We need to talk more about Bucky's incredible feats of strength in Thunderbolts...
I posted about this on x.com, but since I haven't seen much discussion about it here, I thought it would be fair to share it here too, because I mean, these are amazing feats!
To start with, this marvel:
After a few brief calculations it can be said that without much effort, Bucky can withstand around 229.6 ton-force!
Now the math: assuming that the Humvee is the lighter model M998 HMMWV, weighing 3900 kg (including passengers, armor, armament). That it reaches a top speed of 68 mph, and considering that once overturned, the vehicle was not displaced by more than one meter (let's consider 0.8 m).
Velocity: 68 mph = 30.39872 m/s
Ek= 1/2 * m * vยฒ = 1/2 * 3900 * (30.39872)ยฒ = 1,801,980.2 J
Stopping distance of the vehicle after rollover (d): 0.8 m
F= E/d = 1,801,980.2 / 0.8 = 2,252,450.25 N = 229.6 ton-force
Which is equal to support the weight of 100 Humvees!
And after some more calculations of this iconic scene, we can say that without much effort Bucky was able to impose a blow of 25-50 tons!
Approx. mass of the truck: 3500 kg
Approx. speed of the truck: 8 m/s
Approx. height and angle of deflection: 2.5 m at an angle of 60ยฐ to the horizontal.
Aprox. duration of impact: 0.05 - 0.1 seconds.
There are many calculations for the impulse and then the force, but the short answer is: 243 kN - 487 kN = 25 - 50 ton-force
And since a blow (just like the one in this scene) is a transfer of momentum from the ground through the whole body. We can say that Bucky can hit with a force between 25 and 50 tons without much effort!
So, we can safely say that in terms of strength: Bucky can withstand nearly 230 tons AND deliver a blow of between 25 and 50 tons of force without even breaking a sweat ๐ฅฒ๐ฆพ๐๐
For comparison, Steve's feat of stopping the helicopter in CW (which looked like a small one, maybe around 1500 kg). It'd have taken him between 2 and 3 ton-force to stop it, less than 76 times Bucky's feat.
Sorry not sorry Steve, Bucky is much stronger than you according to physics ๐
