In regards to the bug thing, I've had the displeasure of schooling with a dude who hates bugs enough to kill every one he sees. He had shown no actual signs of autism. I figure that ought to be a PSA of sorts, that there are plenty of allistic people that are that evil.

calling people’s phobias and their reactions to them “evil” isn’t okay either.

Bugs are a very common phobia.

Mom before diagnosis: Very accepting, friendly teasing.

Mom after diagnosis: Pretends I don't exist, forces me to be in uncomfortable situations, "come on, [name]! Even though I have memory problems too, having a list is unnecessary! Now, do all your chores in alphabetical order in thirty minutes, something no human being can do, because clearly being autistic means you can do all this better than everyone!! Why aren't you talking?? Grounded lol!"

So I'm autistic and I do #100 to people because sometimes other people's fidgeting/stimming really /does/ make me anxious. What should I do about that?

It’s different when it’s due to conflicting sensitivities, because both have different needs (when allistics do it it’s basically because “somebody’s gonna see and think you’re weird and then think i’m weird because im with you”) - the best way to deal with it would be:

1) don’t touch the person

2) ask if they can stop and don’t push it

if it’s an issue of noise, you could use headphones/earplugs. if it’s an issue of being able to see the movement (I know movement I’m not staring at makes me anxious too), then possibly turn so you can’t see it or ask them if it’s possible to do that under the table or in their pockets.

re 108: i've actually been thinking that about myself. since my diagnosis, i notice all these things i didn't before, and i think 'did i always stim this much?' 'would this have made me shutdown before? am i over-reacting?' etc. it's very frustrating

fun fact! a lot of the time the reason symptoms seem to get “worse” after a diagnosis is because we know there’s a REASON we feel these things and feel the need to do {whatever}, or the inability to do {whatever} and we let ourselves do it or not do it more often.

Going through life being told you have a learning disability. that it's normal. Trying to slowly engage the possibility of being autistic by casual conversation about current issues. Then hearing "autism is a disease. So is learning disability" what?
