Feeling nostalgic today so I just wanted to say that the very first fic I ever read way back in 2011-ish was one of yours (A Victorious Warrior Returned) and it changed teenage me’s life lol so thank you for that <3

You mentioned ACoFaF in my last ask, and I actually have a question related to it. I've noticed in House Rules your writing leans toward shorter and snappier sentences. At first I thought it might be because it has a contemporary setting, but then I thought of ACoFaF and realized that might not be the case. Love your writing in either style! But it made me wonder if that was just the vibe for this fic with shorter chapters or... Would love your thoughts.

It's definitely a stylistic choice on my part. I want this to have a snappy, contemporary feel, given the subject matter. It's a New Adult vibe? Jon's in a world that isn't known for being super articulate. And I didn't want the dialogue to sound out of keeping with the surrounding text, so it ends up being leaner. While also making each POV hopefully distinct.
ACoFaF was much more of a weighty examination of mental health and deep grief. Plus, in that universe, Jon and Sansa are much more sophisticated young people who have grown up in that sophisticated setting. So, I luxuriated more in the text, I suppose.

Fellow tumblr old here, as well. I've also been reading and loving your Jonsa fics for over a decade now! And none more than House Rules has made me feel my age quite so acutely. I'm giddy reading the Jonsa POV chapters, of course. But I find myself nodding along to Cat and Ned's POVs. Like yes, soft-touch self-close drawers. And yes, Ned acknowledging injuries that wouldn't have affected him ten years ago. All that to say, where'd the time go?!

I felt like people were weirdly judgmental of Ned and Cat’s reaction to Jon and Sansa in ACoFaF at the time I was writing it. Like, they weren’t wrong 😂 Even if I want these young people to make potentially bad choices in the name of romance!
I always give Cat a nice kitchen. Clearly writing what I want!!

Yes, maybe! I have *thoughts* in that universe, and while I don't know if I'll ever continue it exactly the way I intended, I could see myself adding to it in other ways. I've done that before, so why not? Thank you! That will forever be one of my favorites, and it was such a fun time in fandom. Long live salty!teens!
hii! i just wanna say how much i love your writing and specifically your writing in give me shelter. there’s nothing like it and i find myself reading that version of jon and sansa over and over again. is there anything that inspired the wedding ceremony and bedding chapter? it’s like crack haha i need more of it but there’s nothing like it. the way you wrote sansa as this wall and jon as being so dominant and yet hesitant and careful with her is beautiful and very much like book jonsa. i’m making my way through some of your other work already but are there any other scenes like that of jonsa in your fics or better yet another fic where jon is characterized like that ? i would read those first ten chapters where they are new to each other and he’s courting her while she sizes him up a million times and still not get enough of it ily!! and thank you for your hard work ❤️
Ah, thank you so much! I just wanted to write the fic I wanted to read, I guess. That was my only inspiration. I wanted to redo What a Disappointment sort of? Where they don't know each other, but this time, make Jon more dominant. Always careful though! That part is important to me.
I made that switch in writing Jon as dominant and gentle, I feel like around 2022, and largely haven't looked back! But it definitely lands differently when they don't know each other. I'll probably always look for ways to get that high again, because I love it too. <3
one of my favorite tropes in jonsa fics is jaime spending two minutes around them and clocking them IMMEDIATELY
