literally everything HAS BEEN political, that’s life. he just doesn’t like that he now has to acknowledge that because he turned up the heat so high that he no longer has the privilege of ignoring the fact that everything is political and he’s being forced to face it, like the days of saying “keep politics out of sports” is over and it’s partially over cause they’ve been ignoring politics for so long, and as America descends further into authoritarianism and flirts with fascism, nobody there gets to opt out, they are going to come face to face with an overtly political decision and they’re gonna have to stand by what they choose and be willing to back it up. Everything has always been political, they just have to face it now and actually get a backbone

and you can go on and on about how you’re friends with the women’s team, and you hang out with them and all that, but that makes it worse, you hanging out with them and being their friend makes it ten times worse that you were laughing at a joke at their expense. all you had to do was say sorry and say you shouldn’t have laughed and it actually wasn’t a funny joke at all, instead you just said you hang out with them and we don’t see what you see, which is like totally not the point, yeah we don’t see what you see but what we did see was you laughing at women who did exactly what you did, did it before you, did it better than you and did it more consistently.

and also with Hughes boys laughing at Trumps misogynistic joke, is gross on so many levels, they were laughing at the team they have friends on, a team they have praised multiple times and laughing at their mum and all the work she put in. They cared and worried more about impressing a pedo than their mum. Their mum was a standout on the US women’s team but never got to be an olympian because they didn’t HAVE a women’s Olympic hockey team. She missed out. Her sons got to live out her dream and then laughed at it.

that vid of everyone laughing at trump’s “joke” about having to also “invite the women” or he’d be impeached that the whole group laughed at is just replaying over and over in my head. that women’s hockey team is full of elite athletes who play the same sport as all of them (whilst getting paid practically nothing in comparison), and have won olympic gold twice in the last 3 games. ellen hughes is a former team usa player and a pioneer of women’s international hockey and is on the development staff for that very same women’s team who was just the butt of a joke in a locker room with two of her sons present. and yeah, i know, maybe it shouldn’t be surprising, but it’s still really fucking disappointing.
