Hi Minnie!! It's been a while since I've popped in here 😂 I noticed you've taken a step back from fandom after delving into a new obsession-- that's always fun and exciting! I've actually been thinking about fandom lately (stucky obviously) because I've been here for six years now, which is absolutely insane. On top of actively writing for that entire time, so that makes it even crazier. My muses are still as loud as can be!
I've always found it fascinating how everyone's interests fluctuate. Some people get into a fandom and stay there for only a couple months, then others stay for years. I've had smaller interests come and go over the years, but my biggest have been Naruto, Supernatural, Stucky, and of course World of Warcraft (I've been actively playing for 16 years now... okay that's even more insane LOL)
When I left the Supernatural fandom in 2021 I felt like I could finally breathe again 😂 Being in an active fandom with new content coming out is incredibly fun, but it can also be exhausting at the same time. Which is why I think I've realized over time that I prefer established fandoms, especially for posting fics. I'm really enjoying The Pitt, but I'll need the excitement to settle down if I ever decide to write for that fandom lol
I hope you and your dog(s?) are doing well! And your new blorbos keep you entertained and happy!
Mandyyyy, hi!! Sorry it's taken me a while to reply to this, but it was really nice to get a message from you ❤️ Hope you're doing well!
Wowww six years and still going strong, I absolutely love that for you!! So glad the muses are still as loud as they can be, and I hope you're having an amazing time writing and sharing your brilliant stories!
I agree with you, it is really fascinating to see how differently people's relationships to their obsessions and fandoms develop and change over time! We all share the same fandom/obsession gen, of course, but some people hop from one thing to another and have brief but very intense hyperfixations, and others stay in the same fandom for years and years and remain just as into it (and there is nothing wrong with either, of course, this is just an observation!)
I am personally more like the latter, I think, though not exclusively. With the exception of a brief interlude about two years ago when I got back into an old obsession for a while, I was in the Stucky / Evanstan fandom for 8 years (!) and never once grew tired of it, which I think is pretty amazing and a testament to how brilliant this fandom and the characters/actors are!
And then suddenly, this new (also sort of old) interest came along and BAM, completely takes over my life??? 😭 Like, it's intense, on a par with how I felt when I first got into Stucky. I wasn't expecting that to happen, but that just goes to show that you can't predict these things and you've just gotta roll with it! (little oasis pun there for the initiated)
I can totally see why you'd prefer established fandoms especially when it comes to posting fics, yes. I've seen a bit of how things went in the firefighters fandom, and now the HR fandom, and while they clearly give a lot of people a lot of joy, it also seems very intense and sometimes complicated, you know? I'm glad you're enjoying The Pitt, though, and hopefully at some point you'll be able to get a bit more into that fandom as well.
The Oasis fandom is relatively small, and I don't know if you know anything about them, but basically they were a huge band back in the 90s' and 2000s, and then they split up in 2009, and it took them until last year to get back together. So obviously, the fandom was mostly dormant in the intervening 16 years, but then when they announced their reunion and they went on tour, it was revived quite suddenly and thoroughly! Since their world tour ended, things have been a little quieter as they prepare their next steps, so right now, the fandom is a lovely mix between excited and established, which is working really well for me and keeps me feeling really inspired and motivated to write as well (just posted a new 30k fic on my secondary AO3 account, in case anyone is interested!) So yay!!
Anyway, me and the doggos are doing great (Lily and Maisie say hi!!), thank you so much! I hope you are too, and that your muses will keep inspiring and guiding you for a long time to come ❤️
