feiistymermaid:
Gifts were a first for Rikki. She’s moved around a lot, even when she was still in Australia living with her dad. Nobody ever presented her (or her father) gifts whenever they moved to a new place. Rikki hadn’t really gotten gifts except on her birthday, but those were few. So naturally, Rikki couldn’t suppress her surprise.
“A gift? For me?” Rikki repeated, raising her eyebrows. Her hand that rested on the edge of her door fell to her side as she shifted her feet. She opened her lips to say more, but no words came out. How does she respond to such a thing? Was this a Japanese custom? Does she give another gift? Does she invite her in? Rikki didn’t have the best manners, but she knew couldn’t just take the platter and close the door.
“You–you shouldn’t have. But thanks, I guess. I’m still a bit new around here. You, uh, live in this building? One of my neighbors? Haven’t gotten a chance to really meet anyone, to be honest.”
—– ♃ ❥ She can tell that she’s caught the other girl off-guard, which wasn’t at all her intention, and a hand raises from the plate to brush through her hair, almost self-consciously. But it’s a feeling Lita shakes off soon enough, making sure to keep the smile on her lips. “They’re just cookies, nothing special.” After all, they didn’t take her long to make.
A nod at the question, a gesture over her shoulder. “Just over there.” Is there a touch of sorry in the blonde’s voice? Lita follows it with a shrug. “People are busy, they tend to keep to their schedules.” Which she supposes isn’t all that great for meeting people. Which only makes her more glad she’d put in the effort to come and say hello.
Hands hold out the place once more, gently gesturing for the other girl to take them. “I’m Lita,” she realises with the other girl’s questions, they hadn’t actually gotten to name, and that draws a small giggle from her.
