An Uber-brief History of the JYC: the Junkyard Collective was created by Jay Sharp, Zoe Rosenberg and Susie Taylor in late 2009. We were tired of our portfolios collecting dust under our beds. After repeated attempts to work with an online web gallery fell through, and our prior years of dealing with countless flakey webmasters we decided to create this space here on tumblr. This is a space to trade, hock and showcase our original artwork. We are always looking for fresh faces with inspired pieces to share with the world. This is something from a personal project I was working on a month or so ago that didn’t exactly pan out the way I wanted it to, but I thought it gave a pretty accurate depiction of how I start out drawing something. This was all done in Manga Studio (because I am lazy). But I would take the exact same steps if I were drawing on paper…it would just be a lot of pieces of paper that I draw over on my light box (things like shadow separations and tattoos would be done on the back of the actual final line drawing or on a new piece of paper entirely depending on the situation). I should also point out that this was not done for an animation, these are the actual layers I would use while doing an illustration.

ARTIST CALL!!!

The Project Collective is now accepting proposal submissions for our upcoming, longest and LARGEST event ever!

TPC’s mission is to build stronger communities through art and music, while supporting the community through charitable efforts . In every event we host, we in turn donate all proceeds to a local charity. This particular event will be held at The Dekalb Market, located in Downtown Brooklyn. In conjunction with the Dekalb market we will hold an official fundraiser for Family Cook Productions on MAY 19TH.  From April to June artists will have the opportunity to show work throughout the Market. For this event, we expect the art to develop gradually during the 3 month period.

Surfaces for art will include: shipping containers, wire fences around the market, and any other kind of surface so long as its not using the floorspace.

TPC is looking for artists in all kinds of media: sculpture, performance, video, any interactive, and environmental art. Please send us a brief proposal with a link to your website or a few images to [email protected] by no later than April 7th.
