Route Review - Junya Sakurazawa

No spoilers above the cut. Spoilers beneath the cut. Bullet points for brevity, further elaboration below them.

Breaks the mold of your typical flirty playboy; Junya is legitimately a sweet person.

MC is actually a bit jaded in this one — she has her guard up with Junya because of his reputation as a playboy. The way it plays out is much different from other playboy routes in Voltage’s games, which makes it unique.

Again, there is more to the story than romance. Voltage does a good job of involving the reader in the work MC is doing and making you care about the success of MC and Junya.

Junya is certainly an odd combination of archetypes — and maybe it’s for the best that he doesn’t really fit into any of them. It gives him some depth, it makes him feel multidimensional. Outwardly he seems all smiles with the occasional flirty, flowery words. And, indeed, he has many admirers.

However, he’s more than that — in the prologue, you can see just how keenly aware he is about what other people think about him. He’s just a poster boy, and he makes light of the fact that people think as much. But actually, he’s very passionate about what he’s doing.

MC, on the flipside, is actually pretty wary of Junya. She knows his reputation and she’s not about to fall for the niceties. Contrary to some MCs that are innocent or naive, she is on guard. In that way she is realistic. How many of us have been burned and find it difficult to trust, especially when the person making overtures at you is friendly with everyone?
