respectfully, i don't believe equius would actually be able to follow through with either of those courses of action.
this is not directed towards you, but rather a broader misconception i see a lot that i want to address:
i feel like this is often overlooked, but despite his short temper and prone-ness to violence, he doesn't actually like hurting living beings. that's what the robots were for; an outlet for his anger so he didn't have to really hurt anyone.
he scolds nepeta for hunting animals for food, and (if i remember correctly) is actually a vegetarian. he pets aurthour as gently as he can, though he's so STRONG he bruises him anyway.
he's protective of nepeta (still controlling and overbearing, yes) because he's seen his friends get hurt before, and he doesn't want the same to happen to her.
he's also really quick to help his friends whenever they need something. he built vriska's arm, tavros's legs, aradia's body (unethical choices notwithstanding), and even tried to help karkat calm down gamzee when he asked.
additionally... ( spoilers for events past act 5 act 2 )
...he is the only highblood to never raise a hand against another troll. in [S] Equius: Seek the highb100d, he thanks nepeta for being his moirail and helping him curb his violent urges, stating he "shudders to imagine what he might have become" without her (paraphrasing here).
to his own detriment, he refuses to fight gamzee and begs him to talk instead. of course, his casteism played a big role in his death, but so did his pacifism. people seem to forget that he was his friend/enemy.
