My insane coworker loves that I keep a weekly list of what callers have misheard my name as. She reviews it every Friday.
She has decided that the peak has been reached. And to be fair, I also literally cannot fathom how this person heard my government name and thought I said "Silvia."
So, anyway, my coworker now addresses as Silvia. All the time. Emails, texts, group meetings, yelling down the hallway. I am Silvia now.
I said, "I know that was a banger of a mishear, but why are you stuck on it so hard?"
And she says, "because it sounds so fancy! Old money widow Nashville name!"
As always, I just go with it.
The best part is that NO ONE. Not a single person in meetings or CC'd on emails has said a WORD about it. Not once.
In fact, my boss came into my office and said "Silv--no. Uh.......... JJ." It took him five hot seconds to remember my real name.
My email signature now has "pronouns: Silvia/Silvio"
