Fake!Thancred in 2.3 VS. Real!Thancred in 3.1.
In case people have forgotten/didn't know in the first place:
This scene from 1.0 (Watch the whole thing here; for the record, this is an Echo flashback to events of the year 1562, 15 years before the plot of 2.0) involves Thancred doing the following things:
Cheating the children of then-Syndicate members out of a shitton of gil by beating them at ten hands in a row and nonchalantly shutting down their subsequent raging and death threats.
Accuses Niellefresne of orchestrating an 'accident,' setting a wild goobbue out onto townspeople during a parade, which injures several people and kills one; the dead man in question is named Warburton, and he leaves behind a daughter named Ascilia. (Who would later grow up to become the one and only Minfilia.)
Verbally tears the Syndicate a new one in the process.
And when Nielle walks out and says 'Do what you want with the money, give it to the brat for all I care,' he responds with 'Fuck you I'll do just that.'
For emphasis, Thancred sends a small fortune to a recently orphaned little Ala Mhigan girl he barely knows to pay for her father's funeral. (Though even that didn't quite cover all the expenses, about 1,500,000 gil altogether; the rest was paid for by the Order of Nald'thal when they bought Warburton's body but that's a story for another time.)
And not only that, he subtly points F'lhaminn in Ascilia's direction by letting her know that Warburton had died. By the next time we see them, she's already adopted Ascilia. So he indirectly saves her from subsisting as an impoverished refugee.
And then much later on, after some shit gets real, Thancred becomes good friends with Ascilia and even comes up with her new pseudonym and gives her her own dagger; by 2.0 he loyally works under her as a Scion, and takes it upon himself to keep her safe. (Fun fact: if you talk to Thancred in 2.2 after Leviathan is summoned, he says, "Though the mission ended in failure, I take solace in the knowledge that Minfilia is unharmed.")
So I was watching an LP of 1.0, and the player's NPC party member, or 'Path Companion,' (who in this case happens to be an impressively perverted Miqo'te) has this to say about Thancred. They totally boned. Who's got no game again?
