🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Apparently I've been using AI since before AI existed
Since this has now become a public accusation that directly affects my job, I figured I'd make a masterpost so nobody has to keep asking what happened and before this become something.
What happened?
A guy named Colton Biggerstaff was removed from Macalda Reye's Discord server after repeatedly posting AI-generated images there.
Instead of accepting that, he decided to publicly accuse Maca of using AI.
Tiny problem.
I'm the artist behind Reye's artwork :D
Congratulations. You picked literally the worst possible person to accuse YAY~
His evidence?
✨ AI detectors. ✨
That's it.
The same AI detectors that also think:
my 2014 fanfiction was written by AI
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is AI-generated
Wonderful technology, congrats
My evidence?
Since apparently existing wasn't enough:
✅ Original PSD/CSP files
✅ Hundreds of editable layers
✅ Masks
✅ Work-in-progress images
✅ Speedpaints
✅ Files dating back years
I was struggling to find some of the files because they're SO old they're from before I even switched to Clip Studio Paint 💀 (photoshop and Paint tool SAI old files)
Some of the artwork being accused was literally created before modern AI image generators existed. Apparently I also invented time travel.
I feel so naked posting this many PSD layers. 😭
Colton, look what you've made me do ;_;
-
"But maybe the PSD/CSP/SAI was faked."
Sure.
Adobe, Clip studio paint and Paint Tool SAI has secretly been working with me since 2017 to create fake PSD files with hundreds of editable layers, adjustment layers, masks, revisions, and years of archived WIPs.
We really committed to the bit.
-
Here's the funniest part.
The person accusing us...
...regularly posts AI-generated artwork himself.
Yes. The irony packed its bags, bought a plane ticket, and moved in permanently sheesh
-
Why I'm responding?
Well, normally I ignore drama.
But, this isn't drama. This is my career.
I'm a professional artist. It's my main and ONLY work.
I've spent years studying, practicing, working with clients, building trust, posting my process, keeping PSDs, recording speedpaints...
When someone publicly calls my work AI-generated, they're not insulting my feelings, they're attacking my livelihood.
People commission me because they trust my work.
People enjoy Maca's content that is using artwork that I made.
False accusations like this don't magically stay on one website.
They spread.
So yes, this one gets receipts.
-
So... My final thoughts
If your entire investigation begins and ends with: "An AI detector said so."
Maybe don't publicly accuse artists.
-
Especially artists who have years of documented work, source files, PSDs, archived WIPs, public speedpaints, and timestamps older than the technology you're accusing them of using.
Wild concept, I know.
Anyway...
Enjoy the evidence.
I'll be over here continuing to draw things the old-fashioned way:
With sleep deprivation, caffeine, Clip Studio Paint, and approximately 700 layers
And this last part is for you, Colton.
Accusing me was already enough to make me angry. Trying to damage the reputation of someone I deeply care about using my work as ammunition crossed a line. I will always defend the people I love with the same passion I defend my own work. Don't mistake my patience for indifference.
I'll defend my work every time, but I'll defend the people I love even harder.
