âOkay boys, this is it. The mission weâve been preparing for our entire lives.â
my psych book sounds like a shitpost
Around here, however, we donât look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because weâre curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. - Walt Disney
If youâve never seen Meet the Robinsonâs before, you really need too. The whole movie is based around the phrase âKeep Moving Forwardâ and how failing =/= failure.Â

Well, isnât this romantic? Having your date regurgitate your entire picnic. Kowalski tries to push off the sarcasm in his thoughts. ⊠what does he know about dates anyway? Apparently not much. And usually he doesnât mind Ricoâs regurgitated food much, too. Letâs eat that fish and get over with this.
âLooks good. I suppose the whole⊠crying made me a little hungry after all.â He proceeds to eat his fish in one gulp.
Seeing the enjoyment Kowalski had with his fish, Rico ate his one gulp as well. Â The taste was the same as before, enjoyable.
âGood âWalski, eh?â  He asked, hoping he liked this picnic that lasted only about a minute.â

âOkay!â Rico agreed as they got to the seemingly desolate spot. Â He then regurgitated a checkered cloth to lay under the tree. Â
âHmâŠwhere snowcones now?â  He asked Kowalski as he looked around, unable to find the usual snowcone cart that always goes by this part of the park.
Kowalski looks around, but he canât make out the snowcone cart either. âMaybe heâs busy on a different spot of the park.â He sighs and pulls out his abacus, moving some of the small globes.
âAccordingly to my calculations, he should be here. But maybe thereâs something going on, further away, and heâs needed there.â Kowalski sits down on the cloth. Heâs not really in the mood to search the snowcone cart now. âDo you⊠have some fish here⊠from earlier⊠by any chance?â
âYup!â Â Rico happily answered as he regurgitated out a two plates for each of them with a small candle in the middle. Â He felt a bit proud of himself for adding that little decoration. Â
âAnâ...â He then spat out a whole fish for him and Kowalski right on their plates. Â âFeesh!â Â
âYay!â Â He grabbed Kowalski flipper and led him towards getting out the zoo. Â It was mostly a quiet day at the zoo, so there were only a few human visitors to sneak around.
Eventually, they came out of the zoo and into the outlying park. Â It seemed desolate and free to walk about. Â
ââWalski, where âoo want picnic at?â
Kowalski rubbs his head. âSomewhere quietâŠâ If this really turns out to be a date here, he doesnât want any witnesses. It would be better to go under a tree, to have some cover, in case a human came by. Not like dogs or any predator would be a problem with Rico around. Which is the good part of this.
But the problem are the dwellers in these trees⊠I believe Fredâs tree is over there, soâŠ. He looks around and points over to a tree, whoâs a good part away from  the tree he believes to be Fredâs home. It looks unoccupied. âHow about under that tree there..?â
âOkay!â Rico agreed as they got to the seemingly desolate spot. Â He then regurgitated a checkered cloth to lay under the tree. Â
âHm...where snowcones now?â Â He asked Kowalski as he looked around, unable to find the usual snowcone cart that always goes by this part of the park.
Rico noticed how Kowalski didnât seem as excited about this as he was.  Perhaps there was something he likedâŠmaybe something not science-y? Or maybe to win Kowalskiâs heart, he had to make a bold move.Â
âYehâŠwe eat snowy-cones nâ picnic, howâbout?â  Rico suggests as they both climb out of their hideout. Â
As theyâre outside, Kowalski turns back and gives Rico a bit of a flabbergasted look. Picnic. Snowy-cones. Is he really serious about that whole date-thing? Heâs not exactly sure how to answer that at first. He could be bold about it like usual, but itâs probably enough if one penguin has a broken heart here already. And Kowalski learned enough in the meantime to know, that Rico tries to cheer him up. Just the way of it seems a bit awkward to him. Still, he doesnât want to⊠hurt him for that.
âActually, why not. Snowcones doesnât sound so bad to me right now.â Sugar helps if youâre sad, so thereâs that.
âYay!â Â He grabbed Kowalski flipper and led him towards getting out the zoo. Â It was mostly a quiet day at the zoo, so there were only a few human visitors to sneak around.
