesity is a problem. But famous people, like the most influential woman, Beyonce and The first lady, Michelle Obama want to fight childhood obesity. ' Beyonce created the video to promote First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign, which seeks to curb childhood obesity' quoted from ABC news. The first lady promoted this campaign and 'gives facts, tips and advice on how families and schools can create healthier meals and incorporate more physical activity into their daily lives.' quoted from ABC news.
It is clear that this issue has gotten out of hands and we must do something to make a change. For a following read up on the campaign, please dont hesitate to click on the link below:

Here are a couple of transformations that some children have gone through. Being obese or overweight is not pleasant, the majority of the people do not like the feeling and 'looks' they get. It has slowly become socially unacceptable. Look at the following pictures and see the smile on their faces when they loose all the weight. Your child can be happy aswell! Please feel free to leave some comments below

Is my child obese?
Obesity can be calculated simply through the ratio of someone’s height and their weight called Body Mass Index (BMI).
It can be simply calculated by;
BMI= kilograms/ meters^2
Where
BMI Classification
<18.5 underweight
18.5–24.9 Normal weight
25.0–29.9 Overweight
30.0–34.9 Class I obesity
35.0–39.9 Class II obesity
≥ 40.0 Class III obesity
“World Health Organisation values published in 2000”
Boys are said to be obese when BMI is greater than 30 and for girls greater than 35.

Lunch Box
JnrGym kids need to eat healthy at home and away from home especially at SCHOOL.
Fact: During a regular schooling week a child will eat 10 meals at school ( morning tea + Lunch) compared with 11 meals at home.
So parents when packing your child's lunch box are asking yourself:
is it healthy?
will they eat it?
is the same packed lunch?
Gone are the days where parents are packing sandwich, bag of chips, lollies and juice box. Lunches need to be creative, inventive and yet practical for parents to prepare and pack.
Lunch Box Check-list:
fruit
offer variety of breads other than white bread
reduced fat diary goods- fresh yoghurt and cheese
serving of protein: meat, egg, tuna, chickpea
Water or fresh juice

Biggest loser challenge at home!
Studies have shown that working on a task together can be more beneficial and effective in reaching a common goal. As we all know doing something on your own can be very challenging, leading to lack of motivation and a sense of failure. So why not lose weight together? Keep each other motivated? And together you can reap the rewards of your hard work.
So parents/guardians/ siblings what will you be doing while your child/ sibling is active at Jnr Gym?
As we have already mentioned children are like sponges and setting a good example for them can help provide with better lifestyle habits.
Here’s the challenge….
So while your child/ sibling try losing weight at Jnr Gym why don’t you do the same!
Be competitive about the amount of weight loss. Without you even knowing your child that attends Jnr Gym will have greater incentive to beat you.
WIN WIN situation really….
You get you child more motivated to attend Jnr Gym and be active while you get fitter and healthier too.
Here’s the game plan of ways to get fit:
1. Attend the gym the same time as Jnr Gym
2. Come 15min before Jnr Gym finishes and go for a walk or jog around the block while you wait for your child.
3. If you live close to the gym already, choose to walk to the gym instead of driving to pick up you children.
4. Saturday can be a family bike ride to a finish point with a reward e.g. ice-cream shop
5. Sunday can be family challenge day! If you have a big enough family a little basketball game or soccer game at the local park.
A collective family effort to lose weight will bring out the competitiveness in everyone.
The family member that loses the most weight at the end of the month can be rewarded I.e. a bonus on their weekly allowance, or choice of where the next family outing can be.
So have a 30 day biggest loser challenge starting today!
We would love to hear your progress and results.

Getting Kids to Eat Healthy
Most parents will agree that getting their kids to eat healthy is almost an impossible task, but the question that these parents should be asking themselves “is all the struggling worth the benefits to the child in the long run?” I would say most definitely. Kids who eat healthy perform well in school, benefit from an increase in attention span, grow to the maximum of their potential and most importantly are more likely to maintain their good eating habits throughout their lives. Below are some tips in making the impossible task of getting the kids to eat well, possible.
First things first, setting a good example. There is no point preaching the importance of eating healthy to the kids if you’re still going to be eating all your favourite sugar snacks and sculling down your favourite soft drinks in front of them, lead by example and hop on the healthy eating program with your child.
“Out with the junk, in with the healthy”. Make sure you’re only stocking healthy foods in the house, when the kids are feeling hungry they’ll only have a choice of nutritious foods to munch down on, this will encourage them to have a go at some of the healthy meals they wouldn’t dare to go near if there were plenty of chocolate snacks around.
Educating the kids about the type of nutritions in certain foods is a must. Let them understand what it is they should look for and why it’s good for them, no need to get overly complex on the issue just enough information for them to grasp. It’s also a good idea to teach them how to read the nutrition label on packages.
Many parents would use food as punishment and leverage, my advice, AVOID at all costs. The last thing you want is for the child to associate food with power, food isn’t a weapon it’s one of the building blocks of life, although it may seem harmless giving them a bonus snack or taking away one of their favoured meals, it’s just not worth the trouble it causes in the long term.
Monitor what your child eats as best as you can. Don’t go to extreme lengths of hounding the kids every day bugging them until they can’t take much more of your interrogation, you’re going to have to accept the fact that you can’t know everything that they are going to eat especially when they’re at school. What you can do is circle what is appropriate to eat on the school lunch menu and informing them of their choices.
Most important of all, make eating healthy food a joyful experience. Get the kids involved in the kitchen; allow them to help in the preparation of food and also get their input in what type of food they want to eat that night, this would make them feel satisfied to a certain degree, knowing that they’ve contributed to dinner would remarkably increase the chances of them eating it.