Eventually, they came out of the zoo and into the outlying park. Â It seemed desolate and free to walk about. Â
ââWalski, where âoo want picnic at?â
âYay!â Â Rico clasped his flippers together thankful his suggestion got Kowalski out of his crying fit.
 âUhâŠhmmâŠwhere âoo want go?â
Kowalski shrugs.
âI donât really care. Maybe into the park? I just want to go out. But not too far away from the zoo. Just in case something happens.â With him around, thereâs always something happening, isnât it? He got the worst luck out of the four. Thinking about it that way, he just sighs and waddles over to the ladder. Nope, donât start sobbing again⊠just letâs get over with this.
Rico noticed how Kowalski didnât seem as excited about this as he was. Â Perhaps there was something he liked...maybe something not science-y? Or maybe to win Kowalskiâs heart, he had to make a bold move.Â
âYeh...we eat snowy-cones nâ picnic, howâbout?â Â Rico suggests as they both climb out of their hideout. Â
âGo on date?â Rico finished for Kowalski, smiling and seeming hopeful at how Kowalski seemed more calm now that he asked. Â He knew he scored it this time, calming a friend down and to even go out with him.
âWe be mates nâstuff, heh.â
Kowalski stares at Rico quietly for quite some time. Date. Does he even know, what⊠uh well, he âdatesâ a doll usually, so⊠He takes a deep breath. The others went off for this movie and Rico had to stay behind because of him. Maybe he can make up for it with just spending some nice time with him, instead of just staring at eachother awkwardly or continue sobbing the rest of the day.
âI suppose we could go out together for a bit. I need fresh air anyway.â
âYay!â Â Rico clasped his flippers together thankful his suggestion got Kowalski out of his crying fit.
 âUh...hmm...where âoo want go?â
âMnh..â Â Rico watched as Kowalski seemed to continue his endless crying. Â He could sort of understand a crushed heart, but at the same time, not entirely on a level Kowalski apparently was at now. Â
He could only wonder, if Kowalski would be able to have give his heart in another way. Â Rico thought it was a longshot as Kowalski never expressed or gave hints of liking him in the ways he thought of. Â He sighed and might as well ask.
âUhâŠyou wanâ uhâŠtry new thingâŠâWalski?â He asked, hoping he would get the hint. Â
The sobbing stops. Because Kowalski needs a quiet moment to think. New thing? Try a new thing, thatâs what Rico asked. Rico? It takes Kowalski a moment to assimilate these informations. To try a new thing seems a logical solution to get over his pain. But will it really work, shortly after Doris broke up with him? And the question is, who else would let him try a new thing? It is the last question to himself, that makes him realize what Rico is hinting at. Thatâs not a byeffect from the mating-calls I played with the recorder back then, isnât itâŠ? No thatâs so long ago, I donât think itâs that⊠but he did behave weirdly since then occassionally⊠He shoves the blanket away and sits up now. But the question he was going to ask, seemed less awkward as now that he wants to say it out loud.
âJust⊠uh⊠just to make sure thereâs no⊠awkward misunderstanding. You⊠just asked meâŠâ He stops, not sure how to finish his sentence. Itâs the first time he hears Rico actually ask something like that and it has him at a loss of words now. One thing is sure though. Rico got his attention now.
âGo on date?â Rico finished for Kowalski, smiling and seeming hopeful at how Kowalski seemed more calm now that he asked. Â He knew he scored it this time, calming a friend down and to even go out with him.
âWe be mates nâstuff, heh.â
Rico felt a bit bummed that he couldnât see the new movie. Â He either liked or laughed at the story and especially liking the explosions usually seen in them. Â
Staying behind with a depressed Kowalski had him to try and seem enlightened by the idea of spending time with him. Â
âHugh..â  He sighed heavily, and walked over to Kowalski.  ââWalskiâŠyou uhâŠwant do kaboom nâstuff?â
The sobbing underneath the blanket stops for a short moment. Only to start again, between muffled words. Itâs hard to understand him between all the sobbing and being still curled up under the blanket.Â
âKaboom wonât fix my broken heart, Rico. My heart. Crushed, again. And againâŠ.â
âMnh..â Â Rico watched as Kowalski seemed to continue his endless crying.
Â He sighed and might as well ask.
âUh...you wanâ uh...try new thing...âWalski?â He asked, hoping he would get the hint. Â
